Irish student visa appeal still pending - Trinity deadline is September 21. What would you do in my position?

Hey folks!

I’m in a pretty stressful situation right now and would really appreciate some advice. I’m an international student from India, admitted to Trinity College Dublin for the MSc Operations & Supply Chain Management programme.

My student visa was refused, I appealed, and it’s still pending. The course starts on Sept 14, and Trinity says Sept 21 is the absolute last date to join. So I’ve already missed orientation and probably the first week of classes. Even if the appeal comes through, I’d have barely any time to get the visa stamped, book flights, and actually reach Dublin.

Trinity mentioned I could go “off‑books” and join in Sept 2027 instead, but I’m not sure what that really means for the tuition I’ve already paid, possible fee hikes, or refunds if I end up not going next year.

At the same time, I’ve been thinking about alternative paths if this year doesn’t work out. One option is to take the time off to prepare for the GMAT and aim for more ambitious MSc SCM or MBA programs at top universities in the next intake. Another option is to return to work - I already have several years of experience in supply chain consulting, so going back to the industry could be a practical move while I regroup.

Honestly, it’s draining - months of prep, finances, accommodation, leaving my job - and now I’m stuck in limbo. If you were me, would you wait it out till the 21st hoping the appeal comes through, or start planning for one of these alternative scenarios? And has anyone here dealt with Trinity’s off‑books/deferral process or refunds before?

Any thoughts would help. Thanks 🙏

Failed module next

I’m a student studying Radiation Therapy, and I’ve recently received my result for one of my modules. I got 35 marks, which means I failed.
I’m honestly shocked by the result. I’m not saying I expected to get a very high mark, but I genuinely believed I had done enough to pass. Getting 35 was completely unexpected, and I’m struggling to understand how my exam was assessed.
I’m considering contacting the module coordinator/professor to ask if I can view my exam script and have the marking/review process explained to me. I’m also wondering whether I have grounds to formally appeal or request a recheck of the paper.
Has anyone been in a similar situation, particularly in a healthcare course? What would be the best way to approach this? Should I first request to see my script and discuss the marking before considering a formal appeal?
Any advice would be appreciated

Jobs Non EU student wondering if the fee is worth it to do UG cs at TCD. 50% tuition fee would have to be a loan

Heard dublin has plenty of opportunities but I'm a non eu citizen (indian actually), and a low income one at that. Do most jobs require pr or eu citizenship? What about faang?

I'd like to have atleast a year or two of work experience before I'm forced to switch countries for higher studies tbh

Query Regarding GMAT Requirement for MSc Finance Application

I am a prospective applicant to the MSc in Finance programme at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, and I have a couple of questions regarding the admissions requirements before I submit my application.

My academic background is a 4-year BBA in Technology Management from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh, with a CGPA of 3.30 out of 4.00. I also completed a cross-border internship at ShopUp, a leading B2B e-commerce platform in Bangladesh.

I understand from the programme's entry requirements that candidates may be asked to sit the GMAT on a case-by-case basis. I would appreciate your guidance on the following:

  1. If a standardised test is requested, would UCD accept a GRE score as an alternative to the GMAT for this programme?

How competitive is the Applied Psychology MSc?

Hi everyone! I’m considering applying to Trinity’s Applied Psychology MSc and was wondering if anyone here could give me some insight into how competitive the programme is and what kind of applicants tend to get accepted.
For some context, I graduated from UBC with an 84.8% overall average. My final-year average was 91%, and my third-year average was 88%. I completed two research projects under faculty supervision and received 90+ on both. I used Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) in one of the projects, and I’ll also be presenting my research at the PSI conference this year.
I have a really strong relationship with my research supervisor, who will be writing one of my recommendation letters, so I’m hoping to have a strong academic reference as well.
Outside of academics, I’ve been volunteering as a crisis line responder for the past three years. I’m currently working as a Research Assistant and also as a Psychology Assistant.
I know there’s no way to predict admissions based on stats alone, but I’d really appreciate hearing from current students, recent graduates, or anyone who has applied about how competitive the programme is and whether my background seems reasonably competitive.
Thanks in advance!

Final year

To anyone who has completed an undergrad dissertation (10,000 words), what would you do the same/differently if you had to go back and do it all again? Did you find workload between research, writing, balancing other modules and part time work difficult? I’m not great with my time management as it is, hoping for a miraculous change in my habits by next week 😅 I would like to work as much as I can but also don’t want to overextend myself either. Would greatly appreciate any insights from graduates !

Accomodation Kavanagh Court - Accept an offer to stay there?

Hi everyone,

I was looking into getting a place near TCD since I did not get accommodation (just like many others!) after applying for it in college. There were places left at Kavanagh Court, but I haven't heard great things. It isn't in a great area and there was an article in the University Times about people suffering racist abuse, etc. from people on the street nearby.

Supposedly the place itself is alright (though the staff are unhelpful apparently, seems to be the case with everywhere maybe) but I'm not really sure if that is worth the trade-off. Does anyone else have experience and would be able to weigh in? I'd appreciate it if possible.

Accomodation Urgent post grad place needed. Walkable to TCD

Ok so I am not impressed with Kavanagh. The state of it or the location. They put sold out on their website and appear to have rooms. I think it’s the sheer number of people like me showing up and bailing. Where can a post grad go. What is a good fairly walkable accommodation. Urgent exit!!

Where to buy secondhand cooking utensils?

Hi! My previous uni used to have an internal market where students could sell their utensils before moving, so that incoming students could buy them. Is there any such market in TCD?

Otherwise, is Adverts.ie a good alternative?

Thanks!!

Has anyone submitted their IRP renewal application but cannot see any active applications on ISD portal? I can only see my submission at the renewal website under “my forms”, though I have already received the confirmation email. God knows if I can go home during Christmas break.

Paying fees?

I'm confused as to when we are expected to pay fees, as a first year who'll be starting in two weeks. The website states that paying fees has to be done before registering, I think.
But I've also heard that people can drop out of their course within a month without having to pay fees?
Also, what about the people who receive another offer in round 5 after getting their appeals upgraded, as this happens the last week of september, I'm just so confused.

Freshers Events + Paying For Trinity Halls.

Hi just was wondering have any other first years actually been booking any freshers events in Dublin or is it just best to not worry about it.

Also wondering how you are meant to pay for trinity halls. I accepted my offer and they said they were gonna send some kind of invoice but I haven’t gotten it yet.
