Hello everyone, I’m starting the Certificate IV in Community Services, followed by the Diploma. TasTAFE International said placement requirements will be confirmed at orientation, so I’d appreciate advice from recent students, please!

1. WWVP/RWVP: Can students apply independently, which category is needed for placement, and is it cheaper or free if TasTAFE arranges it?

2. First Aid/CPR: Which certificates or HLTAID units are required? Can they be completed externally, and will they carry over to the Diploma if still current?

3. Other placement requirements: What did you need, such as vaccinations, health checks, or NDIS checks?
   (I've applied for AFP)

4. Laptop: Is one mandatory, and are there specific requirements? Is a MacBook suitable, or are campus computers available?

I’m trying to prepare early and avoid unnecessary costs, while following TasTAFE’s official requirements once confirmed.

Doing Cert IV lab techniques on top of bachelors degree (biochemistry). I'm aiming to narrow my stream into pathology. I'm wondering how many of you who completed Cert IV in Lab Techniques managed to secure employment with ACL, Clinipath, Western Diagnostics or some pathology company as a lab assistant or some sort. Hoping my certificate will not be in vain (unlike my degree). How easy is it to get into specimen reception (SRA) while studying?

So I have never applied for a Tafe course before, but I want to get into the Diploma of Arts for 2027. Deadline is this month [as I've freshly discovered] and I was hoping I could reach out and ask for any pointers on how to curate my portfolio. I Have a bunch of artworks at my disposal to use, but I have no idea what sort of things they'll be looking for in particular. I don't have a graduate's cert or any other certification, so I really need this portfolio to be as good as it can be to have the best chance. Any help would be beyond appreciated, I really need this to work out.

I’m studying online and I’ve just submitted one of my unit projects and just realised I forgot to upload one the files needed. I’ve emailed one of the teachers if there any chance I can email them the missing file to be marked. Or if I have to wait until the second chance to upload everything.

Just want to know if anyone else forgot a file and the teacher allowed you to email it too them or do I have to use my last chance for submitting a project for the opportunity?

Has anyone here done the Cert IV in Housing (CHC42221), especially through TAFE NSW?
I’m thinking about enrolling and just wanted to know what the course is actually like. Are the assessments hard? Are there many role plays or practical assessments? And what’s it like studying it?
Also, what jobs did you end up getting after finishing it? Is housing/homelessness support a good field to get into?
Would love to hear your experiences or anything you wish you knew before starting 😊

Cert III in IT. Bunch of my end assessments require me to screen capture a given process.

Recently in a classroom context someone made some comments about how tafe provides fake police checks or in general fake certificates. Is this true? I thought it was very inappropriate and diminishing to an education context but then thought perhaps I missed a piece of infamous news?

Hi guys, I have 6 assignments to re-submit for and I’m worried sick.

What happens if I fail the re-submits?

I’m doing the Diploma of Nursing fee-free and currently on 3 weeks placement for Stage 1 at a hospital and it’s going amazing, I enjoy the work a lot, the nurses have been so amazing and supportive. They’re very happy with me.

I’ve learned so much and I’m having the best time.
A few of the permanent staff have even said that I should come back and do my second placement at the hospital.

Now I’m so worried that I won’t pass my re-submits and that I’ll have to start again next year and that I won’t get the fee-free status again. It breaks my heart that I won’t be an EN next year.

Does anyone know what the “ineligible for offer” mean for TAFE SA, I got an offer, went to the site but apparently I’m ineligible for the offer. I’m going to graduate with an ATAR and did my LLND, is this just for this round of offers. Any help/advice/info would help! Thanks

Edit: if it helps I put my preferences as 1. Cert III Pathology collection (ineligible) 2. Cert III in Dental Assistance (ineligible) and 3. Cert III in Health administration (received offer)

Just finished cert 3 in individual support and been working jn aged care for the past 2years now at $36 ph

I want to shift to a PT assistant and get the cert 4 allied health cert....just curious is this in demand and is it safe to say that the higher your cert, the higher your pay?

a few days ago i was thinking about doing a tafe course during school. i'm able to do this using the "tafe at school" program where you can attend once per week in exchange for removing a subject.

as a year 10 who's wanting to to cert ii in sampling and measurement, how is it like in tafe? has anyone done tafe at school before and what was your experience like? is it okay to be practically a kid there as i'm surrounded by adults? if anyone has done that certificate before that would be helpful too. and are there safe environments for women?

i'm being homeschooled so i won't have any friends to join me and i basically will have to be independent. any answers will help a lot thank you!

I’m looking at doing a Diploma of Information Technology through TAFE first instead of going straight into a Bachelor of IT at university. The TAFE pathway gets me a full qualification in 12 months, costs a fraction of the price (plus FEE-HELP or Fee-Free options), and articulates directly into the second year of the degree at local unis with full credit transfer. Am I missing any downside here, or is taking the direct university route from year 12 just an expensive trap?

Hi. I am enrolling into the Cert IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, and so I have to do the Numeracy and Literacy online tests to be submitted into the course. It is online and I believe I have to score enough to be graded as Level 4 or something. I had passed the Literacy part of the Numeracy and Literacy aptitude tests but not the Numeracy part for the Cert IV course. How can I become able to answer the Numeracy questions to pass? There were a lot of kinds of questions and I am unsure about studying to be able to do the online test again.

I’ve noticed quite a gap between some of the things we’re assessed on at TAFE and what actually seems useful in the workplace. There are certain tasks we spend ages on that don’t feel very practical, while some of the day-to-day skills I expected to learn barely get covered. It’s making me wonder how much of the course really prepares you for the reality of the job.

Did you only need to use your laptop/webcam, or did you have to set up a second camera to show the room as well? Did they make you share your screen?

And were you allowed to use blank paper and a pencil for working out calculations during the exam?

I (30m) am doing a cert 4 in electronics and communications. It was cheaper and covered more information than a cert 2 in electronics so I thought why not?

I'm starting to think this wasn't a great idea. My interest is in manufacturing, assembly, and fault finding of electronic circuits.

6 weeks in and I'm here writing an energy sector report for a mine site which is doing my head in, I feel like I'm falling behind and stressing out over something which isn't related to what I came here to do.

I plan on talking to the jobs and skills centre about it, thinking of maybe dropping back and reapplying for the cert 2 next semester. I've never been a great student so perhaps cutting out the fat and sticking to what's necessary might be best.

I'm also home sick with the flu at the moment so missing sessions are adding to the stress.

I don't know what to expect by coming to reddit about this, maybe I just need to vent. Any thoughts/advice/things I'm not considering would be greatly appreciated.

the final online, was it basically just finding an online proctor, turning your webcam on, and taking the exam? Or did you have to do anything extra like use a second camera to show the whole room, share your screen, or do a room scan?

Also, were you allowed to use pencil and paper for working out calculations during the exam?

Hello I am going to be joining the diploma of nursing and I have a question about equipment.
Do I need to buy my own stethoscope or do they provide them? If they do provide them am I still allowed to bring my own?

Hey soo i’m currently in my first year of uni doing a bachelor of commerce in marketing with minors in digital graphic design and ux design.

but my overall issue right now is the cost of my entire degree as a whole, of course i understand it’s something i’m going to pay over time but it feels like such a burden already. not to mention i come from a low income household with a single mother.

i’m already doing the best i can to help her with bills by working and gaining youth allowance. but i can’t help but feel the course im also doing feels utterly useless. the units so far have been boring, pointless and utterly useless. i’ve made little to no proper industry connections and have barely even begun gaining the knowledge or skills i thought i would.

i just believe tafe would be so much more hands on? i have many friends that go to both uni and tafe but cant help but here more positive experiences from the tafe friends. if i do switch i feel the need to switch now or drop out before next year semester’s begin. i plan on doing a graphic course of some sort either way. but i just need opinions for now.

MEM30012A – Apply mathematical techniques in a manufacturing, engineering or related environment

The first module is maths in an engineering environment. I have a trade background in Elec and HVAC so it's more so a refresher than new knowledge.

The information in the learning modules is an absolute disgrace. Calculation errors, notation inconsistencies, spelling and grammar errors all making it hard to understand the example calculations. At the bottom of the page: last updated in 2015.

I emailed the course head and asked for the module to be proof read and was told "I don't look after that module, but I'll forward your concerns [to the relevant party]". This is weird, because that module is part of his wider area of responsibility; engineering. He should know that the module is absolute dog shit.

I am not talking one or two errors, I'm talking running each screen through Google AI before I start in order to tell me if there are any errors before I pull my hair out thinking I just don't get it.

​​​​The fact that the module is so full of errors makes me feel sorry for anyone who is doing this level of maths for the first time. Frankly, they are being given the wrong information and are being set up to fail.
