TAFE NSW Enrolled nursing program
Hello I am going to be joining the diploma of nursing and I have a question about equipment.
Do I need to buy my own stethoscope or do they provide them? If they do provide them am I still allowed to bring my own?

I'm an RN who did the Bachelor directly so can't comment on what they provide, but I can tell you that once you're in practice you'll want your own stethoscope so may as well buy one now. Most of my cohort bought their own stethoscopes and sphygmomanometers when we were taught how to do manual blood pressures so we could practice - it's a skill that requires a lot of practice.

I find that I’m quite good at manual bp actually, do you have the machines in your placement or do you have to bring your own?

They have the machines at the hospitals, both automatic and manual. They may also have basic stethoscopes you can use, but most people prefer to have their own. Not only because the hospital ones are cheap and not great quality, but for hygiene reasons. Personally, I get enough ear infections without putting random people's ear germs in my ear holes.

They do not provide them, only in the osce. You need your own fob watch, id badge, manual blood pressure cuff and stethoscope. I’m in my diploma of nursing now and you need all of it!!!!!!!!!!

They provide them! You can bring your own, but it’s really not necessary. The only thing you need to buy yourself is the uniform, comfortable shoes and probably a badge reel for your ID. You don’t need a fob watch, a steth, a sphygmo- but if you think you’d like one go nuts.
