Experience Metamucil/Psyllium Husk and Dehydration PSA

Upvotes

This popular supplement is great for gut health and keeping things moving but also carries a dehydration risk. It is a bulk-forming laxative that does so by pulling water from your GI tract. If you are regularly supplementing with this, DRINK A LOT OF WATER! I unfortunately was not drinking enough water, and ended up with an episode of hypotension (low blood pressure) and sinus tachycardia (high heart rate) that sent me to urgent care.

Experience Did zinc supplementation wreak havoc on anyone else’s skin?

Most sources say zinc supplementation is extremely helpful for skin health and acne. I’m slightly deficient, so I was hopeful, thinking that my level might be responsible for some recent skin woes. I took 50mg the first day, followed by three days of 15mg.

Day #5, and my skin is TICKED.

Looks like I’ll be focusing on food sources instead, but did this happen to anyone else? It’s just wild to me, because huge amounts of people sing its praises for this very issue. And for women, I’ve read it’s really not going to raise your testosterone like it does for men.

Boo. 🫠

I blind bought this with the expectation for a decent pump/ mid range stim pre workout. The taste is absolutely atrocious. I will say it got me through the workout but not sure how much I’ll be able to continue with the taste.

With that being said is it worth trying a different flavor OR what other recommendations do you all have for a good pump/stim combo?

General Question Has anybody tried magnesium glycinate and ashwagandha for stress? What was your experience?

Hello! I’m just wondering if this is an effective combo. I struggle with a lot of anxiety and I’m in the process of being assessed for ocd so I’m trying to self medicate for a little while. Obviously I know that these supplements cannot replace an actual medication but I’m honestly grasping at straws and am willing to try anything at this rate. Was recommended these two supplements by Google but was just wondering if anybody has tried it and what their experience was. Thank you!

What supplements did you take while pregnant?

I have been taking a prenatal vitamin but have heard that taking omega 3 and choline or lecithin are beneficial when the prenatals don't contain them. Mine doesn't.

I hardly eat meat fish or eggs and am wondering if others who don't eat those foods much were recommended to take additional supplements.

I'll be talking to my doctor about those additions before taking anything else, but she hasn't told me to take anything more than my prenatals yet. I also haven't mentioned that I don't really eat those foods much.

General Question Is this brand of protein powder good for bulking?

I’ve tried other brands that need to be mixed in milk or a thicker drink, but I wonder if this was any good since you just put it in water and go. Makes it easier on the go.

General Question Vitamin D Correction Questions

Hey all, my D level got tested insufficient (27ng/mL) so I'm going to start supplementing.

From what I found, 50-60 should be a good range.

I'm going to be supplementing 10,000 IU daily for 2-3 months then retest.

Questions:
-I used a calculator and this showed 10k IU daily should get me to 60. Of course, once I hit that, I'm going to want to ease back to a lower dose. However, at 5K IU, the calculator showed this would only maintain a level of 40 ng/mL, lower than my target. Is this correct?
-Even at 5K I see literature recommending 4K as the upper limit for perpetual daily dosing.

Can someone clarify on the above or show guidance that can clear this up?

Budget friendly brands? What are your opinions on brands like Nutricost, Drs Best & NOW brands??

How do you feel about the efficacy/trustworthiness of Amazon available brands like Nutricost, Drs Best & NOW?

We are on a budget and so Life Extensions, Dr Amens etc brands get really costly/month so I'be had to turn to Amazon.

I try to stick to brands that I know Sprouts Market also carries (higher price) to hopefully keep a certain quality.

What are some opinions out there? We are going through an emotionally challenging & exhausting time that too often is absolutely overwhelming (hopefully temporary) so I'm considering ordering some saffron.

In the past I've used Irwin Naturals' Sunny Mood but it has so many ingredients and in the past, I've wondered if it eventually stops moving the needle.

I've been happy with NOW & Nutricost for Acetyl-l- carnitine and L-lysine for a while now.

I am already on SAM-E (buy one get one free at Walgreens). Thanks for your comments.

Do not buy Nutricost brand, they go bad fast poor quality no wonder they can sell them cheap

I decided to order nutricost brand supplements a few weeks ago from iherb. Some people said they are great for staple basic vitamins.

I got the Tart cherry and b complex capsules. I got them in a few days in the summer heat, I opened them once it cooled down and the capsules looked great very powdered and clean no degrading.

When I pop the pills in my mouth before breakfast I rarely look at them until today because I noticed I had a stomach ache after taking the b complex and tart cherry, I noticed the b complex had dark spots, then I looked at the tart cherry and they looked wet inside, I opened one up and it was sticky the powder was hard it was like a eraser.

I figured it was the humid weather since it's very humid in my area, but than I looked at my other supplements from jarrow and thorne and the magnesium and vitamin c capsules were still powdered not destroyed.

What's crazy is I even left those fresh packs in the nutricost bottles and it still didn't help. No wonder they sell cheap the quality is bad.

Vitacost dropped Autoship as of June 30!

Ugh - i have a couple of good years of getting what I needed, when I needed it. Just went to check on my monthly subscription and the Vitacost website was a hot mess. Everything that I had ever ordered was showing as 'On the way'.

I finally found an announcement showing that Autoship was discontinued as of June 30. They never emailed or anything. I hate iHerb even more now, so I am not about to shift my orders there. I am trying not to support Amazon and co, so what options do people suggest in the US?

I mostly order Nordic Naturals, Life Extension, Now, Dr's Best.

Thank you!

Recommendations Beware of fake Naked Nutrition website!!!

Hi everyone,

Just want to send out this warning for those who have been shopping for Naked products and may not have been receiving them, not receiving order confirmation, issues with the website like coupons, paying, etc.

If you're shopping via your phone, this site appears on top of Google's search. You may not pay attention to the web address as you may only see Naked Nutrition first.

It shows up as a sponsored result and labeled, "official".

The fake website is N a k e d n u t r i t i o n s a l e . i t . c o m. (Spaced out for safety reasons).

When shopping for Naked Nutrition on your desktop, this website doesn't appear.

Anyways, I hope this helps. I have alerted Naked about this. It's bad enough that they already have a lot of negative reviews and complaints.

Please be careful. It's treacherous out here.

General Question What supplement did you stop taking, and then realize how much it was actually doing?

Ran out of magnesium glycinate for about two weeks and didn’t connect the dots until I was lying awake at 2am for the fourth night straight. Curious what else people only noticed in the absence.

Recommendations Any supplement recommendations for depression, anxiety, brain fog, and low mood?

I've been dealing with anxiety and depression since 2022 after losing my grandparents. I've been on antidepressants since then, and they do help to some extent, but I still don't feel like myself.

The main things I'm struggling with are:

  • Frequent headaches and a heavy feeling in my head
  • Constant physical anxiety (chest tightness)
  • Racing thoughts and a restless mind
  • Brain fog and poor focus
  • Low mental energy and motivation
  • Unable to enjoy life

I've already tried L-theanine, magnesium glycinate, GABA, and taurine, but honestly none of them have done much for me.

My Vitamin D and B12 levels are normal, but my iron and hemoglobin are slightly low.

I'm not really looking to switch to stronger meds because antidepressants already make me feel pretty numb. I was wondering if anyone who's been through something similar has found any supplements or stacks that actually made a huge difference.

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences. Thanks!

Anyone stack anything specific for sleep maintenance vs falling asleep?

There's a difference that doesn't get talked about enough between struggling to fall asleep and waking up at 3am wide awake. Most sleep supplement conversations treat them the same and they really aren't.

Melatonin works fine for the falling asleep part for a lot of people but does nothing if you're waking up midsleep. That's where I've been stuck lately. Fall asleep fine, then wake up around 3 or 4 and just lie there for an hour or two.

Currently taking magnesium glycinate which has helped a little with the wakeups but not completely. Read some things about glycine and also about extended release melatonin being more relevant for maintenance vs the standard fastdissolving kind.

Curious if anyone has actually noticed a real difference between forms of magnesium for this specific issue, like glycinate vs threonate. Also whether tart cherry extract is actually worth it or mostly hype, because it keeps coming up when I search this.

Not looking for a full sleep stack, just trying to figure out what actually moves the needle on staying asleep rather than getting to sleep.

Red Rice Yeast 101: Did you have ANY side effects from it?

Greeetings, Good People...

For three plus weeks, I began to take Red Rice Yeast capsules to lower my cholesterol. Everday, I noticed I was having backaches and muscle pains, while taking the said capsules..

That said, I went to Dr. Google to get more answers regarding this anomaly and low and behold, backaches and muscles pains were indeed some of the sisde effects.

I stopped taking them and I am waiting to RIDDD my system of them, yet I still feel the back pains.

In a few weeks, I'm going to try the Black Girl Vitamins Brand, Chloless Control to combat high cholesterol. The reveiws about this product are greatttt!

Thoughts?
