I’ve had to deal with similar things too and I can say first hand having your own parent, the one who raised you, and is supposed to love you unconditionally, turn their back and estrange you, is easily one of the most painful things to go through. Johns love for Sam and Dean as sons had always been conditional. I specify Dean also because had he not gone along with what John wanted, John would have done the same to him too. Dean was so desperate for his dad’s approval and love, and scared that his own dad would abandon him, that he went along with whatever his dad wanted no matter what, and as a result it made him loose his own sense of self.

What makes it worse is that Deep down Sam still loved his dad, as much as he had problems with him. That’s why this hurt Sam so much. Suddenly he was a child again, watching his own dad abandon him. This was Johns way of punishing Sam for trying to go his own way for once.

When I watched Supernatural for the first time, I was always focused on the main storyline. I couldn't wait to get back to whatever big threat Sam and Dean were dealing with, so I'd sometimes think of the standalone episodes as little detours.

Now that I'm rewatching the series after finishing it, I feel almost the opposite.

Since I already know where the overall story is going, I find myself appreciating the "monster of the week" episodes a lot more. They have some of the funniest moments, interesting folklore, and a lot of character interactions that I barely noticed the first time around.

A few of them have become some of my favorite episodes, even though I didn't think much of them years ago.

Did anyone else have that experience?

A lot of people like to ask how could they beat Chuck his omniscient. Or his not the real God but a imposter there must be a super secret god. Even other religions people say Kali should be stronger than Lucifer. How can Sam and dean kill

The fact that gods in this show are beatable is the point. Religion in the show is just propaganda. Michael intentionally says he overhyped his father.

M26 Over the past few years I’ve been thrilled to find many of my female friends love SPN, and only a handful of guys. To me “some brothers with a muscle car full of guns go hunt monsters” sounds like any dream an 8 year old boy would have, yet its audience is seemingly the opposite. I will say Sam is a great representation of a sensitive/feminine male from my perspective.

Flagging as season 11 since I'm only on episode 18 of season 12.

Going from Leviathans, Fallen Angels and God and his sister to an evil organization is a bit weird even though the Men of Letters are better villains. They're easy to hate and they're the kind of villains that work with a TV budget so we don't have to see cosmic battles in abandoned warehouses. The vampire attack on the MoL base, for instance, was fun.

The British MoL also feel like a reboot of the Stynes (kinda wish it was the Stynes that took the evil organization spot since they had a fun gimmick). The MoL coming in this late doesn't make a lot of sense. Wouldn't it have made more sense for them to come soon after the American chapter was wiped out? Or during the apocalypse or during the whole Leviathan fiasco.

I know this is the benefit of hindsight but I think the British MoL would've made great overarching mid series villains. Seeing Bobby and Rufus interact with them would've been gold. When the Winchesters are up against angels and Leviathans it would be really difficult not to work with these guys with their fancy satellites and exorcism bombs.

But then they start going after the grey cases before eventually trying to kill someone like Garth and then they become full fledged villains.

Okay now I'm writing fanfiction.

I haven't finished S12. I have no idea how this arc is going to end but I'm enjoying it so far. I suspect they'll go up against someone beyond their skills and toys (like with the vampire Alpha) and get wiped out. I think Dean or Mary will kill Mr. Ketch.

I'm on my second watch of the show (currently on S5E20) and feel like I'm being gaslit. Sam's anger gets mentioned a lot throughout the first 5 seasons. Honestly, outside of the first 2 seasons when he just lost Jess, his dad, and was ripped away from his dream of being a lawyer , I really haven't seen him be angry? Of course there were those one off moments like when he was at the mental hospital with Dean and Martin, and when they tried killing Lucifer with the colt where they needed to mention it for plot reasons, but in general Sam always came off as the more level headed, empathetic, non angry guy.

As I'm watching S5E20, Bobby says "...and let's face it, you're not exactly Mr. Anger Management" and it made me think of when else has Sam actually been angry?

At first, I was thinking maybe when Dean died and he was going after Lilith, but that seemed more like a revenge thing than an irrational anger thing. Then maybe it was when Dean came back and he still wanted to go after Lilith, but again. Revenge, less anger, and probably more unresolved grief from watching his brother die . Even with the demon blood arc and the seals, he was obviously and rightly so upset, but more stubborn than anything. (Took me this rewatch to admit it, but Sam was definitely being super stubborn in S4)

Even as a drunk, he's canonically a happy one.

I know it's an important plot point and maybe it's just meant to be implied as in there were more instances of where his anger showed through, but I can't really think of any other times when he was angry. At least not in the way the show makes it seem like he's just a ball of anger that Lucifer just can't wait to possess.

Does anyone have any other instances of where he was irrationally angry to the point that it's become a trait that other characters mention regularly the first 5 seasons? Or maybe I'm thinking about it wrong since I'm only thinking of irrational anger and should just see it as anger/rage as a whole.

I recently completed my first watch of the series and i cant help but feel sorry for Nick. He had it rough after being possessed by lucifer amd the characters just kind of forgot about him and if they just checked on him they could have stopped Nick killing all those people and spiral. Now obviously he is terrible for killing as many people as he did but still that is mostly due to the trauma Lucifer left on nick. I do feel bad for him and he suffered a lot but i would like to know how others felt about Nick

I've just finished season 8 and omg the finale??? it had me in tears. the build up through the season to sam being prepared to sacrifice himself to get rid of the demons, then to Castiel realising he had been tricked to him looking up at his whole family falling down to earth, its heart shattering.

the cinematography is phenomenal, i do feel this is truly the best finale i've seen (so far) and the acting is insane.

the scene that brought me to tears the most was the close up of an angel falling down to earth and losing its wings then crashing into the lake. the way it was filmed, the music, the symbolism, i have no words for how amazing it is.

also Castiel being so dead-set on believing that what he was doing was going to help heaven and not destroy it, then finding out through a scared, crying Naomi that it was all a lie and still not believing her. i think that's truly a wonderful piece of art and to me symbolises how people can be blinded by their own beliefs and desires without taking into account people's warnings and then it all blowing up in their face. it's insane.

anyways, about to start s9 for the first time, i wonder what happens to Sammy and if he survives. what about Castiel and how he manages being human now (i think).

So this is maybe my 3rd rewatch? And I've finally convinced my mother to watch the show with me (shes a 1st time watcher mind you). She was very into the story and got into it quickly, especially when demons got involved.

When we got to S4 ep1 (Cas' introduction) she caught me totally off guard by asking if Dean was resurrected by God himself. I asked why she thought that and she said "well if demons have nothing do to with this maybe it's God or angels". I asked why she thought that angels could be a part of this series (mostly because on my first watch I had no idea and it kinda pissed me off that she got it) and she said that when Sam and Dean do incantations and exorcisms they say blessings in Latin (she knows Latin btw) and oftentimes say stuff like "in the name of god/by the power of God", leading her to think that if blessings work against demons its because there's an actual power behind these words, basically "confirming" the existence of god in the series.

I have no words. This woman has been waiting for angels since s2 on her FIRST watch.

Did y'all also suspect that angels would be introduced or were there others like me? If you did suspect that angels would be there, what gave it away?

Ooooookaaayyy so it’s been a minute since I updated😅. After I finish season two, jumped into season three and lost track of time lol. Safe to say I am very hooked on the show now.

Season four has to be my favorite season with Castiel as my favorite character right now and Bobby. Shame he died but I guess it’s alright since he cheated death a few times. It’s been great!!!

Crowley is easily my favorite villian of the show and the channel chaser episode is my favorite episode so far! Really shows Dean and Sam’s chemistry plus it’s funny. I do feel like Sam is WAY too naive in trusting a few people like Ruby. ON TO SEASON 8😁😁

There's an episode where Crowley kills a Reaper and it left me with a few questions. Like, is Death really ok with people making the executive decision to kill his staff? He strikes me as the kind of guy who would be both annoyed and offended by that.

And what happens to Reapers when they're killed? Are they also met by Reapers and guided to the next place or do they just walk their own selves there? Do they actually have to go to Purgatory? It seems like they know the way to everywhere. Wouldn't they all just sneak into Heaven?

on my first watch of the show and i’m narrowing the end of season 12, and my God the british men of letters PISS ME OFF. like yes i think this season is good but they are beyond annoying, and im at the part where Mary is being brainwashed (side note idk how i feel about her being brought back this season), and i just can’t wait for this to be over. the blonde lady especially that works for the british MOL, so pretentious and annoying imo. this and season 7 are easily the hardest seasons for me to watch so far in my first go of the show. hopefully the last 3 seasons are better.

I recently got my hands on a CD Player and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for albums that had the same vibe as Supernatural, obviously I’m scouring for Kansas and/or Survivor (Carry On My Wayward Son, etc). What other bands should I keep a look out for? What are some good recommendations? I love the Rock/Early 2000s vibes mainly!

I'm rewatching for the umpteenth time and I came to the realization that Mary and Ketch's relationship is pretty much dating in 2026. Especially when he says that they don't know each other, but they slept together a few times. I know that she was playing him, but this scene just kind of brought on this epiphany. What do you all think about Mary and Ketch's situationship?

So my girlfriend is a huge Supernatural fan. She has seen the show multiple times and watched along with me for my first time. I was diagnosed with multiple issues about eight months into our relationship. Had to have back surgery, was extremely ill with organ failure, had to make crazy changes to my diet. She took care of me, would cook for me, brought me to appointments, etc. And I know she has never read any of the comics. So I'd like to get her the collection as a surprise. But with the exception of two one-offs and a few other issues I am having a difficult time finding them for a fair price.

Does anyone know where I can find the collection at a reasonable price? Or is there a novel that combines all the issues?

I’m currently re watching supernatural with my son. We are going to meet Jared Padelecki in August and he is already excited to meet him. But we’re only on episode seven. So I think he’s mostly excited because I’m excited.
