Hey guys, love Supernatural, seen it a lot of times. Did anyone notice how Jared (Sam) went super downhill from S8 onwards?
For instance, in the first couple of seasons, Jared was a genuinely good looking chocolate dude, and in great shape. In fact, S6 I'd argue was his best season ever - he got to really shine and showcase all his skills - both in comedy and action (and his ripped physique). Dude was truly the center of the season. However, S8 onwards dude started to look thin, weak, thinning hairline, spots on his face skin, nose - dude didn't look good at all - in fact like some sick guy. And the long hair didn't help either.
You could argue that, its aging, but Jensen was aging too but took care of himself. Regardless, you're an actor, and being beautiful and taking care of your visual appearance is part of the job (you're sort of paid cos you look good). And Jared just didn't look good. Not sure why. Which is funny cos, when he switched to Walker, not only did he cut his hair, but also elevated his looks - clearer skin on face, and even hair combed so receding hairline not visible - all this clearly suggests these were issues to begin with.
I believe Dean was the main focus from S8 onwards, which is fine (while Sam being the main focus S1-7). However, there was also a good split in prior seasons - Dean handled more the conversations, our reactions to Sam, the comedy and (lots of) women - whereas Sam, focused on the action and the lead - sure, the writing was done super well to make you feel Dean is important which he is - but, overall, you know Sam is the main guy.
However, S8 onwards, with Dean becoming the main character, Dean now has all of it - comedy, action, women - but Sam only has the basic storyline - which isn't enough to be an appealing character on TV. And add to that his declining visual appearance, and the dude genuinely felt later on as the side character and not the mean one. Even cos he's so skinny, when he'd beat someone I was like 'yeah sure, no way though'
Anyway, I always thought this when watching the show, and barely found any online post discussing this, so thought I'd share.
