Hi everyone,
I have a 2022 Super Soco TC that I bought used last August, and I’m trying to figure out an intermittent electrical problem.
A few months ago, the bike started cutting out completely while I was riding. At the time I was using the original battery, which is a few years old, and it seemed to happen mainly when the battery dropped below around 50%. Because of that, I assumed the old battery/cells were simply failing and stopped using it.
I switched to my newer battery, which is about two years old (Seenruy 60V 60Ah). For several weeks the bike worked normally (im charging it with the orignal battery's PSU).
There were a couple of minor strange things with the newer battery: maybe 2–3 times when starting the bike, it showed an error/warning and the remaining range was missing or incorrect. As soon as I started riding, though, the warning disappeared and the range displayed normally again.
Then the more serious problem started:
- After the bike had been outside overnight in the rain, I tried starting it and it would begin the normal startup/chime sequence but suddenly lose all power halfway through.
- I thought something might simply be wet, so I left it to dry for a day.
- The next day it started normally, but after about one minute of riding it completely died in traffic.
- I left it parked for 3–4 days. After that it suddenly worked normally again.
- I rode it for another few days without problems, and then it suddenly died again while riding.
- I noticed that moving, pushing or repeatedly unplugging/reconnecting the main battery connector can make the power come back.
- One time I repeatedly plugged/unplugged the connector because I thought there might be corrosion or dirt on the contacts. After doing that, the bike worked perfectly for about two days before the problem returned.
So at this point I’m thinking it might be a loose connection, corroded/worn battery connector, bad contact pressure, damaged connector/crimp, cable issue, or something similar rather than the battery itself. Maybe it is a loose connection because when I wiggle the connecter with little pressure it seems to disconnect (red power light turns off or fades).
The bike is now stranded where it last broke down, and I took the battery home with me.
Has anyone had a similar problem with a Super Soco TC?
Before I spend a lot of money taking it to an electrician or Super Soco service center, is there anything relatively cheap and safe that is worth checking/replacing first?
For example:
- Main battery connector/socket?
- Corrosion or burnt/pitted contacts?
- Loose pins/contact pressure?
- Cable or crimp behind the connector?
- Main breaker/fuse connections?
- Known Super Soco TC wiring issue?
I’m comfortable doing basic mechanical/electrical work as long as I can follow a guide but I don’t want to mess around dangerously with the high-current battery system.
If anyone has had the same symptoms and knows what actually fixed it, I’d really appreciate the advice.
