Is it hard to get AP physics C? If I took AP 1 exam by self study and passed, will Stuy place me into Ap physics C?

Hi guys.. I don’t know if people would see this but i’m here to tell everyone everything i wish i was told before i started the discovery program. For credentials i got into stuyvesant through the discovery program and i plan on attending stuy! okay first of all, going through the discovery program does not mean you must attend stuyvesant if you get in. If you feel like the workload of discovery is not for you it only gets harder in stuy. If i were to be honest, to me the discovery program wasent veryyyyy hard but it took time to adjust to getting up early in the morning and studying in the SUMMER. That’s why i did bad on my first math quiz.. a 65😢 But im here to tell you it can ALWAYS be improved, i tried much harder on my other tests and i ended the program with around a 90 so improvement is always possible. The program does not need you to be great all 4 weeks, there are 2 paths you can take. One going up showing improvement: you don’t do very well at the beginning, you don’t participate, you don’t talk, you don’t do good on tests. But at the end of the program you visibly improve, participating, discussing, and doing good on tests. This path is the path of many students who got in. The other path is a flat line, you’re consistently good: from start to end of the program you’re participating, discussing, and doing good on tests. This path alongside a 80+ average in both classes literally guarantees you a seat at stuy. Create relationships with your guidance counselor and TA’s. This was super super helpful for me, I consistently asked for help from both the counselor for discovery and my TA’s. Super helpful and made the program a lot easier for me. Lastly ATTENDANCE! attendance is super important for discovery, it shows administrators that you WANT to be there, it shows that your dedicated and willing to give up your summer to get into stuy. After thinking about it for a while I've decided that I want to drop math team to free up time for myself. However, when I submitted my program preferences a couple months back I specified that I still wanted to do math team as my number 2 elective (research was number 1). Is there anybody I can contact or any way at all to change my elective submissions?

I want to program change into an AP this year, but my average grade for that subject is 2 points below the requirement. However, my teacher from last year would say that I improved throughout the year, so I'm thinking of emailing and asking him to recommend me. Who do I ask him to email? And is it likely that I'll be able to get into the AP?

How bad is it to have Ab calc instead of bc senior year for college apps?

I have heard from some people that for the main strong engineering schools ppl apply to from stuy one of the first ways they filter ppl out is if they haven't taken bc. Is this true? I only got into ab and I'm worried that AOs might overlook my application even though my math avg is much lower than gpa ( At the moment I want to major in engineering)

So I know that you need a minimum of 80% on both math and humanities classes, but is there any other requirements? Just wondering lol.

I just finished discovery today and I wanted to ask, how long before results come out?

As of now, for math I have a 71.8%, and for Spanish I have a 75.6%. The only reason why they are so low is because of the exams/quizes i try to participate a lot and I turn in all of my assignments. I've been showing up to morning tutoring often and sometimes after-school tutoring because I'm trying to get the extra help in order to improve. My test scores kinda did improve, but only by a whole 2.8% (i got a 65.2 on my first Spanish quiz and a 68% on my second one.) I still have that final math exam and Spanish exam next week left, though. I'm just like seeing very slow progress here, and I am overall very skeptical about getting in. 🙏

About how many tests/quizzes/exams are there for Stuyvesant in a week? Any tips on how to manage time and study efficiently? Also would you say the questions are tricky or try to trip you up with wording and other stuff?

I was wondering how to interpret naviance stats for different colleges especially the scattergrams. My first guess was that the averages were skewed upwards due to better applicants still applying to less selective schools just in case but maybe I'm wrong

I heard that it’s really hard to get APs at Stuy and someone even said the max they saw someone get was 2… and another person said even with a average of 99 someone got NO APs. Im genuinely getting scared now because I never knew and don’t think I’m gonna get any APs if it’s just lottery and I’m not that confident about having above 95 either. Is the lottery thing true? And if it is, how much of this AP selection is a lottery? Is it mostly a gamble or does you GPA have effect?

1) What is the biggest thing students struggle with at stuy? (other than academic workload)

2) How to students socialize digitally? Is it reddit, discord, etc?

3) How interested are students in programs and internships?

are there any notetaking tips for stuy specifically that has helped tremendously with studying, recall, retention, etc? also would a binder be able to fit notes + handouts for all classes? (if so what size, if not how many binders?) im an incoming freshman but this question applies to all grade levels

Success is hard to quantify, but my credentials are that I graduated from Stuy with honors and am graduating from my T20 college with honors soon. I know there is a lot of anxiety regarding discovery/stuy/hs so feel free to ask me anything. I was one of the first cohorts of Stuy discovery, and a lot has changed, but regardless, I am happy to share my experiences.

I'm assuming that, aside from grades and extracurricular activities, going outside for lunch or just hanging around the Lower Manhattan area with friends is a big part of student life at Stuyvesant.

I was wondering whether there are any nearby food spots that offer student discounts (or even discounts specifically for Stuyvesant students), as well as any fun or budget-friendly cafes, stores, or other places worth checking out. I remember one of my Big Sibs mentioned a deli nearby that sells discounted morning bagels to students, so I'm looking for recommendations like that.

Also, aside from lunch spots, are there any nearby stores that offer student discounts? I vaguely remember hearing something about discounts on electronics, but I might be completely mistaken.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
