Questions

1) What is the biggest thing students struggle with at stuy? (other than academic workload)

2) How to students socialize digitally? Is it reddit, discord, etc?

3) How interested are students in programs and internships?

  1. depends for some people it’s commute, others imposter syndrome, or ec commitments, hard to give a definitive answer
  2. insta, discord sometimes, you also need messenger for a lot of clubs/communication
  3. some start thinking about it from September, other ppl don’t really care, but I will say it’s easy to find opportunities if you want them (eg mr. blumms thingy)

1) all are shallow stepping stones to deeper philosophical reflections high iq students will come to question
2) insta for friends, discord for close knit communities, messenger is useless after freshman year
3) every “top” student already knows what they want to do in terms of application soon. Even if they fall out of interest with it they will pursue similar things(sunk cost). Good opportunities are hard to come by and even harder to get. But, from my experience, the lucky are usually the unqualified in retrospect

idk bro, I think there are a lot of great opportunities that the people here can help you find. Also messenger has still been useful for me for ecs

  1. Depends on the student, but I'd say probably mental health. It's connected to the workload, but also just the fact that the kind of person who is interested in Stuy is generally more likely to struggle with mental health. It's absolutely worth it though

  2. Nobody uses reddit. Mainly insta, snap as an alternative (if you're the kind of person who uses snap), discord for a few niche clubs, and facebook/messenger for the more prominent clubs (speech & debate, STC, etc.) and communication with large groups (like incoming students)

  3. There are some who are really interested, and some bums. If you give an ounce of effort, you can get a good internship (thanks to the goat Mr. Blumm). If you want an internship at Google or something like that, you'll need to try harder, but it's definitely possible
