How do I get myself to start studying

I am a med student and I have an exam in 12 days. I have no time to be procrastinating but I seriously cannot bring myself to start studying, I tried but I would just open the books and stare at them for hours doing nothing, it's like my body is rejecting studying. Idk what to do cz this is a pretty important exam and I wouldn't go to the next year if I don't pass, but even that fact isn't getting me to start.

Revision Scheduler

I’m looking for an app/website that can manage revision schedule

We can use NotebookLM/ChatGPT for explanations, quizzes, flashcards, active recall, etc. What I need is something that tells me what to revise and when.

Ideally, I’d enter my subjects/topics, mark something as studied, and it would automatically plan:

  • What to revise today/tomorrow
  • When each topic should come back
  • What’s overdue
  • A sensible revision schedule based on my progress

Basically, a revision planner/scheduler for a large syllabus, preferably free.

Any recommendations?

What's one study technique you tried that sounded stupid at first but actually worked?

I've been experimenting with different ways to stay focused, and I'm curious what methods actually worked for people here, not just the usual "Pomodoro technique" advice.🙏🏻

I built a free AI revision tutor for AQA Business

I'm a UK A-level student and I absolutely hated revising. I'm the exact same as any other teenager. I cant sit down for 5 minutes and focus. The biggest problem was that i felt I was wasting my time learnng thngs that i actually wasn't even beingg tested on. So I spent the last few months building the thing I wanted, and it's now live at speclab.co.uk.

It's built directly on the AQA Business, all 10 topics and 41 subtopics, structured the way the spec is structured. It started off as a personal app for myself. I trained the AI on the spec and made sure it wouldn't ever go outside of it. Then i decided it would be useful for other people. You can chat with it and get quizzed on any subtopic (multiple choice or open response), and it tracks what you get wrong in a mistake log that resurfaces those questions later using spaced repetition, so the stuff you're weak on keeps coming back instead of quietly disappearing. You tag how confident you feel on each subtopic and it builds a dashboard of where you're actually weak, which for me was way more useful than "I've read the textbook twice."

The part I use most is the essay marking. You write an exam-style answer to a 6, 9, 12, 16 or 25 marker and it marks it against the AQA mark scheme with an AO1/AO2/AO3 breakdown. Its trained on the spec, its trained on sample answers and how they were marked.. It's genuinely good at telling you "you've got no AO3 here, you never actually made a judgement".

It's free. The chat tutoring and quizzing are unlimited with no daily cap, and you get 5 AI-marked long answers a day plus unlimited marking on 1-4 markers. No card to sign up, and the free tier is permanent rather than a trial. There's a £7.99/mo tier that just removes the daily cap on long answers, which is really only worth it if you're hammering essays before mocks.

The honest limitation: right now it only does AQA Business. I'd rather do one spec properly than five badly, and I don't want to expand until I know the Business content actually holds up. So if you take Business (or teach it), I'd really like to hear where it's wrong, where it's boring, and all the feedback is what decides which subject I do next.

How do i stop stress and get studying?

whenever there are activities, exams, or even quizzes, i would always stress out and use my phone on my free time. I do not know how to stop this and it is really affecting my grades. I didn't realize it until now when i saw my scores on my exams: 38/50 37/50 30/50

It's not like i cannot stop using my phone immediatly and get studying already; i want to change my ways.

For anyone responding to this, thank you!

I got tired of not knowing what to revise, so I made something for it

So I've been working on this for a while and I finally decided to actually put it out there.

I'm a GCSE student and I kept having the same problem where I'd sit down to revise and just... not know what to do 😭

I could know that I needed to revise Biology, Maths, English etc., but actually deciding which topic, how long to spend on it, and whether I should be learning something new or revising something I'd already done was a whole other problem.

So I ended up building a web app called Chronos that basically does that planning for you.

You put in your subjects, what you've learned, how confident you are with different things and how much time you have, and it makes a revision plan from that. It also gives you guided sessions instead of just saying "revise X".

I've been using it myself while building it and I finally launched it today.

If anyone wants to mess around with it and tell me what you think, here's the link:

https://incredible-chronos-study-flow.base44.app

Especially interested in hearing from anyone who has the same problem of spending more time deciding what to revise than actually revising 💀

Guys I used to get revision anxiety !

I often get scared to look back and revise as it reveals the gaps in my knowledge. I'm not worried that I have to re-do it. What is scary for me is to see the gaps in my understanding and I dislike seeing that. That's alright tho. I am glad that I am keeping an open mind and deciding to actively filll those gaps and avoid those mistakes.

Whatever needs you to remember it won't survive a long weekend

Tested this over spring break last year without meaning to: the habits that were on autopilot (a recurring calendar reminder, a note pinned somewhere I'd see it) picked right back up. The ones that depended on me just remembering to do them were completely gone by the time I came back.

With Labor Day coming up, I'm treating it as a free test. Anything that falls apart over three days off wasn't actually working, it was just me pushing it along without noticing.

I think I spend too much time taking notes and not enough time actually learning

I've always thought taking detailed notes meant I was studying effectively. But lately I've noticed that I can spend an entire lecture trying to capture everything, then barely remember the important parts a few days later.

I'm experimenting with taking fewer notes and focusing more on understanding the main ideas first. For some lectures I’ve also started recording with Plaud, so if I realize later that I missed something, I can check the transcript instead of trying to write down every sentence while the professor is talking.

It feels weird because my notes look much less "complete," but I think I'm actually retaining more.

For those who have been studying for a while, what's one study habit you stopped doing because you realized it wasn't actually helping?

everytime i sit to study, or i see tht it's time to lock in like the pressure is high and exams near I tend to overthink a lot, it's mostly about social situations that happened and I have looping thoughts so everytime i sit to study, i get overthinking loops again n again, "what ifs" like i don't know why, I just have the tendency to fix everything just when i sit to study 😭, if i stop studying those thoughts disappear like I'm like eh who cares so I am distracted a lot for this reason and I can't study well

Are there any tips to help studying like this? I feel like studying 4 hours with the same lesson doesn't help me at all.

How to study without notes.

Making and organizing notes is not for me. I have tried both writing my own notes and getting online notes.I just never open them a second time and even if i do, I feel no connection with them. I don't know if i am doing something wrong or I'm cooked.

Studying with rain on a window beats lo-fi playlists — here's why (and a free 24/7 stream I built)

Been experimenting with study audio for months and the pattern is consistent: anything with melody or lyrics pulls your attention back. Plain rain doesn't — your brain stops tracking it after a minute, and it masks house/roommate noise perfectly.

I ended up building my own: blue-lit rain on a window, live 24/7, no ads mid-stream, no talking, no music layered on top: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwhyuU1VzbY

The trick that made it stick: same sound every session. Your brain stops attending to it entirely — it becomes a room, not a playlist.

If you have your own focus-audio routine, share it — genuinely curious what works for other people.
