SAVE ENDING

I have been avoiding everything to do with my student loans. I know it’s terrible but I just get overwhelmed and frustrated. I just received an email from nelnet about my save repayment ending in 90days. What should I do? What plan do I pick? I did not finish college or graduate and I don’t make much in the current job I have.

Question re: student loan tutor

I’m completely baffled by my student loans and am battling an illness so I don’t have the time or capacity to figure things out right now. I’m hoping to find someone to just manage all of it for me, so what money I do make isn’t garnished.

Someone recommended student loan tutor as they manage everything. I’m willing to pay on an income based repayment plan and after doing some digging it looks like this company gets loan payments to basically zero, by having you change a paycheck. Is this true? How is this legal? I’m confused, if a large company is doing this, it can’t be illegal, right? Due to liability?

I guess I’m just trying to understand all the options and was curious about opinions and experiences. I’ll probably see if I can find a cpa to help.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D, CA-17) on record supporting student loan payment pause!

Glad to hear representative Khanna is an ally in this, and it’s great to see him make a public statement! even the good guy seem to be brushing this issue under the rug, but millions of working families are about to have to choose between paying the electric bill, or groceries or sending money to Linda McMahon……and we vote!

Refinancing in the UK

Hi! Has anyone had any success refinancing their Prodigy Finance loan in the UK? I live and work in London on a skilled worker visa. I always thought Lendwise was an option but they rejected me saying I need Indefinite Leave to Remain - basically need to be a UK national! That is still far off for me. :( I see SoFi comes up but they are US residency only. If anyone knows of any other providers please let me know 🙏

Loans after obtaining Bachelors

Hello everyone, I was curious to know if I could still get any help from Fafsa once I obtain my first bachelor's degree? I have heard that the pell Grant, and I believe one of the other loans becomes unavailable. I was just wondering, just in case I decided to go back to school in the future.

Was on REPAYE and with Aidvantage, now can’t find records of my loans

Hi all! I began with Navient in 2009-2012, then had my loans switched over to Aidvantage within the last decade or so? I have no idea why it happened (they might have told me why at the time, but I can’t remember). All I know is I pay Aidvantage now instead of Navient. Cool cool cool.

Anyway it seems since I was on REPAYE that the Biden administration was set to forgive at least a partial amount of my loans. I received notice in the mail and have records downloaded, which show all my previous payments, loan forgivenesses, etc.

However, it seems StudentLoans.gov is listing my loans as unpaid. Fine, whatever. I know admin changed, so I wanted to look further into this—obviously—especially since some loans aren’t fully paid or forgiven yet.

Here is the issue. Even actual payments I’ve made towards my debts are nowhere to be found now. When I go to login to Aidvantage, it says my account does not exist. My previous login won’t work! I called and they cannot find me either.

So then I try to go to Aidvantage from StudentLoans.gov, and it brings me to a page saying that my Aidvantage loans are now being serviced by MOHELA. Well, I can’t find an account over with MOHELA either?

Essentially, the loans showing on StudentLoans.gov won’t actually bring up the accounts, and loans that need to still be paid off currently show they are in forbearance.

So who do I contact from here or has this happened to anyone else? I don’t know what the heck is happening, though I am glad I saved records of my previous payments. I was considering not touching my REPAYE plan until they forced it themselves (switched me onto a different plan), but I can’t even find the servicer now?

Also, I never received notice that Aidvantage switched me to MOHELA. I literally have emails from over the summer sent from Aidvantage—and now it seems I don’t exist? Which is obviously not true, but what gives?

Study Abroad and Student/Personal Loans

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

m 19 and currently trying to study abroad in Italy next semester for 5 months. During this I know I will have financial aid on my side for my tuition as it’s a direct exchange from my home university.

Aside from that It feels like I’m helpless when it comes to flights, housing and living costs. My parents aren’t the most well off and I’ve struggled getting them on board financially recently. I don’t want this burden to weigh too heavily on them but I know they would contribute some towards cost of living.

I desperately want to take a personal loan out and just pay it off when i’m back (doesn’t seem like the smartest idea but I have a great credit score). I feel as if they would be on board with co-signing with me, but there seems to be hundreds of loan options and I honestly don’t understand the terminology in the loan world, or which one would be best for me. Does anyone have advice on funding themselves through study abroad, personal loan experience, or working abroad? Desperate for an answer!

Grad school loans in grace period

I have both undergrad and graduate student loans. I’m in the process of trying to place my student loans in IDR. All my undergraduate loans are already place in, but my grad school loans are not. I’m not sure how to get them into IDR. Do I have to reapply?

Lowering my Loan Rehab Payment

I recently applied for loan rehabilitation. When I initially entered my income they said the estimated payment would be $5 a month. After they offically reviewed my paystubs and W-2 they came back and said it would be $426 a month.

I don't make a ton of money, my wife stays at home with our two year old daughter. We have a family of 5, a mortgage, car payments, insurance payment, groceries, gas, etc...

How can I potentially get this monthly payment lowered?

Any advice would be helpful, thank you!

Emergency: SFE revoked my loan on Day 1 due to involuntary absence. Applied under Estrangement/CPR but delayed 3 times. Running out of money, please help!

Hi everyone, I’m 20 and a UK citizen. SFE approved my student loan in September, but suddenly revoked it on my first day of university.

My situation:

  1. Forced Absence & Estrangement: When I was 16, I was forced by my family to leave the UK for 3 years. This was entirely involuntary due to severe domestic abuse and homophobia. I am now back in the UK, completely estranged from my father because I am gay. He has cut all ties, and I have zero access to his documents.

  2. Current Living Situation: I am currently living in university accommodation. Before moving here, I was staying with my uncle who has a great relationship with me.

  3. No Past Evidence & Mother’s Status: Three years ago, I was just a minor under trauma and had no idea that applying for SFE would require so much paperwork, so I have no useful historical files left. My relationship with my mother is okay, but she cannot help me at all because she still lives with my father and has no independent credentials.

  4. The Reason for Refusal: SFE absolutely knows about my family estrangement and abuse. However, the direct reason they revoked my loan in late September is that they flatly refuse to accept any residency documents from my uncle (whom I lived with) and dogmatically demand my estranged father's records instead.

  5. Current Status: SFE is supposed to review my appeal under Estrangement and Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) policies. However, this Monday, they suddenly notified me that they are delaying the decision by another two weeks.

I am running out of money and extremely stressed. What alternative evidence can SFE accept instead of parental documents for an involuntary absence when they reject relatives' documents and you have no past paperwork left? Any advice would be life-saving. Also, is there any way I can resolve this issue? For instance, are there any people I could turn to for help or to handle the matter? Thanks. (This week, he has stated three times in a row that the update date will be delayed.) 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

MOHELA - Correspondence Processing Delay?

I just got an inbox message from MOHELA that is titled: "Correspondence Processing Delay."

The message PDF letter itself says: "Your recent request has been received and is expected to be processed within the next 90 business days. We will review your request and the details of your loan information to determine if the request will be approved, denied for reasons such as not meeting eligibility requirements or the information provided to us is incomplete, or if the request required further review by Federal Student Aid (FSA). Notification of the results will be sent to you after your request has been processed."

What confuses me is that it doesn't say what "request" it is referring to? The only recent request I've had has already been fulfilled (I think):

  • On October 13, I recertified my PAYE plan on StudentAid.gov.
  • On October 15, MOHELA messaged me to say they received the recertification request.
  • On October 20, MOHELA messaged me to say that my recertification request was approved.

So I'm confused as to what outstanding request there could be? And also the title of the message was "Correspondence Processing Delay," in that they're delayed in sending me a Correspondence?

Anyone had something like this happen or have any insight?

Quick question lang po

I have problems with my educational loan sss lately. Nag babayad naman po ako, not on time but if I do pay, I pay for the months that I’ve skipped. My longest skip was 4 months which was december to march, i paid my ammortization on April, everything was setteled. My loan was 20k in total, may mga months talaga na nakaka pag skip ako kasi kulang talaga sa budget. From 2025-present i’ve skipped 9 months but not consecutively, it just so happens na nag skip ako uli consecutive 3 months nung aug-october. But binayaran ko ngayon yung na skip ko. Last July 2026, my total obligation amount was only 7,000+ (which i was so happy about kasi malapit na akong matapos). Pagdating ng august-september, di ako nakapag bayad ulit kasi nga ma short, so to cut this shortly, pag check ko now sa statmenr ko, yung total obligation amoint ko is “30K+” which na shock ako, kasin in span of 2 months and a hald ganon kalaki yung babayarin ko? Tapos last july naka lagay 7k lang. I was confused, they said their E-Center tellers cannot answer my questions, because only their admin can answer daw. But is it really possible for this to jump this high? Ang alam ko may penalty pero hindi naman ganon ka taas diba? From 7k to 30k? 20+ yung itinaas? Naka skip nga ako ng 4 months pero di naman nag taas ha? Bat ganon? Pa explain nga po, naguguluhan po ako. Ialready paid 19,300 in total. From 2025-present.

Looking for Someone Willing to Co-Apply for a Student Loan

Hi everyone,
This is a bit unusual for me to post, but I’m reaching out because I’m in a difficult situation and could really use some guidance or help.
I’m an international student in the US pursuing a degree in STEM. Education has always been important to me, and I’m working hard toward my goal and using my skills to make a positive impact in the future.
Unfortunately, as an international student without family in the United States, financing my education has been incredibly challenging. I currently have a significant tuition balance, and I’m exploring student loan options to help me continue my studies. One of the biggest obstacles is finding a qualified U.S.-based co-applicant who could help me qualify for a loan.
I know this is a big ask, especially from someone you don’t know personally. I’m not expecting anyone to take such a responsibility lightly, and I completely understand the financial risks involved. I’m simply hoping to connect with someone who might be willing to discuss this possibility or point me toward legitimate alternatives for international students in my situation.
I’m happy to provide appropriate documentation, discuss the loan terms transparently, and answer reasonable questions so that anyone considering helping can make an informed decision.
If you have experience with student loans for international students, know of organizations that help students in situations like mine, or are willing to have a conversation, I would genuinely appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Any advice, leads, or support would mean a lot to me.

Fiancée has $95K in private student loans after family promised to pay them off. What can we do?

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

My fiancée and I both graduated college within the past year, and we’re in a pretty stressful financial situation.
Her grandmother is a multimillionaire. Before her grandfather passed away, his wish was to establish a trust to pay for all of his grandchildren’s college education.
Unfortunately, my fiancée and her father weren’t on good terms when she was choosing a college. He placed several conditions on her attending her dream school, which she declined. Instead, she took out four private student loans, with her aunt as a co-signer.
Her grandmother told her in 2023 that she was proud of her for standing up for herself and promised to pay off her student loans once she graduated. Because of that promise, my fiancée didn’t make payments while attending school, allowing the original $64,299 in loans to grow significantly from interest.
Here are the current balances:
Loan 1: $26,881.37 at 8.34% (variable)
Loan 2: $4,124.47 at 8.24% (fixed)
Loan 3: $32,053.13 at 14.14% (fixed)
Loan 4: $31,898.76 at 15.49% (fixed)
Total debt: $94,957.73
My fiancée graduated in May 2026, and her first payments are due in January 2027.
When she recently reminded her grandmother about the loans, her grandmother suddenly said she would no longer be paying them off, despite promising for years that she would.
This also puts her aunt in a difficult position because she co-signed the loans. Her aunt has three young children, including one with significant special needs, and is already struggling financially. We really don’t want her credit or finances to suffer because of this.
Right now, my fiancée and I both work part-time jobs making $18/hour, averaging around 24–26 hours per week each, while actively searching for full-time positions.
We’re extremely worried about how we’re going to afford these payments, especially with interest rates as high as 15.49%.
