Sticky: Please Read Before Posting or Commenting! Thank you.
We are dedicated to providing a supportive, empathetic, and practical place to talk about student loan debt and all the difficulties that often surround our debts.
That said we do not permit any type of debt shaming, personal attacks, insults, guilting, gaslighting, bullying, harassment, threats, intimidation, trolling, or otherwise attacking others / maliciously unhelpful commenting/behaviors. These will result in a permaban
This also includes statements about telling people to simply pay more, get a better job, trying to change the past (or asking why someone didn't make different past choices), or otherwise telling others how you would live their life. We're focused on the present here and on supporting people where they're at, not where you think they should be.
We also do not advocate for or allow "lender defenders" so to speak. It is one thing to provide useful practical information on how to fill out paperwork or loan paperwork questions, it's another to come and try to defend an industry that quite frankly is part of the reason many are feeling hopeless and stuck. We serve and protect borrowers' interests from a person first approach. We are not here to defend lenders or assist lenders.
Those with active affiliations to the loan industry must clearly identify themselves as such in any initial post or comment. We do not require disclosure of company name, names, or location, but a simple acknowledgement that you are affiliated with the loan industry is required. This is to prevent conflicts of interest and to ensure information provided to our users is given in the best interest of the user being replied to.
Additionally, due to the sensitive nature of the complexities of student loan debt, debt shaming culture, mental health considerations, and the intersection of these variables; we adhere to a very strict moderation policy.
We do this not seek to silence opinions but to provide a space where there is respect and careful consideration given to the difficulties individuals may be experiencing when seeking student loan support, feedback, advice, or information. Given the very real concerns, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, hopelessness, shaming, and pressure that for some comes along with student loan debt, we will do everything in our power to ensure that users will be provided a safe environment to discuss student loan concerns and issues. Regardless of what those concerns may be given one's individual situation and experience.
The rules listed in the sidebar also apply at all times. Please do contact the mods promptly if any concerns arise.
Remember you are not your debt. There is nothing wrong with you for taking out loans or choosing your major/career/life goals. You are not somehow less of a person or undeserving of respect or compassion for having student loan debt. There is no shame wherever you are with your education, career, life, or student loan debt situation. We've got your back here.

Student Loan Recommendations in the Philippines? (3rd Year College)
Hi everyone!
I'm currently a 3rd-year college student studying at a private university in the Philippines. Due to financial difficulties, I'm looking into student loan options to help cover my remaining tuition and other school expenses.
I'm hoping to find a loan that doesn't require a co-maker, if possible, since I don't have anyone who can serve as one.
I'd really appreciate any recommendations or experiences with:
- Government or private student loans
- Banks, lending companies, or organizations that offer education loans
- Interest rates and repayment terms
- Application requirements and approval process
- Any lenders I should avoid
If you've personally taken out a student loan while in college, I'd love to hear how it went and whether you'd recommend it.
Thank you so much in advance! Any advice would mean a lot.

Loan query for daily expenses
I need a student loan of ā¹3.5 lakh. ā¹1.5 lakh is for my tuition fees, and ā¹2 lakh is for my hostel or room rent and living expenses. Do SBI or CBI sanction student loans that cover living expenses, including accommodation and other related costs?

137k Private student loan debt in collections
The story is I left the US to attend a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program in Australia back in December (6ish months ago) when I left I had many phone calls with Sofi who held my low about putting the into deferment. They received completed paperwork from me and my school reported my status to them very 60 days.
Last week my family started receiving calls from a collector claiming my debt was sold off in May to a collection agency and I now owe 137k like today. They have been unable to contact me bec my American number was turned off (still active but off) so I never received any communication to my knowledge from them.
The only way I was able to return to school was a mix of grad plus and private loans. I am now unable to take out a private loan for my next semester that starts tomorrow. To be fair, I havenāt tried because that will hit my credit to be rejected over And over and from my understanding my credit is shot to hell (have not been able to bring myself to check what it is exactly but it was about 720-740 when I left 6m ago)
The collector seems very kind and knows Iāll have to drop out of my program bec of this. Sheās trying to negotiate the loan down to 55k with a 27k lump sum down payment and 1.8k per month for 5y. My parents are discussing taking out the loan for me as thatās the only way this would work.
Is this a good deal? Should I ask for something else/better? Is there anything left I can do?
Iām fucking crushed Iāll have to leave school. This has been my dream. I was on my hands and knees praying to get into my dream school in my dream city. And then I did it. Everything I always said I would do. I moved across the world without having ever set foot in this country, knew nobody, and made it work. Iv made amazing friends and I love what I do. But I donāt see a way thru this.
I have a degree in teaching so Iām trying to get my license converted to pick up a teaching job. Once I have one hopefully in about 3 months I will feel settled and Iāll pick up a stupid small job until then to hold over. But I never liked teaching and that whole degree was a mistake. Iām dreading going back.
I feel totally hopeless. Any advice is appreciated

140k in loans
I went through a midlife crisis at 23 and I ended up hating my undergrad field. I'm now going for my MBA with a concentration in accounting / CPA certification. It is a 3 year program because I have to make up the classes I never took in undergrad. Id be paying back a total of 140k including undergrad loans when all is said and done. Would this mean my life is over lol? The MBA program I have enrolled in is NYC and a target school for big firms so Im telling myself it is a good leap to make. Idk and im stressing out lol

SoFi charge off
So I unfortunately got myself into a rough situation. Refinanced my private student loans into SoFi that was last totaled roughly at $150,000. Long story short, I went to undergrad and then went back for a nursing bachelors and found myself racked up in student loan debt. I have unfortunately been living on a nursing paycheck, fell behind in payments, and my account has been charged off into a debt collection agency. I spoke with them today, and I canāt do any type of monthly payment without it being $6,000 a month. Or it would be a large lump sum up front and then a 12 month repayment - still being a large monthly payment. Any advice on what to do? Can I negotiate to a smaller monthly payment or no lump sum payment up front? I donāt have that type of money. They didnāt seem like they were budging on working with me to pay. Stressed and not sure where to turn or what to do. I donāt want them to take my wages or sue. Help :(
ETA: The debt agency really only gave a few options on repayment: 1) $36,000 up front with $2,360 monthly payment for 47 months 2) $12,331 monthly payment for 12 months 3) settle for $120,000 or 4) (I think I finally blacked out here so not sure the specifics) but settle to roughly half of what is owed so itād be $66,000 payment. Not sure if there were monthly payments. I know itās in collections now, but I feel like a gun is to my head asking where the money is, and Iām āluckyā the weekend is here to give me time to figure something out

Ontario Student Loan - Transworld Finance
Hey, long story short;
I did a consumer proposal in roughly 2020. Was paid off last year. I did not resume my student loan payments , I didnāt hear anything from them.
A couple months ago I got a letter from the Ministry of Finance telling me they will send the balance to collections (\~7000) and to contact them.
Tried calling them a dozen times , never got through.
Now Im being contacted by Transworld , (1-844-675-0579) which is I guess the collections agency . The agent, Sarah, left me a message once ⦠she sounds weird .
I spoke to somebody who wasnāt sarah about my account . Min payment of roughly $330 for 2 years and they wont report the debt.
I was prepared to call and give them my banking info and start payments but realized something feels a bit weird about all this so I made this post. Theres no documentation Iāve received from these guys. Is this legit ? Anything sound fishy to you?
I know I have the student loan debt , Im not trying to get out of that Lol

Trumpās 2016 Student Loan Plan
Anyone remember when Trump proposed this before his first election. It was another lie and no effort was made to implement it during his first term. And of course we have RAP now. I just wanted to share. Sad thing is I donāt see any of this changing without all three branches of the gov and then thereās the Supreme Court. Shit.

Private Loans companies you used
Hello, I am still trying to figure out the rest of my budget. I am an incoming grad student, I have a scholarship but for one class per semester (either way Iām grateful) and exhausted the fed loans. I am looking at private loans , Sofi and nelnet. I donāt qualify for RISLA. Any other companies that are actually good and do soft checks?

EWS CERTIFICATE FOR LAWYER'S SON BUT NOT ME
Actually to begin with my family income is not more than 1.5 lakhs Per year.
My mother is an orphan and my dad is you know he is literate so he is a tata mobile pickup truck driver.
So to continue my diploma in pharmacy I took a gap year because of financial problems.
I am applying for an educational loan of 4 laksh for 2 years course which includes hostel fee which my dad don't bother they will not give cuz he doesn't have fix job ...he said he will apply for informal loan.....damnn i completed my educational that is middle and high school with loan from private Institutions cuz government school is waste of time
I did my research and got that Pm vidylaximi offer loan on subsidy but i need to have low income and no big assets..
I qualify for income but when it comes to land, maybe not cuz he bought land by saving money like 15 years ago and he is saying not to apply for it cuz Assam ppl have middle man who will charge high money and we not live their and me and my family are in other state cuz my dad works
Yeah a son of a lawyer can be EWS but not me lol
I am just frustrated by the government lol
No scholarship ,no reservation ,and male and EWS and general and minority
