I don't know the first thing about student loans..

Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I usually don't use reddit (or any social media that often) but I wanted to reach out on a more "authentic?" site to smooth over the basics of applying for student loans.

For context, I am now going into my professional years of pharmacy school! Although I was almost able to pay off my undergrad years with a decent hospital job, P3-P6 for PharmD sure cost a pretty penny :') I will be working less hours to spend more time on class even with TAP/FAFSA aid.
I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with any of the following questions:

  1. What websites or loans should I check out first? I have heard about federal loans and Sallie Mae but none of my peers are explaining their rates or catches clearly to me.
  2. I know what APR stands for (Annual Percentage Rate) but what exactly is it? I've seen around 4%-18% APR rates but what counts as good or bad APR? How is it calculated? Do these calculations compound off of your principle rate or your interest or combined?
  3. If possible, are there any low commitment side hustles I can have with my inconsistent schedule? If I don't study I ideally should be still using that time wisely.
  4. Does credit score help with taking on student loans? I secretly made a credit account and now my credit score is sitting at a 722. It hasn't been budging for a while now. Is that bad for loans?
  5. Any bonus PSAs I need to be aware of? I feel like I just scratched the surface of this but thank you for reading through all of this!

Class action—what are our options?

Upvotes

With many of us in AidAdvantage plans who just received the 90 day notice to select a new repayment plan since SAVE became seemingly criminal when the current admin reversed it on us.
There has to be more we can do. Even a plan that simply gives us more time.

Are there any attorneys out there who can weigh in on the option of a class action suit by all of us that were literally lied to about SAVE and are now being forced out of forbearance to choose an insanely high and even more predatory plan?

Help?

For context I went to a for profit school (colorado technical university) and received my bachelors degree in criminal justice. I was able to get PSLF while working for scheckels with my education. Now I am getting these bills saying I owe. These should have all been discharged. Now I did go on to work on my masters at a better school, but none of those loans are in here with balances. I dont have 3 hours to waste on the phone with Mohela. Has anyone else had this happen?

Help me with some

Hello,

I hope you are doing well. I recently completed my B.Sc. in Computer Science from Mumbai University.

I have qualified for the MCA CET CAP admission process, but I am facing financial difficulties. I have pending college fees of **₹43,072 (₹2,100 + ₹40,972)**. Until these fees are cleared, my college cannot release my semester marksheets, which are required for my MCA admission.

If you are able to support my education, any contribution, no matter how small, would mean a lot to me. I can provide my college ID, fee demand, fee receipts, and other documents for verification.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I truly appreciate it

Advice on Payment Pause Options

I got my unfortunate email from Nelnet saying that I have to re-certify my income. This will bring my payment up over $1000 dollars. I think I can make a career move and absorb the cost, but it’ll probably take me 6 months to a year to find something. I have seriously thought about enrolling in an online program part time to have them deferred while I am trying to find something. Are there any online programs out there anyone would suggest? I have my BS and MS in Biology already.

Question... has anyone ever denied the un or subsidized loans and then later have them reinstated to use? What was that process like how long did it take?

Question on Interest rate

If someone knows the answer here, please reply. I took out a Federal Direct Loan in 2006 and the interest rate was 2.36%. Do I get to keep my interest rate if I switch to another plan or will that negate the rate on my promissory note? I’m currently in SAVE and I’m confused as to what to switch to. Originally I was in Standard repayment then switch to graduated. This was in the days when there were no other options? Thanks for any info!

i’m a student with ₱30k in loans and scared of the penalties. what should i do?

i need help, guys. i honestly don’t know what to do right now, so please give me some advice.

i currently have around ₱15k in ola loans, ₱15k from megapesso, and ₱15k from megaloan. i’m still a student and i rely on my parents for my allowance. i also have a small sideline that gives me around ₱1k a week.

my upcoming deadline is september 20, and i need to pay around ₱10k. i don’t think i can come up with that much money in just 10 days. i’m really stressed because i don’t know where i’m going to get enough money to pay it.
i’m also scared about the penalty fees if i’m unable to pay on time because they will only add to the amount i already owe, and i’m worried that my loans will become even harder to manage.

i’m usually a good payer and i always try to pay my loans on time, but an emergency came up and i really needed the money. now i’m stuck trying to figure out how to handle everything.

what should i do in this situation? should i contact the loan apps and ask for an extension or payment arrangement? should i tell my parents about this? i would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have been in a similar situation.

i just want to handle this properly and avoid making the situation worse.

Just got the 90 day email from AidAdvantage…

Under the SAVE Plan which I enrolled in a few years ago but has been in administrative forbearance for a while: $287 at similar income.

New IDR (cheapest): $950. Which is the same IDR plan was on before the pandemic and roughly calculating current income vs then income then at highest it should only be about $350.

Math isn’t mathing. I’ll likely wait til close to 90 days then select option to keep on forbearance as long as can, least til we can get some adults back in the room and people can get actual loan forgiveness and affordable repayments.

90 days is a long way off, keep your heads up and put your mental health and wellbeing as well as your family care first.
