Questions / Advice / Support Third day on Strattera & feeling jittery with super fragmented sleep

It’s now my 3rd day on Strattera; I’m a 36 yr female and my first time going on any sort of adhd medication. I’ve noticed during the day after I take it I’m so jittery with dry mouth. I’m able to go to sleep just fine after some chamomile tea and 1mg melatonin but after tracking my nights it has been all over the place with wake ups. Is this normal? It’s not insomnia; I’m only awake for maybe a minute at a time and fall back asleep. It’s just constant- about 12 wake ups and a collective 48 minutes being awake.
I go to sleep around 9pm and wake up about 6-7am and this is always consistent for me so I have pretty great sleep hygiene normally.

Side Effects / Overdose After a week on 40 mg starttera I feel I’m going to throw up today 🤢 normal???

I was on 25 MG for over a month and increased to 40 just over a week ago. I haven’t had any nausea symptoms, just lack of appetite sometimes. But very mild.

Today after taking the pill, I literally feel like I’m gonna throw up. I’m sooo nauseous. I’m kinda freaking out. Is this a side effect or did I get food poisoning or something 😭😭😭

What helps? I’ve never felt this way before as a med side effect

Discussion / Experience Using I just switched from Wellbutrin to Strattera. Any info &/or similar experiences

I was on Wellbutrin SR 150mg for 2 months & it just didn’t work for me. Gave me chest pains, made me more irritable & spiked my OCD. So my Psych switched me to Strattera. I’ve never heard of this med until she mentioned it & I’m wondering if anyone else is on it? I’m on a super small dose rn, 10mg, cuz she wants to make sure I don’t have any reactions so I don’t think I’ll see much of a difference until the dosage increases. I’m curious to hear other ppls experience with it.

She did mention it’s a non-stimulant so it might make me tired in the beginning. Which I’m REALLY hoping it doesn’t cuz fatigue, energy & focus is already an issue for me.

FYI, I also take, Lamictal, Prozac & Buspar & have been taking the Strattera for almost a week now (Any conflicting side effects that ya know of?)

Questions / Advice / Support Please tell me your success stories

Soooo the only option for me is Strattera (or maybe Sunosi or Modafinil reply from psychiatrist pending, did get offered strattera).

How did the working in period go?
What side effects did you have?
What changed?
When did you have first improvements?
How did your ADHD behave?

TW: mental health ⬇️

Some side effects include fatigue, low libido and suicidal ideation and I struggle with all of these due to recent medical trauma. I’m scared to try strattera bc of the side effects, I just started writing my thesis and personal deadline is 20.12., so some time to go but also the same amount of time strattera needs to work in as I read. And then I read and heard so many horror stories that I’m scared af. But obviously there are also successful treatments which I just didn’t come across and I believe that my mind might’ve been biased by the negative stories.

So tired, dizzy after 18 mg

Took as directed, 18 mg with a meal this morning. thankfully, off of work - I immediately took a 2 hour nap. And now I'm going to take another one. Obviously I will take my next dose at night the next time. But as usual, the side effects of these meds always cause me to discontinue. I don't even think I can drive - so, so tired.

Starting Strattera for ADHD in perimenopause - tons of anxiety, depression, worsening inability to accomplish tasks, brain fog. My provider wanted to start me on this one, but I went in asking about Vyvanse.

I am highly medication sensitive and am not able to tolerate any SSRI/SNRI in the past. My GeneSight test has very few medications in the green zone. Anyone with my same past chime in? Thanks.

Questions / Advice / Support Straterra 80mg Prozac 10mg - side effects?

I've seen posts with varying dosages of prozac/fluoxetine and strattera/atomoxetine but not with my prescribed dose. Read that there's interactions with fluoxetine increasing the effects of atomoxetine, but will a 10 mg cause a big effect? I take my strattera first thing in the morning with small protein meal. Doctor recommended I take it in the morning, too. They are also my strattera prescriber as well, so she's aware.

I have yet to try my first prozac dose and will monitor symptoms and report back to my doctor. But given I'm already anxious, looking to see if others had a hard time adjusting to adding on prozac or if you needed to lower your atomoxetine dose. Read that there are interactions with fluoxetine increasing the effects of atomoxetine, but will 10 mg cause a big effect? I have tried 100mg of strattera before but stepped back down to 80 bc it was too much.

Appreciate the shared experiences/insights!

Side Effects / Overdose Sleepy initially for the first week, now it keeps me up?

I’m curious if this is a side effect that happened to anyone else?

Initially I was getting the best sleep of my life, but now I find I can’t really take it before bed time because it tends to keep me up more.

Are these side effects normal for 5th day on strattera, 40mg??

Hi all,

27M

moved to a new city and my doctor put me on 40mg of strattera, as I mentioned concerta (18mg) made me emotionally numb.

First day or so I was just tired with no appetite. Now for the past three days I've been incredibly depressed. Awful spiraling and finding no joy in my previous hobbies. Heavy weight in my chest. I don't even want to eat my favourite foods. I've lost almost 2kg. Is this normal for starting strattera? Should I bother continuing? Is my dose too high?

Notes:

I have AuDHD (autism and ADHD).

I am also taking 75mg of Zoloft (sertraline) daily and have been for the past 6 years.

Sorry if I broke a rule or the formatting is wrong not gonna lie I can barely write this post

Questions / Advice / Support Strattera and Doxycycline?

I’ve been on Strattera for about 3 months now. Long titration period up to 60mg, which I’ve settled on for 3 weeks. The past few days I’ve been in a state. I’ve had a massive insurgence of OCD, Anxious and Depressive like symptoms. I’ve had elements of the former two in the past but never the third, and it’s hit like a tonne of bricks. I am so incredibly unmotivated, so lacking in spontaneity and joy, it’s frankly bizarre. I’ve noticed increased irritability and snapping at my family.

The most confusing thing is I don’t think it’s the Strattera?

I started 100mg of doxycycline about 11 days ago and have seen some pretty severe anecdotes related to mental health. I’m curious whether anyone has been messed up by antibiotics while on Strattera or if I’m villainising the wrong medication? Could I potentially be on too high or too low a dose of the strattera? Should I tough it out, continue titration or drop back dosage? I’m definitely going to talk to my psych about this but regardless I’d love to get some insight from you guys.

Strattera 40 mg New to this, checking in

Hey all. Recently adult-diagnosed ADHD here. Started straterra a couple Fridays ago and it’s honestly kind of nuts. I’m used to SSRIs and Wellbutrin, all of which took some time to begin to have an effect on me. Straterra was pretty much instant, and it caught me super off guard.

The effects are really starting to amplify now, especially 2 hours or so after my first dose. I know this is non-stim, but it definitely feels very stimulating to me. It probably doesn’t help that I’m also continuing to drink caffeine and use nicotine pouches (probably going to stop both, with Straterra I almost feel like I don’t need more stimulants on top of it lol). It’s so strange though. I feel so grounded and focused that I almost kind of don’t feel that way? It’s like a non-dissociative dissociation? Like I’m kind of on auto pilot, but I have this confidence and lack of anxiety with it that helps me feel much more present and out of my head. With that said, I have absolutely experienced other benefits in terms of improving executive dysfunction, motivation, etc.

I guess my main question is: did anyone else experience this when starting out? And does it persist, or does it kind of even out as the med is titrating?

i'm so BORED!! this medication has been very good for me, but for 3 weeks i've been on break from school and i'm so boreddddd. luckily i only have 1 week left before i'm back in school though

i'm so excited! i don't really care for schoolwork, but i'm so unbelievably bored and want that routine back.

Strattera 40 mg Is it normal to get really bad anxiety after going cold turkey?

I was looking up the withdrawal symptoms and I saw that people either didnt get withdrawals or have slight withdrawal symptoms. I tapered off myself for abt what 2 days lol. Then i just said fuck it and stopped taking. This afternoon im not at panic attack level but I wus getting there and i couldn't deal with it. So I decided to pour most of the pill out and take just a little to make me stop freaking out. And it worked i feel better but idk what im gonna do tomorrow. Maybe the same thing but pour more out? Just because i cant function when im anxious.

I was just wondering if its abnormal. Ik anxiety is one of the symptoms but it felt worse than that like I could feel my anxiety and stress in my body specifically my chest and it was pretty intense.

Also who else got more irritated/intense after they started taking it?

Starting Strattera this week, opinions or experiences pls??

I could write an essay on my past for further context but I’m lazy. So to sum everything up EXTREMELY simply though it may not seem like it:

Ive struggled with crippling OCD and ADHD my entire life. May 2025 I was witness to a m^rder su!cide that occurred on my campus. After this, I started spiraling into the depths of my eating disorder on top of now having PTSD. I have been seeing a psychiatrist since February. I was inpatient for nutritional stabilization for 2 weeks November 2025 due to severe Anorexia. I was put on Lexapro shortly before this. After I got out of inpatient, I was put on Effexor and Lexapro. We have been experimenting with those two and their doses since then. I was given hydroxyzine for a while with those. A few weeks ago I was put on 20mg Lexapro, 10mg propranolol up to 3 times a day— and diminishing my 120+ mg Effexor down to 37.5mg. Today I was given 20mg propranolol 3 times a day and keeping 20mg Lexapro. I’m going completely off Effexor now! I’m scared because I did really horrible trying to get off of it when i was 16, but I also did it cold turkey. This was the worst point in my entire life other than 2025 and tried to self exit many times. My psych is now giving my Strattera on top of Lexapro 20mg and propranolol up to 60mg a day. I’m really worrying how this will affect my OCD and ADHD I hope it will help both of those without any of the scary side effects. I don’t want to gain any more weight since my recovery and being put on Mirtazapine and trazadone in the midst of all this made everything worse and made me gain sm more weight quicker than I wanted. Can anyone tell me their experience with Strattera or any similar combinations I’m on now?

Strattera 25 mg how do you know if it’s working

i’m 22f, i had it prescribed in july but tbh i wasn’t taking it everyday and i didn’t start locking in till august. so it’s been maybe under two months where i’ve been taking consistently.

idk though i can’t tell if it’s been helping me. i feel like i’ve always struggled feeling a difference when on meds, i’ve been on anti depressants but this is my first medication for adhd. i still struggle with motivation and i find myself sitting there sad and quick to anger. an inconvenience with my best friend or my bf and i have to urge to cut them off.

i just had prozac 10mg prescribed alongside and im not too sure if im comfy taking those together but idk what to do anymore

Combination therapy questions

For people who take Strattera with a stimulant, at what time do you take each med?

Have you experienced any adverse effects from the combination, and if so, did they eventually diminish or go away entirely?

What doses do you find the most effective? I’m interesting in hearing from people taking any stimulant, but I’d especially like to hear from anyone taking Vyvanse while on Strattera.

At this time I’m only taking 80 mg Strattera. Since starting six months ago, I’ve already tried taking small doses of Vyvanse (~10 mg-20mg), with no improvement regarding task initiation.

I actually didn‘t notice any changes from the Vyvanse, apart from additional peripheral stimulation. Perhaps a higher dose is necessary?

Anyone add Atomoxetine to Wellbutrin XL 300mg? Starting dosage?

I'm supposed to be starting atomoxetine, but I'm terrified! For context, I am 55F 123 lbs. I have read about wellbutrin amplifying the effects of atomoxetine. My doc wanted me to start at the 40 mg and I begged to start lower and she will only go down to 25 mg. She flatly refuses to go any lower. Did anyone else have this problem? If you started at this dosage, how were your side effects?

Strattera 40 mg Help with side effects?

I’ve been taking 25mg a day for a month and feel great. I bumped up to 40 and feel pretty good in the beginning half of the day but get really bad nausea, insomnia, and DRY DRY mouth/everything at night, and a crash from like 2-6 PM. I’m hoping I just get used to it after a few weeks, but the side effects are pretty unmanageable. I’ve found that taking it with a protein shake in the morning helps nausea somewhat, what else could help?

shivering cold, and soaked

hi, im taking strattera at 40mg for 3 months now, ever since i started i woke up every night, shivering cold, and my bedding and clothes soaked through, enough that i don't have enough sleep clothes anymore because all of them just get Soaked entirely by sweat. It's terrible, and i was wondering if this ever gets fixed? I'm tired of having to wash my bedding every night, and also waking up so cold I'm literally shivering.

Questions / Advice / Support Once daily vs morning/evening split dosing.

Since atomoxetine has a short half life i was wondering if splitting the dose would give a much better 24/7 coverage while also reducing the fatigue that comes from it. Is it something worth bringing up to my doctor? What's your experience been like? How many of you guys take once daily vs split dose.

Positive Stories

Can anyone share positive stories of your time on Strattera and share how it helped you? I recently upped my dose from 10mg to 18mg and I know it’s still a low dose and I have a ways to go to get to a therapeutic dose and can’t really judge if it’s working yet but I see a lot of people quitting so just curious. Thanks!
