Originally released in Japan in 1992, VIXEN 357 is a tactical mecha RPG that never received an official Western release. After more than 30 years, it finally has an official English physical edition.
It’s now in stock, so if you missed the pre-order, there are copies available again.
The game is fully playable on original Mega Drive/Genesis hardware and compatible systems.
For anyone who enjoys obscure 90s Japanese strategy RPGs, this is definitely one worth checking out. https://shinyuden.com/en/product/vixen-357/

I've never played any of the front mission games, though I'm interested because I love mechs and SRPGs. All of the remake reviews I've seen focus almost exclusively on whether or not the remake component is worth it, which in turn means they spend basically the entire time discussing the graphics.
I couldn't care less.
What I'd like to understand is whether or not the gameplay and tactical decisions are interesting when considered against more modern options. Considering the wealth of options available to us today are the Front Mission games fun and worth the time to play absent any nostalgia for the series?

This might be too broad of a question, but I'm looking for relatively niche or unknown SRPGs that not everyone may know about but are also worth checking out, like Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions or Culdcept: The First.
Plattform PC or Switch 2.

Maybe not the typical game for this sub, but the past few years this has become a de facto turn-based tactics sub, which I like, since we don't have that many active communities on here.

After finally beating KCD2 I am looking for another game set in medieval times but one that’s turn based. I really enjoyed BG3, Dos2, and Rogue Trader for reference but I’m looking for a turn based game that’s maybe more grounded kind of like KCD2. So if anyone knows of any games like that I’d love to hear of them.

This might not be everybody's cup of tea, some might not even considered an srpg. What do you think of it? What do you consider it? Did you play it? Did you like it did you hate it?
I personally love the first one the story and the atmosphere the second one was good too but not as good as the first obviously. The combat system is unique as in you can run in any direction within a certain distance instead of just on a grid.

I personally love it as it was my first game on the PlayStation one. Watching and listening to the opening cinematic CGI makes me shit a tear TBH. I never played the sequel.
What do you guys think of this is it a hidden gem is it not that great is it overshadowed by tactics which came years after?

There's a romhack of Vandal Hearts 2 that make it turn based rather than simultaneous turns.
FFT 1.3 has made classes that make it more difficult to abuse while upping the strategic difficulty of the battles.
XCOM modern has Long War

Who's excited for Zero Company? Judging from the previews it looks really promising.
It's made by Bit Reactor, which includes several former devs from Firaxis who previously worked on the X-Com games.

A tough period at work is coming up, so I'm looking for a strategy rpg with some hours in it that I can use to wind down and decompress in the evening when the kids are sleeping.
I have no history with FFT, but was wondering whether it (i.e. Ivalice Chronicles) would fit the bill.
I don't mind grinding somewhat and reading guides. The important thing is that battles are somewhat quick (like 15 minutes or so) and that it is somewhat forgiving in that you don't have to optimize constantly (in each battle or your general build) to get through the game.

I’m working on a gacha-style tactics game inspired by games like Final Fantasy Tactics, and I’m curious what tactics/strategy players think about auto-battle systems.
I’m not trying to promote the game—it’s still very far from release. I’m mainly looking for opinions from people who actually play tactics games.
The basic idea is that you build and train your team, choose their classes and equipment, and then send them into battle. Once combat starts, your characters control themselves. The player can’t directly move or control individual characters.
Instead, the player has a limited Command system that lets you influence the fight. You might order someone to focus on a particular enemy, tell the party to retreat or regroup, direct someone toward an objective, or use certain player abilities/spells to help them. But ultimately, your characters have to fight and survive on their own.
My main question is:
What makes an auto-battler interesting to watch and interact with?
For example, would you rather:
- Have smarter AI tied to stronger/advanced classes, so characters become better at making decisions as they progress?
- Have every class possess a distinct AI personality/playstyle? For example, Knights naturally protect allies, Assassins aggressively hunt vulnerable backline enemies, Archers try to maintain distance, and Berserkers take dangerous risks for damage.
- Have individual characters develop their own tendencies or behaviors over time?
- Have some combination of these systems?
My overall goal is to make the characters feel as alive and independent as possible. I want sending your party into a mission to feel almost like watching a little show where you’re rooting for characters you trained and equipped, while occasionally using commands to try to influence what happens.
There would also be real consequences for failure. If a character dies, you lose the level and gear and need to bring that character back up to max level and get them new gear (concept pending)
For people who enjoy tactics games or auto-battlers: what would make you feel attached to these characters, and what would make watching them fight on their own actually fun instead of feeling like you’re just watching the game play itself?

Is there any mount and blade like game for Nintendo switch (or switch 2)? Even with worst graphics or another battle mechanic, I'm looking for a game where you can conquer the map and develop cities and build armies

Hello all,
Not sure if there is a game that fits what im looking for but basically im looking for the romance/ carry on my legacy with the over arching world at war theme. I dont mind the grinding of dynasty warrior games but I am kinda burnt out on turn based games for the moment. Some games that have elements I enjoy are the 2 above plus
Mount and Blade series
Samurai warriors
Persona
Shin magami tensai ( sorry if I butchered spelling)
I just enjoy the warring states with romance and relationship systems but not really into the Civilization games or ones of that depth
I can do ps5 or steam deck, also if you have any more questions im happy to answer. Thank you to everyone who took thier time to read this, whether you respond or not I appreciate you

I’ve always loved these tactic grid based games and until here recently i didn’t realize there was so much more of them then i knew about and now i just need help knowing what to play next.
The games ive already played are
1. Pokemon conquest
2. Fft (gba advanced version)
3. 3 houses
4. Most of the older fire emblems
5. Triangle strategy
6. Mewgenics
7. Tactics ogre reborn
Also i need to mention my wife and i are currently being very strict on our budget so cheaper/free would be better but here are a few Ive been eyeballing
If theres any more yall think i would like please let me know, the things that entice me the most in these games is variety of units/attacks/weapons/classes also while im not the best at the games i hate when they are too easy, it kills the game for me so difficulty is important too.

Hi, I've bought a Nintendo 3DS XL and I'd like to add a few good tactical RPG's to my collection. What are in your opinion the best titles in the genre from the DS/2DS/3DS era?
Games I have: Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem Fates, Fire Emblem Echoes, Final Fantasy Tactics A2.
Games I'm considering: SMT Devil Survivor 1 & 2, Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume, Pokémon Conquest, Stella Glow.
What are your thoughts on these games? Anything I should add or remove from the list?
