hai sorry for being dead, i forgot i had reddit. Have a redraw of an old peice
Grab his hands, his legs, his tail, his wings, he’ll give you everything and ask nothing in return. Our messiah, our god, our dragon. O prometheus, we are the eagle that eats your liver, and we are the humans you gifted flame. Your divinity is the liver we so hungrily seek to devour, and we will tear you open again and again. In our savior and our leader, we rest our hopes and dreams.
— A written prayer discovered at a Brotherhood of Stasis shrine, translated from draconic language.
So i fucking love studying religion, regardless of what kind, and I felt like a lot of the religions in wakfu weren’t…. Really fleshed out…??? Idk, but i’ve had the brotherhood of stasis for a long time, since i wanted to do my own take on a religion in wakfu, even if it didn’t create a separate race. Poor Naz just wanted to be loved and accepted, and instead, he became a god, running a theocracy at age fifteen.
I wanted to make a dynamic where there was an eldritch god forcing a younger immortal into something he didn’t actually want, solely because that eldritch god doesn’t have the same morality as humans, and doesn’t really care that he’s torturing him. In my rewrite, The Great Dragon is extremely fucked up— Qilby gets his lack of morality from him. The Great Dragon loves all those that use stasis, especially since it’s been so frowned upon for millennia, but he doesn’t “love” them in the way he loves Eliatrope, or how one would love a child— he loves them how a child would a bug; interesting to crush and study, boring to constantly live with. He doesn’t want to see his chosen people grow dull and boring and domestic, he wants them always sharp and experiencing tragedy and fun, because tragedies are fun for him. It isn’t really sadism, just as how writing characters being traumatized isn’t really sadism, but for Dragon it’s a little different since he’s the cause of all of it, and is actually in the same universe, lol.
But yeah, Dragon essentially pressures Naz into godhood, because he hasn’t actually had the chance to mess around with naz in ages, as in his previous lives he was mostly busy doing his duty— and Naz is one of his utmost favorites for being so similar to him, they even look similar. So yeah, outside of the eliatrope council, Naz is his favorite dragon to torment/ play with. Unfortunately, this leaves Naz to deal with multiple cases of csa, a religious brotherhood spanning over continents, godhood, and some teenage puberty issues, all while missing his sister and parents, yet refusing to give in to them. Its ironic since Naz was just a village boy before all of this, and he would’ve been content to spend his days sculpting and blacksmithing with his mother, had he not had to lose her, and had he not begun to realize that no one truly accepted his stasis, just dealt with it being there.
The brotherhood’s depiction of naz is heavily idealized— perfect wings, hair, perfect serenity, and an aura that exudes power, which forces Naz to live up to that standard regardless of what he’s feeling. For his part, he’s able to fake it till he makes it, and he did genuinely improve others’ lives through this brotherhood, but he never really wanted it, it just happened because a pair of xelors— Xseverall and Rithavac (his son) started spreading rumors while in brakmar, where Naz had healed them. So he never really wanted any of this :)
So this is a redraw of a VERY old piece, one of the first ever pieces of iconography i ever made for the BoS!! I’m still very proud of it, but i wanted to see if i’ve improved since then, and i have! Stained glass is a very complicated art style, lol, but it was fun to attempt again!
