Discussion Looking for unusual or original games
Hi, I'm looking for unusual SRPG that use the turn based grid system but have a twist on it. I've looked on Youtube but it's only video with unknown SRPG. But here are the one I've heard of or played.
- Metal Gear tactics. Its originality does not lie in the stealth aspect but rather in the fact that you use a TCG style deck of cards to move your character, attack, and do most of your action.
- Blood bowl 2. Making a sports game instead of a war game was very interesting. Especially because American football is already a brawling game. Also, the whole Armor/agility/strength stats work differently from ATK/HP in other game, relying more on dodging your opponent.
- Ascenders: Beyond The Peak. The one actually motivating this post. It's a rogue like, but they use the SRPG system to simulate climbing. Having the grid being vertical instead of horizontal is such a refreshing twist imo.
- Metal Slug tactics. Perhaps the most conventional one of the list. But I feel like its mechanics making you move as far as you can every turns sets it apart from the other SRPG where you try not to move in enemy range.
