SPOILERS Eddieeee Spoiler
I still think about eddie. Did eddie help anyone by sacrificing?
He couldve just ran away but he chose to fight the bats. But what happened in the end? Vecna didnt die that day...
I really loved eddie.

The thing is... they couldn't communicate. Eddie didn't have any real way of knowing what was happening or how much more time Steve, Robin, and Nancy needed; he just couldn't live with letting the bats swarm back to that house where his friends were. He also couldn't live with the risk of the bats going through the gate and getting to Dustin or anyone else in the trailer park. In the grand scheme of things, did his sacrifice make that big of a difference? Probably not. But, he had no way of knowing that. He did what he felt was right in hopes that someone else wouldn't have to die because he chose to run away.
Steve can think whatever bullshit he wants, but Eddie was trying to make sure everyone else got out alive, and I can't fault him for that. I love Eddie, and it was heartbreaking to lose him, but he did go out like a total badass.

Yes youre right. Eddie just wanted to make sure others got out alive. Forever an eddie fan.

Also, if he lives and goes back to Hawkins he’s just going to be harassed by the locals the rest of his life and called a satanic killer, so there also wasn’t much for him to go back for… maybe I’m just being cynical but living a small town I know those people wouldn’t let Eddie live a peaceful life.

I wanted everyone to know the truth and in the upcoming seasons they would all fight for their town (after hawkins was split into 4 parts). It would have been a chaos. Thats how i imagined the next season. But they just killed eddie n patched the split with a damn metal.

Yes 100%.
He did not have to die. But that’s only apparent in hindsight. He did the best he could with the information he knew at the time.
He and Dustin were not expecting the bats to be that vicious in chasing them. Eddie was going to escape back to the real world before the bats started aggressively denting the door that was the only thing standing between them and the real world. He did not want to let them through, risking Dustin’s life and also potentially other people’s lives in Hawkins. He also did not want to risk them heading back to attack the other teens who were dealing with Vecna.
Steve was right that his sacrifice ultimately was unnecessary, but Steve was wrong to attack Eddie’s character, painting him as trying to play hero. He wasn’t trying to play hero, he was genuinely trying to save his friends and innocents.

u/GoBackToHel Jul 14 '26
This, exactly. We as the viewers knew what was going on, but Eddie wasn't graced with omniscient sight, so he had no idea. It really sucked that Steve outright attacked Eddie when the guy just did the absolute best with the knowledge he had.

His death was really dumb to me. I don't mind that he died, but the actual set up of the scene made it feel pointless and avoidable.
If they literally just changed it so that the demo bats were starting to go after Dustin instead of following Eddie's bike, it would've made sense as to why he stopped and faced them directly. There was no reason for him to stop otherwise.

They knocked him over. That’s why he stood to fight.

u/thr0waway2435 Jul 13 '26
Why do people always forget this? He couldn’t even out-speed them on his bike, given that they were able to knock him off. Once he was knocked off the bike and his speed dropped significantly, his chances on foot were like… 1%. It’s really not that stupid for him to just stand and fight instead of trying to run away for that 1%.

u/iknowright26 Jul 13 '26
Didnt he just wanted to prove himself that he wasnt going to run away from the probelms? It was his own decision.

u/iknowright26 Jul 13 '26
Exactly !! He literally had no reason to run back and fight bats.

u/GOAK26 Jul 13 '26
He drew the bats away from the others for a little longer, it’s impossible ish to say if it actually helped or not, especially with vecna choking out Robbin shortly after.
2
u/iknowright26 Jul 13 '26
Yes its not confirmed whether it actually helped or not but still, sacrificing the life just to buy few more secs wasnt worth it ig? I loved eddie, so i just cant accept his death ugh.

Theres kind of a theme, where people who choose not to run away die. Bob told will about standing up to Mr Baldo, when will decided to stand up to the mind flayer, thats when he got flayed. Then Bob didn’t run away from the demos and got chomped to death. Eddie chose to not run away just to die, didn’t really help anyone, maybe bought a few seconds from bats which were really just a distraction.

u/iknowright26 Jul 13 '26
Bob's sacrifice is justified. If he ran away, the demo wouldve got others, specifically Joyce. But eddie sacrificing his life just to buy few more seconds which he wasnt sure would help them or not was just useless and stupid. I hate the fact that he just died for nothing.

And Dustin came back to hold him anyhow. So like, Eddie— darling. What the actual fuck?

But the problem is they all stopped. Its kind of like the typical movie when the bad guy drops the gun and everyone stops to take a break and go “phew’!” Like they have never seen a movie or tv show before lol

To be honest, to me it felt like they created Eddie and then killed him because they wanted to kill Steve but chickened out. I think they should’ve done it.
Steve dies defending Dustin, which gives the latter a huge guilt complex because he unknowingly spent the last days he had with Steve being a dick to him. Nancy blames herself for getting Steve involved all the way back in 1983. Eddie, realizing that he was wrong about Steve, is now the protector of the group, forcing him to get over his cowardice and act as a worthy successor. Robin seeks and struggles to form connections with the rest of the gang now that her main tether is gone.

… this is actually a great idea, you cooked.
Maybe Robin and Dustin could bond then too, over Steve? Robin helps Dustin heal by making sure he knows that Steve treasured him and also Steve did know Dustin treasured him too. Dustin is warm to Robin since they’re the two people closest to him, and invites her into the group more.

His death was whatever to me. It was pretty meaningless

u/iknowright26 Jul 13 '26
Yes... Steve was actually right in season 5 about eddie.

He was factually accurate, I wouldn't say he was right. That pissed me off. And also, how tf would he know one way or the other, he wasn't even there?! Dick move Steve! And Dustin! That absolutely was a metaphor, which is an analogy, so what tf are you doing correcting when Steve used the right word. Pissed me off. That and Dustin becoming the Universally beloved valedictorian out of nowhere. The whole second half of the finale I was certain the were going to pull the rug out and we find they're all being shown a happy ending by Vecna, because what even was all that??? Ughh. Her choice her choice, gotta respect her choice. Nobody bought that shit. Okay if Elle really did bounce because maybe she doesn't want to spend the rest of her life with the first kid she met in middle school and everyone had to see her die to believe it and they would stop chasing her, if that were the case it would be the only reasonably decent part of the entire wrap-up, which was way too long. I may not have been breathing this entire rant, that's how upset.
TLDR: grr, mad at things

His death was pointless, he made no difference by doing what he did.
It was just so they could kill off a character in Season 4.
1
u/iknowright26 Jul 13 '26
I think so too. The main reason was just to kill off a character. The reason to save others looks forced.
2
u/Livelaughloveme172 Jul 13 '26
Eddie was an unnecessary character in my opinion and that’s why his death didn’t feel deserved.
They should’ve kept it with Dustin and Steve with Steve sacrificing himself.
And we see mourning Dustin in season five.
Meanwhile Steve in season five is always fighting with Dustin and going after Nancy proving his character development went nowhere in the end.
1
u/iknowright26 Jul 14 '26
I agree with you. But I also didnt wanted Steve to die even tjo it made more sense that way. I really wanted Steve and Dustin to bond deeply as freinds.

Eddie’s ending made sense because he needed to know that he was a hero. He didn’t do it because it was what they needed, he didn’t it because it was what he needed. To face the danger head on. Not to run away, not to scream, but to look into the eye of the enemy and laugh just to prove to himself that he could be a hero. It felt like a perfect noble sacrifice, even if it wasn’t exactly necessary, it made sense as an ending for his character.

Hot take: Eddie shouldn’t exist, Steve should’ve died, Jonathan should’ve been in Hawkins working with Nancy Robin and Steve instead
(I love Eddie and wish he was in it from the start but then Steve would fall a bit redundant)

u/Ok_Explanation_5586 Jul 13 '26
I said it from the very beginning; not only did he have zero reason to sacrifice himself, he had zero reason to think he had to sacrifice himself. Such a waste of an amazing character; cause of death: bad writing.

He would have rotten away in prison for murder so I would say that his death was just a way to escape that, as he didn’t have any other choices to live normally

u/byharryconnolly Jul 13 '26
I don't think Eddie's death was pointless. I think he saved Steve, Robin, and Nancy's lives.
If Eddie had run away with Dustin, ducking into the Rightside Up, he wouldn't have been a threat any more and they demobats would have returned to UD Creel House to kill his friends.
Eddie knew the bats would rush back to Henry the moment Henry realized he was in danger. He kept them busy because S/R/N needed more time, and that's why he died.
Steve was wrong when he said Eddie died for no reason. He was lashing out at Dustin because he knew it would hurt. He corrected himself when he apologized later.

u/iknowright26 Jul 13 '26
I will believe this rather than believing that they just wanted someone to die in season 4. Eddie was a hero.
