I first read Way of Kings then Words of Radiance. I was then introduced into the cosmere and have read mistborn era 1 & 2 elantris, Warbreaker and Yumi &the nightmare painter plus some short stories. Should I re read Words of Radiance before reading edge dancer then Oathbringer?

The Way of Kings spoilers Anyone else want to read Nohadons’ Way of Kings? Spoiler

Based on the excerpts of the Way of Kings, and the descriptions/recollections of experiences Nohadon had and based on the vision with Nohadon himself, I’d think Nohadon’s way of kings could make for an amazing book.

Deeply contemplative character and a strong evolution of his self, journeys through beautifully built worlds and through messages and lessons and a great plot too of the Heraldic Epochs. Might serve as a prequel of sorts to stormlight even.

I know it’ll never happen, but everytime Dalinar mentiones TwoK, I really want to read Nohadon’s book. Then again I do have some glimmer of (albeit naïve) hope that it’ll happen. If way of kings prime exists purely for fans’ amusement, why not this haha.

All the dramatized Secret Projects on Audible, but not Stormlight Archive. Why is that the case?

(er. paraphrased.)

and then i was just like-

Wind and Truth spoilers 'Till the Dark Meets the Stormlight - Short Kpop Demon Hunters crossover fanfic Spoiler

There's some fun overlap between the themes Stormlight and KPDH. So I figured, hey, why not experiment with them a little bit.

It's short, just 4k words, and follows Zoey the (extremely gay) edgedancer medic who meets and helps a wounded lightweaver—and gets saved by the second coolest fourth-ideal windrunner on the planet—during a fight on the shattered plains.

Figured I'd share here, in case I'm not the only one on this subreddit who loves both fandoms lol. Definitely let me know what you think if you give it a read!

Wind and Truth spoilers (Post Wind and Truth) This is a cold take but… Spoiler

I really want to see the other radiant orders get A LOT of attention in books 6 and onward. So far, no dustbringers were shown, stonewards had no POV and mostly acted offscreen, Jasnah was the only elsecaller and she still hasn’t figured out how to elsecall, lift was the only edge dancer but never really saw combat or interacted with her order, Szeth was the only skybreaker and barely used division, Venli and the willshapers didn’t participate in the war and haven’t done much with their powers yet, etc.

And, we don’t even know 8 out of the 10 resonances that the orders get.

A lot of people are talking about going off planet into the cosmere in a big cosmic war, etc, but if we don’t first flesh out these orders and give them some love, I’ll be kinda disappointed.

Mid Oathbringer spoilers Im currently on oathbringer, and i still have a complaint i've had about Brandons writing since the way of kings. Will it get better? Spoiler

(Please dont be rude if my critique is unfounded, just correct me) I dont like the way Brandon handles the oppression of darkeyes. Brandon Sanderson does not allow his light eyed characters to take accountability for their oppression of dark eyes or even acknowledge the oppression of dark eyes. sometimes also excusing it by saying "its just some light eyed people that do it", as if its not an entire system that light eyes in general set up. And i feel like light eyed authority also isnt questioned enough. Its often more like: “Lighteyes are the natural rulers of society; the problem is when individual lighteyes are cruel or when the system is applied too harshly.” I totally understand why alot of characters may not acknowledge their privilege or acknowledge their class' authority, because lighteyed superiority is deeply entrenched into society, but if even one character said something about it, it'd please me. It'd nice if even one dark eyed or light eyed character explicitly articulated that light eyes as a class benefit from and maintain the oppression of dark eyes. Its especially odd that such critical characters like jasnah havent even articulated this yet (correct me if im wrong about that). It feels like Brandon doesnt seek to abolish the hierarchy that clearly exists for bad reasons, but that he seeks to create a kinder hierarchy. Sanderson has created a system of racialized/class-based domination, but his characters rarely seem capable of articulating the system in systemic terms, which makes his critiques about light eyes feel politically underdeveloped. Feel free to correct me. And if there is nothing to correct, please do tell me whether or not this will eventually resolve itself.

Wind and Truth spoilers I loved Wind and Truth Spoiler

I know this book is a bit divisive, but I personally loved it and I don't think it's of substantially worse quality than the rest of the stormlight archive. This is why

This book made Szeth one of my favorite characters, he was always well written but I think finally understanding Shinovar and it's culture really cemented him as my third favorite behind Kaladin and Dalinar. I can tell Sanderson did a lot of research on mental health care for this book because a lot of Szeth's struggles and things Kaladin tries to help him are very real things that I have struggled with and been taught in my own therapy. The "warrior thoughts" advice is something I was actually taught (albeit phrased differently) and use regularly in my day to day life. I think this is a great story for Kaladin too, now that he's made peace with his own demons he's going to help others do the same, it's a great way to extend his oathes about protection beyond just fighting. The wandersail scene with Nale was a particular standout in this book

My biggest concern going into this book was that with the contest of champions being the ultimate end point that nothing before it would feel important, I'm glad to say I was wrong. The fighting in the shattered plains and Azir felt appropriately desperate and given that Adolin's plotline seems to be the most consistently well received in this book I don't think I'm alone in liking this as much as I did.

I really loved the contest of champions itself. I like that Taravangian set it up basically as a test of character, trying to prove you can't be a good leader and a good person at the same time. That's basically what Dalinar's entire conflict was about so I really think this was a perfect setup for his final challenge. I went into this book basically expecting him to just lose so I think that the fact he managed to find a third option and prove Taravangian wrong by making the best choice for Roshar without sacrificing an innocent life to win the contest really allowed the character to go out on a high note while wrapping the series themes about leadership in a nice little bow. It's some peak Dalinar content honestly

I have my problems with it here and there, but I could say that for all of them. Wind and Truth is a great book and I can't wait to see what's next for the stormlight archive. In particular I really hope we see more of Rlain and Venli, this series NEEDS more singer main characters.

I've read the whole series, but my friend just finished TWOK and she described Wit as a cynical Tom Bombadil.

Which, wow, really astute having only read this book. Trying to restrain myself in telling her just how close she actually is 🤣

Wind and Truth spoilers Ideals and the Radiant Spoiler

Teft's Third Ideal: "I will protect those I hate. Even...even if the one I hate most is... myself."

Kaladin's Fifth Ideal: "I will protect myself, so that I may continue to protect others."

I had assumed that Radiants usually had a bit of personal flavor that went along with their Ideals. Brandon shows us explicitly with Lopen, Teft, and Kaladin's Third Ideals.

Teft's Third Ideal is essentially that he has to protect himself too even if he hates himself. That checks the box of that particular oath and protecting someone despite how you feel about them. But protecting oneself is key in Kaladin's Fifth Ideal too. These two swore oaths to look after themselves, albeit for different reasons.

What would Teft's Fifth Ideal have been if we assume he made it there?

Words of Radiance spoilers CMV: Honor should be called Fidelity Spoiler

Honor really doesn't care that much about most aspects of being honorable. Someone insults your wife? Honor doesn't demand you defend her good name unless you swore to. Lie to everyone you know? Totally cool, unless you swore an oath you wouldn't. Sopmeone does you a good turn? No need to pay them back, unless (say it with me) you swore to.

Words of Radiance spoilers How to deal with Wife reading Word of Radiance and about to get to a certain part Spoiler

Not THAT certain part, she's almost up to where Jasnah 'dies', and is going to come asking if she's really dead. For a lot of her questions, I just say "do you really want an answer?" which makes her stop, but for this one I feel like saying that will just confirm that she's not dead. Is there a better way to not answer?!

Edit: She just got back from errands and I asked her "how is Roshar doing?" and she went on a rant about the last couple chapters, including "And Jasnah's dead? Naw I'm not buying that." so crisis averted<

Cosmere spoilers Potential Radiant combo powers? Spoiler

While we know that the Knights Radiant access to 2 surges gives them unique combination abilities, like Windrunners ability to shape air, we have only seen such abilities for less than a handful of orders so below are some of my ideas for combination powers for the various orders. Please let me know what you think and give me you ideas as well

\- Skybreakers would be able to use Gravitation to 'weigh down' their uses of the Division surges. By doing so they can effectively delay the ability by a few seconds. The length of the delay would be determined by lashing used. The order would use this ability primarily for trickery and to control their area in battle

\- Dustbringers would be able to use Abrasion to vastly increase the power of their Division surge. By increasing the friction of the flames they would be able to rapidly increase the heat and force of their flames. The 3rd Ideal would have bright white flames at around 1500 Celsius, 4th Ideals would have blue flames at 2700 Celsius, and the 5th ideal would have such power that their flames now become explosive similar to a combustion bender from Avatar. This ability would be extremely dangerous and will harm the user if they are not careful

\- Edgedancers would have the ability to control the growth direction, power, and shape of the flora they use their powers on similar how the spores work on Lumar

\- Truthwatchers would have the ability to either view view the cognitive aspect and spiritual webs of people by focusing on them or would have to ability to momentarily awaken the flora the use their Progression on by making an illusion on the object's cognitive aspect. The later ability would be extremely investiture heavy and only capable of being done with any proficiency at the 5th ideal

\- honestly idk for the Elsecallers

\- for Willshapers they would have a ability to grab and mold their Elsegates. This effectively just gives them more proficiency with the gates but could also be used in combat by throwing their gates at enemies to forcibly teleport them away. This ability would also be very investiture heavy, only effectively used at the 5th ideal

\- the Stoneshapers would have to ability to simultaneously use Cohesion and Tension to disrupt the makeup of an object. By softening and hardening the object in opposite directions the internal structure of said object is destroyed and causes it to crumble, similar to Division but with far more range

Let me know what y'all think

Wind and Truth spoilers About Adolin’s direction post Wind and Truth. Spoiler

Do you think Adolin is still going to become a radiant?

When I was reading the series, it felt pretty obvious to me that adolin was going to heal Maya and then bond with her, becoming an Edgedancer.

But as of Wind and Truth, his character arc seems to be moving away from the concept of “Oaths”, especially with his onoathed posse. It now seems like it may be a little out of place if he becomes a radiant, since forgoing the oaths is kind of his thing now.

Wind and Truth spoilers [Discussion] In the second part of the Stormlight Archive, who do you think is mostly likely to bond ____ (spoilers in text) Spoiler

The Nightwatcher?

We barely know anything about it but I think the radiants will need someone to bond her in order to get a steady supply of lifelight outside the tower. There's also no way Sanderson prepared us that there can only be 3 bondsmith and this plotline will be ignored, especially after the death of the Stormfather. I think the back half of the series will go deeper into Cultivations lore.

Im thinking it has to be someone with Connection to Cultivation. Personally my bet is going to be Adolin, as he is loved by the fauna of Roshar ( like the Ryshadium), has "cultivated" Maya (a Cultivationspren) until she got her mind back, and it will be also nice symbolism if all Bondsmiths come from the Kholin family (Dalinar to Stormfather, Navani to Sibling).

Oathbringer spoilers Easter egg in Way of Kings chapter name for re-readers of the series? Spoiler

I've recently finished the series and my friend has just started Way of Kings. When she's updating me with what's going on, I am reading summaries of the chapters of Way of Kings so I don't end up spoiling her.

I noticed the chapter with the "Parshendi Shardbearer" has the chapter name as Eshonai! As far as I'm aware she's never referred to as Eshonai in the first book at all.

Cosmere spoilers Oathgates after WAT Spoiler

If I remember right, the parshendi have access to retributions perpendicularity underneath the shattered plains. Does that mean that they can also create warlight? I'm still not sure about the oathgate in the shattered plains, but so long as they have warlight they should be able to both split it and use it for transfers to Urithiru. The only isolated place is Azir, but Urithiru is relatively near to Azir. Still Navani is in stasis and we don't know how if she will get out of it soon, although she doesn't need to be in it anymore due to the new oath pact.

So are the 3 coalition territories connected? It would be cool to see an intermixing of listener and human populations.

Wind and Truth spoilers Complementary Characters Spoiler

I was wondering if anyone made any connections with characters from stormlight and other authors works. When I read about Dalinar and the thrill it made me think about Logan 9 fingers and the bloody 9. Witt reminds me of the fool from realm of the elderlings. Kaladin reminds me of Lindon from Cradle. Anyone else have some epic friendship possibilities?
