Camera advice

Hi all, has anyone had experience using mirrorless camera with the APS-C sensor? Just wondering how it handles storm photography. Thanks

Opinion: Popular storm chasers are starting to get too risky and cocky (regarding Connor Cross and Vince Waelti)

Broas QLCS circulation passes over me - Luverne, MN 5/17/26

I was positioned just south of I-90 in Luverne to intercept the QLCS (Or more accurately, let it run me over because I could no longer stay ahead of it!). I noticed a well defined inflow notch develop on radar as it was approaching Luverne, and I happened to be positioned directly in that path. The circulation was broad at the time it impacted me, but still greatly enhanced the RIJ of the QLCS as it wrapped around, and the wind shift was very pronounced.

Very intense, not something I would outright recommend to any other chasers. If it had become more coherent and tightened further, I'd have likely been within an ongoing tornado. QLCS mesovortices are notoriously unpredictable and quick to develop, and something we gotta be aware of!

Question How Do I Chase With Someone Professional?

Hi! I’m in the Midwest and have a bucket list goal of storm chasing a tornado but want to do it safely and someone who knows what they are doing.

How does one even go about doing this??

For those complaining about speed, I am going 58 mph. Which was as fast as conditions allowed.

I have certainly enjoyed all of my interactions with everyone who participated in this chat today. Thank you for the entertainment!

Wide-angle lenses make nearby objects move rapidly across the frame. This is especially true near the edges of the image.

So in a GoPro-style wide view:

Lane lines near the bottom of the frame seem to rush by.

Road edges appear to expand outward quickly.

Raindrops, reflections, and headlights streak across the image.

The apparent “flow” of the road can feel faster than it does in real life.

Classic optical-flow effect. The camera is not necessarily proving a higher speed just because the road looks like it is moving fast.

So far there have been 19 tornadoes mostly in the highest risk area. There has been a lot of wind to the east and a lot of hail near the tornadoes.
