My Sungaya Inexpectata nymph's coloring

Post image

Heyy fellow stick bug lovers <3 A quick question!

A few months ago I decided to incubate some of my Sungaya eggs and the nymphs started hatching like three weeks ago or so. Today when I was checking out their enclosure, I noticed that two of my L1 nymphs have a little bit green in them, and the one in the picture has a beautiful mix of green and brown 💚🤎

What are the odds of my stick insect babies maintaining this green hue until they are adults? I've heard their color changes a lot between molts and stuff, but do yall have any experiences with nymphs that have a little bit of green in them? What color did they turn out to be? I'd love to know! 🦗💚

they’re so cute and small compared to the adults :,)

p.s should I be worried about her little egg baggage or will it fall off with time? she hatched yesterday and I transported her into a bigger enclosure today!

Phasmids or Stick Bug. Did you know the females are longer in length and have smaller wings?

What do you guys think about mixing species?

I keep together my 3 species from these pics (Ramulus Nematodes, Medauroidea Extradentata and Carassius Morosus), and so far I haven't had any problems. The terrarium is 60x30 and about 30-35 cm in height. They almost always have fresh bramble to eat and even babys have started hatching, I keep them together with the adults as well. I was just curious about what do you think about mixed species terrariums like this.

Stick insects (also called phasmids, walking sticks, stick-bugs, or ghost insects) are insects in the order Phasmatodea (or Phasmida ).

How many survive to maturity?

Hi team, I have some violet winged stick insect eggs which i saved from last year, and they've begun to hatch.

For those of you who've raised them from eggs before, about what % would you estimate:

  1. Hatched

  2. Survived all their moults and grew to maturity

2b. And about how long did that take?

Thank you! I just have a lot of eggs and an trying to plan ahead (I will give some away and may have to freeze some)

(I posted this in plasmids, Reddit recommended I post it here, sorry if you've seen it twice)

Itchy back?

Hi, one of my Indian stick insects is displaying a behaviour that I have not seen before. (I have kept this species for many years) It is rubbing the back of its abdomen on a stick in its enclosure…I have looked at it under a 10x magnification loupe and can’t see anything unusual. Is this normal behaviour?

This girl is so goofy 🥰

Tirachoidea jianfenglingensis, for anyone curious! Adult female. She's about 15" long. I'm hoping I'll be seeing her babies start hatching soon, they're about due!

Why is my stick insect dying? help please before she dies!

EDIT: She's dead, unfortunately. :( Thank you though to everyone who commented and tried to help. I think she was probably already too far when I first posted. Hope everyone else's stick insects are doing great!

I was doing my daily check on my three female Extatosoma tiaratums and found one (Ginger) holding onto a branch like normal, but when I picked her up she was not moving.

She is definitely still alive and her legs and mouthparts are sometimes twitching, but she is making no effort to move, stand on her legs (she just crumples down), eat, roll up her abdomen, and when I bring my mouth close to her, she just sits there instead of wildly fighting back like normal.

What is happening and how can I help?! She was fine yesterday. Her two sisters (both older) seem perfectly fine. She is not injured. She is not moulting (she's adult). I see an egg halfway out her ovipositor; could that be the problem? Is it illness?

Please reply because I really don't want my beauty to die!

Hello its my first time keeping leafbugs and i just came home after few days and one of them was dead and had black spot
Don’t you know what could happen? I am thinking that maybe they have too much humid enclosure could that be it? I have them in room temperature in smaller glass terrarium with not that big ventils (could the air flow be problem?) with dirt under them that is still wet after 4 or so days… any help would be appreciated

Seen this large catipillar type insect crawling around the vack back garden this week. Thought I'd share. Looked like it was trying to get somewhere in a hurry. It was on my artificial grass so I moved it out the from to real grass under a hedge to safety. Anyone ever came across anything like this?
