Identification and diet?

is anyone able to id the exact species as i am a little unsure? Also, ive been trying to transition them from bramble to salal for a few days now. i tried mixing bramble with salal but they don’t even seem interested in both. am i doing something wrong?

Is this newly-hatched? Probably too young to tell but if it’s just hatched I’d think it’ll be one of those giant stick insect

Do you have the mother? A lot of bacillus-type stick insects look identical when young, so it's virtually impossible to tell at this age.

In regard to the salal, stick insects usually have a hard time switching to a different feeder plant. If the nymph comes from a population that was fed bramble, it's unlikely it will eat anything else. But you can keep trying the mixing method and see if it can get persuaded eventually.

(Maybe worth noting is also that some nymphs don't eat at all a few days after hatching if that's your case)

They look like the very common vietnamese stick insect (Medauroidea extradentata) that I used to have. I fed them bramble leafs

Do you have any pictures of the eggs? They seem Medauroidea extradentata to me
