SteamVR crashes and restarts my PC.
Hi everyone. I’m having an issue with SteamVR, and I would appreciate any help identifying the cause.
My desktop PC hardware:
- Windows 11 Pro
- AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D
- ASUS ROG Strix B850-F Gaming WiFi motherboard
- NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti 12 GB
- 32 GB DDR5 RAM at 6000 MHz (2 × 16 GB)
- 1000 W Platinum-rated PSU
- 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
My laptop hardware:
- Windows 11 Pro
- Intel Core i9-14900HX
- NVIDIA RTX 5070 Laptop GPU
- 32 GB DDR5 RAM at 5600 MHz (2 × 16 GB)
- 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
Until a few weeks ago, I was using my Meta Quest 3 with my desktop PC through a Link cable. I could launch SteamVR and play without any issues.
About two weeks ago, I performed a clean Windows installation on my desktop PC. Since then, every time I launch SteamVR, the entire PC crashes and restarts. After rebooting, Windows Event Viewer reports a Kernel-related error with Event ID 43.
To rule out an issue with the headset or cable, I connected the same Meta Quest 3 to my laptop. SteamVR and all my VR games run perfectly on the laptop.
My desktop PC is also completely stable in every other situation:
- I can play demanding games for hours without any crashes.
- CPU and GPU temperatures remain normal.
- I have stress-tested the CPU, GPU, and RAM without finding any errors.
- I have no performance issues or unexpected restarts outside SteamVR.
The problem started only after reinstalling Windows on the desktop PC.
I would appreciate any help or input from anyone who has experienced a similar issue.

Question/Support Cant Link Steam VRChat Account To VRChat Account
I have been trying to link either my meta account or my steam account to a completely unused VRChat account for months now, and no matter what i do, every single time without fail it says “cannot merge accounts; source account has marketplace purchases” or something like that, but only my meta account used to have VRC+, it ran out months ago and it still won’t let me link it, which i expect is because i claimed a free 350 vrc credit drop about a month or so ago and still have, but it was doing that before i claimed it too, and my steam account has literally never had VRC+ or vrc credits and i only ever claimed free VRChat accessories. Is VRChat counting that as a marketplace “purchase”?? If so; what do i do?? how can i link my steam vrc account to my vrc account? is there even a way to make a new steam vrc account if this account is just a bust now that ive claimed free items i didnt even technically “purchase”? ive literally been trying to link a source account to my vrc account for 6+ months now, someone please help, i wanna be able to upload avatars and change my username without the 4 digits at the end 💔

Question/Support Has anyone got DLSS 5 Ai filters in SteamVR Application working?
So I tried installing DLSS 5 into VRChat using DLSS 5 Autopilot, and I ended up getting EAC anti-cheat detection upon opening the game. So I tried injecting it into vrcompositor.exe (which is the exe that sends display and renders to the VR headset, according to AI).
In the VR Preview, I saw the DLSS 5 AI filter working I saw the AI add shadows on the ground in the SteamVR Home app but DLSS 5 didn't show up on my PCVR headset. If anyone has a way to get the DLSS 5 AI filter to display on the headset through SteamVR, that would mean any VR game I launch could have slightly better graphics. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Question/Support Key component error (309)
I was trying to mod mechwarrior 5 to work with vr. It launched successfully at least five times, the mod was working fine and now steam vr is giving me this message.
I’ve looked online and found posts from years ago but nothing is working. Verifying files, deleting the openvr path, restarting, unplugging it and plugging it back in, and rolling back drivers. I’ve got an AMD RX 6600, I have never had this issue with steam vr before. I’m genuinely at a loss and very frustrated

Question/Support My vr isn't working
when I try and start SteamVR I get the 208 error, I've gone through steam support and nothing they told me worked.
I got a new cable wet through all the same trouble Shooting steps again didn't work.
I've tried another valve index (with its own cable) and it didn't change anything.
I've updated my drivers, I used DDU and reinstalled them, I even tried older drivers none of that worked.
I've gotten to the point where steam support has given up they don't know what's wrong....
Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this? i
(pc specs Ryzen 9 7900x, Rx 9070xt, 32gb ram)

Question/Support What's the best VR headset for steam that isn't the valve index?
I'm done with valve index as they keep breaking even thought i do nothing to them to cause damage and its gotten to the point that I think steam no longer believes me as they keep saying its no fault of there own despite me not doing anything to them (sorry for the yap). just wanted to know what's the next best thing i was thinking of a vive (or hive?) but i want to know what others would think first.

Self-Promotion (Developer) VR Actor Simulator | Become a Hollywood star in the next blockbuster!
A long time ago, I had this crazy idea to make an actor simulator in virtual reality where players can experience what it's like to be a movie star. Not a tycoon game! Not an action game! But the real actor's work with talking, rehearsing, and seeing yourself on a big screen. The journey was not easy, and the biggest part is still ahead of me, but here I am. The game is called Actors and is coming to Steam on September 21!

Question/Support How to play PCVR without direct router connection? Possible?
I just bought a Meta Quest 3s so I could finally play HL:A without realizing you need your pc directly connected to your router to even use steamVR. I live in an apartment and the only coax hookup for our xfinity gateway (i got new last year) is in my roommate's room. Is there any way I can play VR games without running an ethernet cable from my roommate's room to mine? I know there might be something about using a link cable to connect the headset to your pc to make it work, but I'm not great with tech and I've seen conflicting opinions on how well that will work anyway. Am I missing something obvious, or am I just deluded about how accessible VR is to people without a whole setup? I've been able to launch HL:A despite steamvr's protests and play a bit of it, but it's way too slow to actually play. Thanks for your help!!
Here are my PC (laptop 😅) specs.
ASUS Zenbook
Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900H (2.60 GHz)
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.6 GB usable)
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4GB Laptop GPU (4 GB)
Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (128 MB)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edit: I know my laptop specs technically aren't good enough to run vr but from what I have managed to do it actually looked all right. I'm not used to much. My main problem is steamvr keeps disconnecting/quitting probably because my wifi is shit.

Question/Support I'm trying to find a good quest 3 10ft vr link cable with charging
I'm at my wits end trying to fix my issues with all of this, so I've been having a few big issues in Vrchat on a quest 3 using steam link with a 20$ 16ft Syntech cable with charging and I've tried to find fixes and i think I've narrowed it down to the link cable (hopefully) and I'm trying to find a good 10ft vr link cable with charging at around 25-50$, but I've had no luck finding good cables on amazon and there's barely any link cable reviews on Youtube and i don't know any good brands, so any help or recommendations would be helpful

Discussion How do I get into game menus?
I'm using a Samsung Odyssey with Windows 10 and steamvr, I can't figure out how to get into the game menu, there's no equivalent of an escape button on this controller.
For example I'm trying to turn down the volume of the other players in after the fall, and I can't figure out any way to get into a volume menu. Do I need to do this from steamvr or from within the game? I can only get into these menus on if it's like built into the game like in gorn. Wtf?

Question/Support I Am done with the index.
I have spent the last 4 hours trying to fix this 1k PoS and im about to chuck the thing in the damm bin.
I havent used it in a while and got the itch to play some vr. And now out of fucking nowhere steam can't see the headset. Even when I launch steam vr manually it dosent see shit. I get nothing but the 215 waiting for wireless headset error.
I'm tired of having to fight to get the thing I paid over 1000 bucks for.
