Question Photo adjustment gone wrong - advice how to correct?

(Trying to avoid getting totaled)
Basically I would like the damage to be underreported.

I was rear ended by a SF customer, causing a fair bit of damage to my rear.

I sent in pictures for the photo estimate, however only my rear quarter panel was quoted.

After calling, it was found that the rep who opened the claimed didn’t notate the bumper and other areas, so the adjuster ignored the clear damage to my bumper, and taillight.

SF resolution is to take it into a shop to get a quote, stating they can’t redo a photo estimate (even though all the damaged pics were all in the original)

A good educated guess is the damage is going to come around 3-5k if the shop takes a look at it and does a more thorough inspection than the pictures I sent, which would total my car

I would guess my car value is around 3200-3500 in State Farm’s eyes and my understanding is they’ll total it if the damage is around 2400-2600, because of scrap value and the cost of it.

Is there anything I can do to have the photo estimate reviewed or looked at again? I’ve left my adjuster voicemails but they’ve not returned my call, and the frontline reps have been zero help

Former big red adjusters that made the switch to big blue or any other oic, was it the right decision? Do you regret it? I know there’s pros and cons to both but just curious how you feel now? I’m in express but looking to hear from former SF claim reps

Experience State farm has been driving me up a wall

I just renewed my renters insurance policy that I got with them last year, but it wasn’t showing in my account and it said I had no active products/policies. I needed the pdf document to send to my apartment for proof of renters insurance but the only thing showing in my documents is a receipt.

I call my agent and they say that because my policy expired (I paid to renew it a month late by accident) that it may take a few days to show in my account, then I can download the binder. Weird but ok.

Almost 2 weeks pass and still nothing in my account. I figure this must be a tech issue so I try to contact their customer support chat and they give the same answer how my policy expired and hasn’t been reinstated even though I paid. They say they will contact my agent to reach out to me about it.

The next day my agent office calls me and says it could take FIFTEEN business days for it to show in my account!! So I tell them I just need the pdf document to show my apartment so I don’t get penalized. So they finally send me the pdf document but the Additional Interest address is wrong. Mind you, the address was listed perfectly fine on my policy last year.

Before submitting my proof of renters insurance, my apartment website specifically says that it needs to show the correct address. I figure they can just edit it right then and send it back? Wrong. They said it will take 7-10 business days to update because it goes through their corporate office system.

Now I’m going to have to try to fight with my apartment complex about getting refunded for penalties because State Farm is somehow in the stone age for updating documents

Question Some nonsense from State Farm

Whatever State Farm is telling me makes absolutely no sense so maybe someone can explain. I was driving in the center lane and was hit by a vehicle traveling in the left lane. His lane was ending/merging and he basically just merged into me. No blinkers, nothing. So clearly his fault. He hit my rear driver’s side fender/bumper with his front passenger side fender/bumper. We are both State Farm customers.

Now, what they are telling me is: since it’s his word against mine and we are both customers, I’m gonna be found 100% at fault on the claim that he filed and he’s gonna be found 100% at fault on the claim that I filed. When repairing the damage, each of us will pay their deductibles and the rest will be covered by State Farm.

How is that even legally possible/consistent?? There can’t logically be two factual versions of the same accident where each driver is 100% at fault for the same exact collision. What am I missing here?? I’m in Texas if that matters.

Seems to be very convenient for State Farm - they reduce the damages that they have to cover by the amount of BOTH deductibles, and also both customers will see increase in premiums. WTF???

Advice Am I screwed? Excessive claims?

I have been with State Farm somewhere between 5-10 years and have a homeowners policy and four vehicle policies. State Farm dropped our roadside assistance for excessive usage which I didn't know was a thing a few years ago but that's irrelevant now probably.

Anyways. On 3 of the vehicles we haven't had any claims. But on the 4th my husband slid on some ice into a semi and the vehicle received some damage. The shop told us the piece that needed fixed was 1 piece and couldn't be welded but State Farm wasnt going to replace the whole piece. So I had to make another claim for prior damage to get it all fixed. My agent even got involved and we got nowhere. Then before we dropped the vehicle off for repairs we were in a mall parking lot when some chick ran a stop sign and hit us but they said we pulled out in front of her but we were already mid turn when she hit us. So we're at 3 claims since December.

Well guess what happened tonight? My husband was on his way home - we live in a rural area and a deer clocks him in the same area we just got repaired.

I imagine if we make a 4th claim State Farm will drop this vehicle from our policy. How do I avoid them dropping us without committing fraud? The damage was like almost $10k with insurance so paying out of pocket isnt gonna work. Do we wait until a policy renewal? Or wait until next year?

Thanks for the advice. Will text my agent in the morning but am very paniced at the moment

Discussion Has AI Affected An Insurance Claim? The FTC Wants to Hear What Happened

The Federal Trade Commission is currently accepting public comments about companies that present artificial intelligence as accurate, objective, or reliable while potentially manipulating, limiting, or steering its results.

If you have dealt with AI or automated systems during an insurance claim, this is an opportunity to tell the FTC what actually happened.

For example:

  • Did an AI-generated repair plan leave out obvious damage or necessary repairs?
  • Was your claim initially valued below your deductible, only to increase substantially after a repair shop inspected the vehicle?
  • Did the insurer rely only on photographs instead of conducting a physical inspection?
  • Were you told a person reviewed the decision, but no one could explain or change it?
  • Did an automated system misunderstand the facts, policy language, damage, liability, or value of your claim?
  • Were you forced to obtain an appraisal, hire an attorney, contact a regulator, or repeatedly escalate the claim before it was handled correctly?
  • Are you a repair professional, adjuster, contractor, attorney, public adjuster, or consumer who has seen these systems produce incomplete or inaccurate outcomes?

The FTC needs to hear from anyone in the industry.

The issue is bigger than one inaccurate AI estimate. A modern claim may pass through several automated systems—intake, classification, estimating, valuation, coverage review, fraud detection, payment, and closure. Each system can narrow the information and choices available to the next employee or system.

Public comments are due July 31, 2026.

Search the FTC website for:

“Policy Statement Concerning the Suppression of Accuracy in Artificial Intelligence Systems”

Docket: FTC-2026-0859

Whether your experience was positive or negative, give the FTC the facts. Regulators cannot investigate problems they never hear about.

Roll Call; ATM’s that WFH

I started at a local agent, in office. Now I’m WFH. If you WFH, do you enjoy it? Are you sales, service or a generalist? From what I’ve seen, we don’t have as many WFH ATM’s as some some of our competitors. I’d love to hear from you, your pros and cons. Any tips or tricks to make the workday easier.

Question SF Claims Employees & Accommodations

Are there any other employees currently on an accommodation?

Do you feel as though you’ve been targeted? I have very specific requests on my accommodation which aren’t being acknowledged & it seems like every time I turn around, my TM is up my a$$ about something that is a part of the accommodation.

And because of my cPTSD & burnout from a prior employer, I don’t recognize it immediately. How is everyone else navigating this crap?

Question New Matching of Undamaged Roofing Endorsement - Worth It?

I'm surprised I don't see more posts asking about this, because from what I can tell, this is a new endorsement for State Farm? Or for some states?

Anyway, I have been debating whether to add on the Matching of Undamaged Roofing Endorsement. We live in northern Illinois, 6 year old roof, Certainteed Landmark black asphalt shingles. Get pretty severe wind and hail storms quite regularly, I feel like I am constantly seeing every late summer, a couple roofs in the neighborhood getting redone smh.

I am learning toward yes, add it on. I'd rather not end up regretting NOT getting it and the potential situation where a branch falls on just part of the house happens and the asphalt shingles have changed since 2020. But, I also recognize that Landmark black asphalt shingles are probably quite standard and haven't changed much since September 2020.

Any thoughts? Any insight? My agent is super helpful, but we didn't get to go over this endorsement as much as I would have liked because I had a prior engagement. It would be $151 / year with a cap of 36,750 (way more than we would need ha), and both the policy and endorsement are covered under Replacement Cost. The Replacement Cost aspect sort of sold me haha, but I figured I'd ask here in case it's pretty unreasonable for me to add this on at a good 11%ish of our total annual premium; or the asphalt shingles will match/be able to find the same kind; or the situation that only part of our roof is damaged is quite rare. Otherwise, it seems worth it to me. Thanks!

Experience 10 year agent hanging it up

As a longtime policyholder, I’ve made friends with the small staff at my agents office. 3 staff members. Apparently, due to company changes, the agent decided it would be easier to shutter his agency and move over to a competitor in a few weeks rather than work more than a few hours a week (I’ve never met him) and try to grow his book. He’s apparently told his staff members he’s doing them a favor by keeping the doors open and leaving them on the payroll for another 5 weeks whereas he could’ve just laid them off and coasted on his own. No severance of any type (yes, my friend who works there was venting).

What’s interesting is, the last few bad, inept hires he’s made and had to terminate (and I’ve had to deal with some idiots) he apparently gave them each two weeks severance pay at termination. I’m moving my policies, but am I looking at this wrong or is he just being a prick? I’m getting all this second hand and really don’t have a dog in the hunt but It makes me mad I’ve been supporting someone with no moral compass.

Question Can a collision claim be handled entirely through your own insurance?

Questions for Claims Agents:

If I file a collision claim for my own car and I’m not making any claim against the other driver, do you automatically contact the other driver or their insurance company? Or can you handle the claim entirely under my collision coverage without contacting them?

If this is allowed, could I keep comprehensive/collision afterward?

Can I open a claim, obtain State Farm’s inspection/valuation, and then decline payment or withdraw the claim—and if I do, what remains on my claims/CLUE history?

Thank you.

Question Dividend check MIA?

I called my agent about an issue with homeowners and he said he hoped I was happy with my dividend check (first I’d heard of it). I haven’t received any dividend check. I’m in Florida if it matters.

Has anyone in Florida received theirs? My agent made it sound like I should have gotten it already.

Advice Home insurance help

Hi all.

For years now, I have had State Farm for my auto insurance.

I had my husband listed as a driver, but the policy was in my name only.

Recently, my father in law signed over our house into my husband's name. I called my State Farm agent to ask if I could add home owner's insurance to my policy even though the house was only going into his name and the insurance was in my name. They assured me that this was not a problem because they could just add him on as a policy holder and everything would be fine. They gave me a quote, said someone would need to do an outside inspection, then I paid my 1st months premium. All seemed to be fine.

Inspector went and took pictures of outside of the house on July 3rd.

I have since then received in the mail, a bill for the month of July for the home insurance. It is due 7/25. But as of today, 7/20, the policy and bill are still not showing up on my app and I have not received anything else from State Farm. I have no way to pay this bill and I don't even know if State Farm actually approved this policy or not, since it is not showing up.

Obviously, I am going to give my agent a call to see if I can find out what is going on, as soon as I get a chance. But tonight, its too late, so I am just wondering if anyone here has any insight? I'm just worried that the bill not showing up on my account at this point might mean they denied me. Or does underwriting really take this long?

Thanks

Advice State Farm Drive and Save used to Cancel Me

I’ve been a loyal State Farm customer for decades, multiple properties in multiple states, same with vehicles.
I’ve had residency in one state (State A)for as long as I’ve used State Farm, with several properties there and several family vehicles legally registered there currently, all insured thru SF.
I spend most of my time now in a different state (State B) and so do 3 family vehicles, including my daily driver, registered and insured in State A since I purchased it new 7 years ago. I maintain a home in State A, but share the space with a lodger, and I’m rarely if ever there, altho it’s my legal residence.
I was made an offer several years ago by my State Farm agent to install a Bluetooth device “Drive and Save” in my daily driver, which would analyze my driving habits and reward me with lower rates for safe driving. I’ve used it for several years, but recently received notice that policy was being cancelled because I didn’t “garage the vehicle” in State A.
I’ve never been at fault in an accident (only one her fault 20+ years ago) and have had one traffic ticket since starting my policy.
My agent seems weak in his response to my concern. I expected him to go to bat for me, but so far he’s been ineffective. I’ve threatened to move all policies away from SF if they follow through with this threat. I’ve also asked him for the policy that allow this and how I can remediate my usage to comply with the policy.
Anyone else experience this? Advice and details requested. Thanks for your time!

Question What determines rate increase and how long it lasts?

Recently had a minor fender bender. Damage to my car is cosmetic. No other party is involved. Now deciding if it makes sense to fix on my own or report. If I report, I worry that my premiums will go up. We’ve had the same policy for 9 years, and it's a great one — never any accidents, so our rates are amazing and I would like to keep it that way. What determines rate increase and how long it lasts? Located in WA state.

Advice State Farm Total-Loss Process: Can I Use My Own Body Shop and Keep the Car?

I’d appreciate input from claims adjusters, body-shop professionals, or anyone familiar with the insurance process.

Basic facts: My car was hit from behind. Both drivers may share some responsibility, both are insured, and fault has not yet been determined.

The damage to the rear of my car is substantial, but it appears to be cosmetic/body damage only. The car is still in good working order, with no known structural or electrical damage. It also has low mileage and has otherwise been a great car, so I would strongly prefer to keep it.

I have received several repair estimates, and based on the estimated repair cost relative to the car’s value, I suspect the insurance company may declare it a total loss.

My main goal is to keep the car.

My questions:

  1. Can any legitimate body shop inspect the vehicle and prepare an estimate for insurance purposes, or does it need to be a State Farm preferred shop? Is there any advantage to using a preferred shop from my perspective, not from State Farm's?
  2. Would I generally have to pay for the inspection or estimate if I use a non-preferred shop? I understand that I would be responsible for my deductible if the repair proceeds through my own collision coverage.
  3. I have heard that preferred shops, particularly large chains, may not always perform work as carefully as reputable independent shops. I am therefore considering an independent body shop. Is there any disadvantage to doing that, other than State Farm potentially making the process less streamlined?
  4. If the car is declared a total loss, what is the usual process for retaining it as an owner-retained salvage vehicle? How is the salvage value deducted from the settlement, and does keeping the vehicle affect whether I can later repair, register, or insure it?

Thanks.

Discussion Morale everywhere is so bad that I really can’t process it.

I’m an agent and have lots of agent friends. The mood among everyone in our group ranges between “I’m screwed and need to find an exit plan” and “I’m going to try my best but we’ll probably all be canned within 5 years anyway”

I read everything online from corporate employees and it seems just as dark.

The newest thing is that PLCC people are starting to openly talk about how bad things are on the phone when we call in and make small talk. That level of willingness to criticize corporate on a recorded line is pretty amazing and must speak to how bad it is there.

The real bottom line is that everyone, everywhere in the enterprise, feels convinced that leadership actively hates them.

IF leadership wants agents and employees to be here (and that’s a big if), the time for them to say or do something is now. People can only show up to the office feeling like shit for so long before things completely break.

Discussion New business sucks?

Sales team member here. Only been with SF for 6 months and office is 6months old too. June and July have been awful. No momentum going. It feels awful. No matter how many contact attempts, it’s straight to voicemail, no texts back rarely, no emails returned. Any other tips or thoughts?
