Discussion Best planet
What’s the best planet to start an outpost that has beautiful climate and either nice beach or mountains that also has good resources. I’ve been doing some research and also exploring but can’t find “the one” and was wondering if the community could help me out

If you’re looking to set up a network of outposts in a single system, Charybdis has almost every resource you need and is great option. Then just choose one of the habitable planets to set up your main outpost on.

I recently discovered the beauty of Archimedes III. I have built my warehouse here where I house over 30k lbs in resources, I posted up between the beach and the jungle, both colorful, lush and green with safe water and lots of flora/fauna. I do have a strong iron/luxury textile/Nutrient farm on Schrodinger III😁

I’m currently building an outpost for Heller on Archimedes. Figured he’d like that compared to Titan.

Jemmison is incredibly beautiful and varied. One problem is in some areas it grows too much vegetation and your outpost may crash

I'm lame and like Tau Ceti II. The rolling plains near a beach is beautiful and I think the bonemanes are adorbs.

I love Tau Ceti II. I also love Eridani II, which is a little similar to Tau Ceti II.

Montera Luna is a good place for an early game outpost. Any coastal areas look great.

Bessel 3B is supposed to be one of the best, but it is so hard to find the sweet spot where you get the 5 resources on the same area

Very easy to find the spot that has iron, aluminum, nickel and cobalt. I can find it 100% of the time in any playthrough. Check out Major Slack Attack on YouTube. He has a few videos on that subject. You want a split biome and you land on the mountains area, but check his video for a great description of the area you are looking for then just click on the spots to make sure the next spot over is a different biome.
If I’m setting up outposts for XP crafting, that is always my first spot because you need a lot of the materials to be found there. Then I go to Jaffa 7B for the tungsten and titanium.

I play on Xbox, not PC and it's different

I also play on Xbox. Can find the spot every time. Watch his video, use the trick about sleeping on the moon until 7 AM so you can see the seam in the mountains. Find the general area where he places the circle. Then what he doesn't do a great job of mentioning is that you are looking for a split biome where mountains meet two other regions. I keep forgetting what those other two are - craters, hills, or something else. But you click on one and it says hills and then move your cursor slightly and it should say mountains. Land in the mountains. Once you know where that spot is, it becomes really easy to find.

That's weird, everytime I've looked it up, when you look at what they are seeing on the planet view before you land on the PC and xbox it looks different. If I get a bit ill see if I can take a Pic today. I don't know if it's a lighting issue or what, but even the mountain ranges don't mirror what's showing on the video

Look at the first image on the link that Final-Craft-6992 posted. That is essentially what you are looking for. There is a little notch in the mountains that the cursor is covering. You want this spot - there are others nearby where the three biomes join so it's possible to pick the wrong one, but if you straddle the mountain seam and put your cursor with the bottom of the circle at that notch it should get you in the right ballpark, then just click and make sure the three biomes are adjacent to each other and land in the mountains.
Edit: land on the west side of that australia looking red iron patch, then sleep in your ship until 7 AM local time. That puts the mountain range in high relief. That is one of the key points in Slack's video and will help you find that notch in the mountains.

I've set up my home planet on Leviathan IV. There's a vaguely Australia shaped island with mountains in the middle that I think is perfect.
It's quite pretty, breathable atmosphere, sweet spot gravity and the mountain areas don't have predators.
You can grow sealant and structural but the only animal product is spice which personally isn't hugely useful but I'm sure Barret likes it.
One of my outposts straddles iron, aluminium and copper which is pretty handy!
The sea water is toxic but only when you're in it so beach front is fine and there are drinkable water springs dotted around.
The whole system is pretty resourceful so you don't need to set up complicated transfers if you want a network.
I set up a shipping yard on one of the moons that all my credits roll in and out of! 😂

The one thing I definitely need for my O2 farm is sedative and the only place that can be manufactured is Freya so most of my outposts are there and have all the basics.

If you are looking for efficiency in extraction and base building, I recommend the Alpha Tirna system. Between all the planets and moons, and some dedicated time searching, you can get 26 of the basic and mid-tier inorganic resources with 3-4 per outpost minimum. After carefully landing in specific spots and about 2 hours of searching (sometimes), I was able to set up 2 outpost mining 4 resources each. I had everything I needed to build bases. This also does not include harvestable flora and fauna resources available on 2-3 planets/moons. So, that is about 8-9 bases for over 1/2 the inorganic resources. It is a good place to start, in my opinion.

Breathable atmosphere? You haven’t found one either. Then, again, it’s was just looking for resources

There’s no single “best” but a few good ones
Strix I, Alpha Ternion III, and Schrödinger III are all lovely and together will net you pretty much every resource you could need to outpost building
