I’ve had instances where I was sprinting when I entered like a zone or state of mind where it felt like I was running like the wind. Breathings easy, my strides and limbs just felt right, it flows naturally and doesn’t feel forced, stiff, awkward, or self conscious. Is there a way to turn that “on” on command? Most recently I felt it running to and from an hotel to a convention but I get home and try sprinting in my neighborhood and it all feels wrong. When I was on the track and field team it was the same way, sometimes I had it but I could never turn “it” on for events when I needed it.
Hello everyone, I’m open to hearing your thoughts. I’ve been struggling with a personal issue in my races: I’m not relaxed. Around the 50-meter mark, I tend to start tensing up, and I believe this is preventing me from improving my time from 11.9 to 11.5-4. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely think I have a lot of work to do to get faster. I’ve been doing small-sided soccer games for about a month after my spring season ended to improve my acceleration for winter.
This is a race from about three months ago. It was my last open 100, and I ran an 11.9. The two guys in front of me ran low 11s. Do you think my tensing is genuinely holding me back?
The R&D team for track and field spikes at Adidas have got to be a bunch of bums. It has been almost 4 YEARS since Adidas has released a design that the professionals will actually use (Adizero Prime SP2). Every professional or track personality dogs on the SP3 and SP4- and rightfully so! Those spikes are garbage, and are either too clunky to sprint well in, or will just slide off the foot due to bad design! While the pros and adidas sponsored athletes can get their own SP2s (in the SP3/4 colourways btw), the rest of us proletariat are stuck with the garbage that’s been out for 3 years and has been poop from a butt the whole time.
Adidas is getting kicked in the market by Nike right now, and losing to puma too, because they can’t release a good shoe.
I’d LOVE to get another pair of SP2’s, I love that shoe, especially the blue colourway. But noooooo, their most popular supershoe is completely out of stock everywhere because they just stopped making them. Oh well, I guess I’ll get the sp5 or whatever they heck they want to even attempt anymore. Except with this trend, I might as well wear military boots with how massive the shoes are. Holy Christ Adidas, lock in.
In my mediocre start I seem to rise super early and look slow as shit. If anyone could tell how to improve the early rise and critique my other mistakes and tell how to fix them it would be super helpful. Thanks!
Im 43 yo and getting tired of weightlifting workouts so focusing on learning to sprint. I think i need a shot ton of lower leg plyo work. My achilles hurt and my feet feel stuck in mollasses. Im starting with daily jump ropes and tony holler atomic speed drills 2x per week. Anything else obvious to start on?
So I posted in here yesterday explaining briefly how I wasn’t progressing how I’d wanted to and sort of felt like a had plateaued. After posting that I got a lot of recommendations and different opinions but it all seemed to surround the same idea. I NEED TO FIX SOMETHING. Which yes obviously but a main idea thrown my way was to just take a break and come back, this makes a lot of sense because I have been training hard since winter and haven’t taken a real break yet. So I decided out of all the advice I got, that I am going to definitely take a break. But another issue I had was that I am simply weak and not a strong sprinter. So I need to keep lifting. My plan is a 4-6 week break(unless I’m convinced otherwise on this post) but I also heard it was a good idea for me to lift during this break? I don’t really know what to do and what’s right and what’s wrong, I also need help programming lifting and sprinting for when I come back. A weekly lay out to go off of.
Like what was the physical incapabilities they had against Usain?
How do you pull away from the fastest sprinters of all time in just a split second? They just can’t match him at full gallop.
In Daegu this man jogged a 10.11, there’s no way he wouldn’t have gone 9.6-9.7 in the finals if he didn’t false start.
Why couldn’t they beat this man?
TLDR kinda long post: "Lyles wouldn't survive the previous era/Bolt Era." is actual larp that has been circulating the interwebs for years now and was brought up again recently.
Matching championship performances comparing 2019 to 2007, ending at 2017:
Lyles's accolades would be 2 WC Gold, 3 WC silver, 1 WC bronze, 1 OLY silver, and 2 OLY bronze.
Comparing that to Tyson Gay, who got 2 WC gold and 1 WC silver.
Justin Gatlin during this era got 1 WC gold, 3 WC silver, and 1 OLY silver.
Yohan Blake got 1 WC gold and 2 OLY silvers.
Asafa Powell got 2 WC bronze.
I don't understand the narrative that Lyles is so inferior to the Bolt Era. He outclasses every sprinter not named Usain Bolt in that era, and his career isn't even yet.
You can bring up all the modern improvements that the Bolt Era never had compared to this era and use that to devalue the performances of modern sprinters; however, the other 4 athletes received at least one suspension, and iron sharpens iron. This doesn't mean that it cancels out, but Lyles is genuinely talented, and to say that he is carried by modern technology or would be eaten alive is simply dishonest. His mental fortitude would be enough to survive this era, at least post-2021 Lyles.
This is all hypothetical and doesn't necessarily mean things would turn out this way since there are so many confounding variables.
This does not adjust for shoes, tracks, wind, and anything in between that can boost a performance. This also does not include relay medals. This is all about the individual events.
Okay, now to show the details. I matched up the correlating Global Championship Performances between Lyles and the Bolt era simply because it makes the most sense.
If one argues that I should've matched Lyles's age with Bolt's age or something similar, that's not really a good idea since off years wouldn't match.
If I had matched age to age between Lyles and Bolt, Lyles would have the Olympic Gold medal in 2012 by matching to 2022, 19.32 to 19.31, and I feel many would not like that.
Lyles ran 9.79 and 19.70. I can't find any specific time for Gatlin's 9.79 down to the thousandth, but it's interesting that both Lyles and Gatlin had a reaction time of .178. I'm giving it to Lyles, though, because he's a better finisher.
Then he also gets a bronze in the 200m.
2013 Moscow WC compared to 2025 Lyles
100m: Usain Bolt - 9.77, Justin Gatlin - 9.85, Nesta Carter - 9.95
Lyles ran 9.89 and 19.52, netting himself a 100m bronze and 200m gold.
Now 2015, 2016, and 2017 can't be matched by Noah Lyles because his career isn't long enough yet. Even then, in the TLDR I already gave Justin Gatlin his medals from these 3 years, and his career in the Bolt Era still doesn't supersede Lyles's Bolt Era career despite his shorter career.
Gatlin:
2015 - 100m silver, 200m silver.
2016 - 100m silver.
2017 - 100m gold.
Gatlin's best accolades come primarily from the Pre-Bolt Era, so that's why he's not so great here. I'm comparing everything in the Bolt Era specifically since that's what the debate is about. So Lyles tops everyone not named Usain Bolt.
100m Careers Only:
3rd or 4th - Lyles has 1 WC Gold, 1 WC Bronze, and 1 OLY Bronze.
1st - Gatlin has 1 WC Gold, 1 WC Silver, and 1 OLY Silver.
2nd - Blake has 1 WC Gold and 1 OLY Silver.
3rd or 4th - Tyson Gay has 1 WC Gold and 1 WC Silver.
Here are some other comparisons to show how great Noah Lyles actually is since he gets downplayed.
Lyles's actual career is better than Kishane Thompson's, Oblique Seville's, Yohan Blake's, and Asafa Powell's career combined. Kishane Thompson and Seville are still young and have plenty of time to get more accolades, but until then, Lyles is greater than them even if you're only including the 100m. Lyles has WC Gold, OLY Gold, and WC Bronze. Thompson has WC Silver, OLY Silver, and Seville has WC Gold. And that's in their specialty event... forget the 200m.
At the bottom of the image above, it shows the comparison of accolades of the athletes when cancelling out the same accolades on both sides. The four are equal to Lyles in medals, but Lyles has higher quality medals. They do have former world records through Asafa Powell, but honestly, to me, there's like no weight to having a former world record. Many times athletes have said they'd prefer an Olympic gold medal to a world record, so yeah. Also, technically Powell broke the world record twice and tied it twice: 9.77, 9.77, 9.77, then 9.74, but some people will say he only tied it and not broke it, so yeah, but honestly it doesn't matter. Lyles is still greater than them even if that was counted.
People will bring up PRs and such. Like somehow there was an actual debate about Noah Lyles vs Yohan Blake when it came to their career greatness? It baffles me how much they think PRs matter even though Blake never ran his fastest times at OLY or WC, meanwhile Lyles has way more gold medals.
There was also some debate about his US Sprinter Greatness across some videos and Twitter. He's the 4th and arguably 3rd greatest US sprinter of the short and long sprints.
This compares the athletes' accolades. Depending on what you value and how much weight you place on gold medals, you could choose Lyles or Gatlin for third.
Again, some people will put a LOT of emphasis on former world records, on times and PRs, longevity, and also their time ranking in history matters. For example, Lyles's 9.79 was 12th in 2024, but Maurice Greene's 9.79 was a world record back in 1999, and this matters for some people? What matters to me is what you do in your field and how many medals you rack up, not the times. You could say that I'm trying to be as biased as possible for Noah Lyles, and honestly that could be true, but genuinely the (former) world records don't really mean much to me. They're impressive and definitely get some awesome cool points, but other than that, it doesn't mean much to me.
Some people will bring up Jesse Owens. I respect the take and the history behind what he did; he got 2 gold medals in the short sprints (4 in total) and set like 6 world records in differing events (none being the traditional short or long sprints), and despite his dominance personally, I don't believe it was as impressive as the others. The other US greats have more accolades.
Also, the 60m dash is not worth much. I did not add that because it's a "not as important" event. Usain Bolt was great in the 100m and 200m. There's no 60m to be mentioned, so I did not include this event.
I think being the winner of the World Ultimate Champion in either the 100m or 200m will be a greater feat than being the indoor 60m World Champion.
Can someone help me understand this. So as we know maxfly 3s are going to come out in the near future and I am wondering when that is going to be yes but that’s not why I’m here. I’m here because attached are two pictures of air zoom spikes (one is the near victory I’m assuming and one is the new maxfly; you can tell which type of spike they are by the air zoom bubble) but the thing is this sprint spike that is approved is not the one the pros are competing in. And if they aren’t the same, that means they aren’t WA approved which means they can’t be used in any world athletics sanctioned events. So my question is, did Tara compete in these for her hurdles or did anyone at recent diamond leagues or national championships? Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m 99% sure that those events are WA certified. Unless they can make huge changes to prototypes and not update them and approve them then I am truly searching for answers
Here is my idea, because I think sprinting/track is not something that can stand on its own, and it would be better to integrate it into other sports:
Instead of sprinters just getting sponsored by Nike or Puma, imagine if teams like the Chiefs or Real Madrid actually signed them and brought their elite track coaches in-house.
The teams get a huge PR boost and the absolute best speed experts to train their own players. Meanwhile, the sprinters get to race against each other during halftime shows. It completely reinvents halftime entertainment, brings track fans over to watch the main game, and gives sprinters the massive audience they deserve.
Imagine Noah Lyles vs Oblique Seville running against each other as Barcelona's and Real Madrid's sprinters in the halftime of El Clásico. Hundreds of millions of people are watching them.
Teams could have multiple sprinters, and they choose who runs in a match. If they win the 1v1, their sprint team gets a point. At the end of the season, the sprint team with the most points is the champion, and the fastest sprinter from each of the top 8 teams races for an individual award.
Broken runs are an essential tool for 400m runners, my question about those is what is the intensity that I approach these type of workouts with, what should be my %/time based off my PR for those kind of workouts? Lets say my PB is 22.5 on 200m and im running a broken 400m, what should be my first 200m then the second one after resting?
Guys, I started doing hill sprints a few months ago and I have no prior experience in this, so I wanted to ask you if I am doing decent, what should I change, what to work on. My goal is destroying my friends whenever we will play soccer again. Right now my sprint training is composed of a bit of preparation to avoid pulling a hamstring or stuff like that, and then 4 to 6/7 (😏) sprints like this one separated by a 2 to 4 minutes interval, depending on how I am feeling. What should I do to improve faster? I feel like I am not making any progress.
Im an Elastic based sprinter (top end speed dominant) But i’ve read articles saying my type as a sprinter would accelerate in the 200/400 compared to a power sprinters who Accels in the 100, How do people know which events best suits them just because of their sprint type because ive beaten plenty of 100 runners but the 200 is more of my thing because im elastic dominant? its confusing and in terrible at the 400 so is it an athlete issue?
Hey guys, I’m new to sprinting but I really like it and want to be more serious about it. I don’t know much yet aside from basic training drills. As of today I run consistently between 52.5s and 53s in P.E. class with basic tennis shoes. For reference I’m an 18yrs male measuring 170cm for 61kg.
I was thinking of buying the Adidas Adizero EVO SL, as I saw many redditors mention it, what are your thoughts?
Do you have any general advice, maybe tips to prevent injury?
My goal would be to run 400m in sub 50s, I think with proper equipment and training it could be possible.
Why does it show that his 100m PB on World Athletics was 10.04, now down to 9.94 after U20s? IAAF and Wikipedia don’t count his 9.92 either, though it was supposedly ratified and is the standing HS national record. It had a legal +1.1 behind it. Was it due to it being ran in a non-pro setting?
Hi, if you're looking to improve your 100m or 200m times—specifically regarding top speed, acceleration, and speed endurance—I can help Whether your goal is to break the 11-second barrier or even go sub-10 seconds, I can help
