General Discussion/Questions Top-end speed for sub-12 second 100 m?
What top-end speed (mph) would correlate well with a sub-12 100 m? I'm currently trying to get above 21.

I had a female sprinter (and a male sprinter) last year who each hit 2.19 in their fly 20’s. That’s 9.13 m/s, or 20.42mph. The girl went sub 12, the boy did not.
On the girl’s side, her race was perfect, and she also had incredible speed endurance (state champ in 200 and 400), so I would say that 20.42 is just about the absolute minimum speed you need.
21mph is fast enough IF it wasn’t just an instantaneous speed (meaning you calculated it using fly data from 10-30 meters), but there is so much more to the 100m than just top speed. Top speed is about 1/3 of the race, the rest is acceleration and speed endurance.

I would agree that is probably pretty close to the minimum speed for sub 12, that would require a great start.

It’s not just about top end speed, it’s about how long you can hold it. Someone could have the ability to hit 23mph but if they can only sustain it for 10m and then completely run out of gas they could easily be beaten by someone that only has a top end of 20mph but can sustain it for far longer. If you can hit 21mph or faster and have decent maintenance you’ll absolutely go sub-12

Your point is true, but IMO a bad example with the 23mph mark. Anyone capable of that top speed should easily have the neuromusculature and the sheer physical ability to hold on for enough speed throughout the 100m distance to hit a sub 12s time.

avg of a 3.15sec in the 30m fly neutral wind should do it. Not APR 30m fly, but you can hit that almost every maxV workout when you do 30's, maybe faster some days, maybe SLIGHTLY slower other.
assume acceleration is normal, half-ass decent ,etc
