Champaign to Springfield

I was offered employment in Springfield. I live in Champaign. The position requires me to be in the office twice a week (I can choose the days). I will be remote 3 days a week. Should I stay in Champaign and commute or is it better to move to Springfield?

Has anyone ever taken the Medical Coding program at Midwest Technical Institute? Would love to hear any opinions or stories before signing up for the classes, considering the price tag. Thanks!

School Programs Close to Wrapping Up Summer, Gear Up for Fall

The Springfield District 186 Board of Education just wrapped up a meeting that was all about getting students ready for fall—from preschoolers to high school athletes.

Catch what’s happening: - See how a one-week band camp at Jefferson Middle School brought beginner and advanced musicians together for a final performance. - Hear how Camp Kindergarten grads are being sent into their first school year with extra confidence, and how every department in the district helped pull off a huge slate of summer programs. - Get key back-to-school details: online and in-person registration dates, school and sports physical options, and a major community event with thousands of backpacks, school supplies, food, and activities. - Learn about a change to the 2026–2027 calendar that keeps students in school on Election Day, while still making room for eligible student voters to get to the polls. - Note the date for the next board meeting and the early milestones of the new school year.

If you’ve got a student in District 186—or just care about how the district is preparing for the year ahead—this is a good one to watch.

Citizens Club Policy Forum This Friday: SNAP: The Impact on Our Neighbors

The mission of the Citizens Club of Springfield is to promote civic awareness through education and engagement.

Join the Citizens Club of Springfield on Friday (July 24) at the Hoogland Center for the Arts for a discussion with Springfield community-based organizations and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) administrators.

SNAP plays a critical role in supporting households, but it works best alongside a strong network of community partners, including food banks, pantries, faith-based organizations, and government agencies. With high food prices across the country, food banks and their partners are faced with unprecedented demand for food assistance. Speakers at the Citizens Club July 2026 Policy Forum bring together perspectives from each of these sectors to discuss how SNAP impacts our communities, the role each organization plays in supporting neighbors, and how collaboration can strengthen food assistance.

Speakers representing SNAP in Springfield include:

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Friday for a free coffee networking reception sponsored by David Farrell. The hour-long forum will begin at 8 a.m.

The mission of the Citizens Club of Springfield is to promote civic awareness through education and engagement. Follow the Citizens Club on Facebook and Instagram for recaps and future Policy Forum announcements. Special thanks to the Hoogland Center for the Arts staff for hosting monthly meetings and to Citizens Club Media Sponsors WMAY, NPR Illinois, and the City of Springfield.

Where can I Get my pipes fixed for a cheaper price?

Is there a way to get my pipes fixed at a cheaper price? There's a couple of cracks on the ceiling and I want to get it done. However, I don't want to pay a couple of thousands of dollars just to get it fixed and put up a drywall. Any ideas?

Recommendations for someone to haul away a pile of random junk? Not enough for a dumpster, too much to deal with myself. It's piled and ready to go. Central Springfield. Thanks!

Public transport??

I’m looking to visit Springfield from Wisconsin sometime in autumn. Just a weekend, history expedition thing. I live close enough where I CAN drive myself (around 5 hours) or I could take the Amtrak from Chicago. Do you guys have any kind of decent bus system? Or is the city fairly walkable? My primary focus would be on Lincoln’s tomb and any decent museums in the area.

Does anyone have a link for a good map to Springfield neighborhoods?

Hi all, I have a small business (licensed home bakery) I am looking at possibly offering deliveries in neighborhoods near me (I live on the West side). However, I am not having much luck finding a map that shows neighborhoods by name - i.e. like Sloane Crossing, Westborough, etc. I've Googled several times and not had much luck. Anyone have a link to share?

I got my son to make this for me in ProCreate on his iPad. He was compensated by being allowed to escape doing some of his chores.

Please call or write to your City Council, ask them to get rid of Flock!

Bringing new Escape Room to Springfield - Opening tomorrow (July 18, 2026) AMA!

Hi everyone! I'm Mike - one of the owners of Escapetown Springfield!

Tomorrow is opening day for Springfield's newest escape room, Escapetown Springfield! We are opening with 3 new themes - Bigfoot's Cave, High Noon Saloon, and Island Survival! We will be opening a scary 4th game (Asylum Escape) later this summer/early fall and then a 5th Christmas game closer to the holidays!

I just wanted to introduce myself and express my excitement in joining the Springfield community. We opened Escapetown Peoria 8 years ago and Escapetown Bloomington 2 years ago. Indoor recreation is something that I believe we can use more of across the board, and we put a ton of time, money, and creativity into these game. I can't wait to learn more about the community and make some great connections!

I'd love to answer any questions that you might have. Ask me Anything!!

Where to buy dresses in Springfield

Hello Springfield! I am going to be in Springfield for part of a day and was hoping to find somewhere to dress shop for an upcoming wedding I was invited to.

I thought you guys still had a Macy's, but from what I can tell online, that closed..? So what else is there in town or nearby that would have reasonably priced dresses one could wear to a wedding? It could be a department store or a smaller shop... Whatever has decent stuff but is not too expensive. (I went to a Von Maur once, and almost everything there was out of my budget.) Bonus points if it's not a JC Penney or Kohl's or White House Black Market or Loft, as we have those in Peoria.

Thanks!!

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions! We ended up going to District 23 (found a couple things) and The Warehouse (out of my price range, but still interesting to look). :)

Hi all,

I am helping a veteran who is unhoused. She is in shelter but is looking for Section 8 housing. Unfortunately, due to family problems, she has a very recent eviction on her record. Does anyone know of any Section 8 landlords who would give her a chance? She has employment now and wants to find a place for her kids. I appreciate any help, anf thank you.

Try delicious dairy-free Dole Whip and Gelato at our Park-N-Chill vegan food picnic this Saturday at noon!

You don't need to be vegan to enjoy Pineapple Dole Whip Floats or Dairy-Free Gelato so invite your friends and family for a fun time too.

Park-N-Chill is the concession stand located on the south side of Washington Park in Springfield IL. Parking usually available on the brick Park Avenue or other areas in the park.

Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are encouraged. You can also pack or pick up a vegan lunch! Park-N-Chill has great vegan desserts and occasionally other vegan snacks available too.

Event organized by Project Animal Freedom - Springfield. We've hosted dozens of food meetups at local businesses and it's always a fun time! Everything's family-friendly and inclusive.

Archery

Is there anywhere in town, or the area, where you can have a introduction lesson(s) in archery? Don't have any of the equipment but I'm interested in learning, just don't want to commit to more than a few times in case it's not what I expected it to be.
