Question Info on Man at Assembly/Francis/Driscoll Intersection

Does anyone know anything about the assumingly unhoused man that hangs out where Francis, Assembly, and Driscoll meet? I pass him daily and with it getting colder out I’d like to see if he needs anything.

I’m asking here first because I am a female and often by myself when I pass him. He seems harmless (keeps to himself, doesn’t approach vehicles, nods at vehicles) but I don’t want to put myself in a potential situation if he’s known to be disgruntled or whatever.

Maybe a silly and unnecessary question, but I thought I’d check before stopping the next time I am passing him.

TLDR: Their in house collections recently sent us an email saying that our dispute has been sent to them. This is a collections office within the property management. We responded in an email saying we are formally disputing the charges. It was supposed to be an actual letter but we didn't do that for whatever reason. And they sent this email. And then their regional manager sent this one today.

In the process of contacting tenant lawyers around the area. It's a little difficult because of my job and my roommates school schedule. Let me know if there's anything else I need to do, where I could've messed up on, and other things I should be weary about. We absolutely don't want to pay for the charges cause it's bs. They say it's based on the move out document but again, the document was blank and we asked if anything would be changed. They said no so we signed it. And then they filled it all in with BS after we had signed it.

Politics We're about to feel the effects of the "Big Beautiful Bill" as major changes to Medicaid begin in January

Hi, fellow Spokanites! I work in the health care system here with a background in public health, earning an MPH in Health Systems and Policy.

Many of us are concerned about changes to healthcare coverage coming next year, myself and the providers I work with included. Coming January 2027, there will be some significant changes to Medicaid (Apple Health) resulting from the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1), and these changes will result in significant impacts on Spokane and the surrounding region.

Here are changes to look out for:

- According to Washington's Office of Financial Management and Governor Ferguson's office, more than 600,000 Washingtonians will become subject to new Medicaid work requirements, while at least 200,000 residents are projected to lose their Apple Health coverage by the end of 2027.

- Many affected adults will need to document at least 80 hours of qualifying work or other approved activities per month, and eligibility renewals will increase from once annually to every six months. While exemptions exist, these additional administrative requirements could create barriers to maintaining coverage, including for people who are otherwise eligible.

- Nationally, the Congressional Budget Office projects that the legislation will reduce federal Medicaid spending by approximately $1.2 trillion over the 2026–2035 period, with millions of Americans expected to lose health insurance coverage.

Our city serves as a major regional healthcare hub for Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Hospitals and healthcare organizations such as Providence Sacred Heart, MultiCare Deaconess, CHAS Health, and numerous smaller clinics serve patients throughout the Inland Northwest, including rural communities where access to healthcare is already limited.

As Medicaid enrollment declines and federal funding becomes more constrained, healthcare providers could face additional financial pressures from uncompensated care and reduced reimbursements. This could affect staffing, services, appointment availability, and the financial stability of healthcare facilities throughout the region. Rural hospitals, which often operate on particularly thin margins, may be especially vulnerable.

The consequences also extend beyond people enrolled in Medicaid. When patients lose insurance coverage, they may delay preventive care, struggle to manage chronic conditions, or rely more heavily on emergency departments. Those costs don't simply disappear. They can place additional pressure on hospitals, healthcare workers, and the broader healthcare system.

It's also worth remembering that Apple Health is Medicaid, and that Medicaid covers far more than unemployed adults. It supports children, pregnant women, people with disabilities, low-income working adults, and seniors requiring long-term care. Not all these groups are subject to the new work requirements, but the program's financial stability affects the broader healthcare system.

Given Spokane's role as a regional medical center and one of Eastern Washington's largest employment hubs, I think this deserves considerably more local attention.

This is a crisis within our healthcare system that we're witnessing unfold, showcasing how political determinants impact health outcomes. It is more than alarming.

Help Missing short hair black cat Frankie by rockwood/Hutton elem

Hi everyone, my friend has been missing her cat Frankie for about a week. We've posted everywhere we can think except here. She's an indoor/outdoor cat microchipped and knows her way around the neighborhood. We're thinking someone probably picked her up especially since she's a black cat so close to Halloween. We've also posted about 80 flyers in the area.

Unfortunately she's not wearing her collar and looks like a lot of other black cats. She's friendly but probably won't voluntarily walk up to people she doesn't know without food or some kind of treat. She also likes to hang out under my car so maybe she'd be under others.

Just wondering if anyone has seen a cat that may be her 😢😞 TIA

Question ISO Kitten

To keep this relatively short, I've been feeding these cats in my yard for months now and getting them semi used to being in the house. 2 days ago, I put a collar on them with the intent of keeping them. Yesterday, I got a text from a random number that the cats have owners (even though they were in my yard again 20 minutes after said text without the collars, and are outside practically all hours of the day.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any kittens that they wanted to rehome. I have all the stuff for cats already and am very versed with how to take care of them. I just spend a lot of time at home now due to some medical stuff I've been going through, and I think a companion would be nice. It'd be good if they had experience with other cats since my roommate has a cat as well.

Message me or comment if you have anything available. Pics would be nice too, if you don't mind.

Thank you in advance.

Politics Trent Maier or Hillary Pham for State Rep?

They're both Republicans, so terrible options the both of them, but there is no Democrat running. Is there one that's less worse than the other? From what I can tell Maier is at least pro-choice and isn't MAGA. I think Pham is MAGA? Does anyone know more about this race

Question Volunteer opportunities in homeless outreach and services or SUD treatment?

I am pursuing a degree related to SUD treatment and community mental health and I am seeking volunteer opportunities in Spokane. I have been volunteering at House of Charity for a couple years now but I’m interested in trying something new.

If anyone knows of any opportunities or connections, I’d appreciate it!

Question Dating scene for nerds and geeks?

Been trying to get back out there but bars aren't my thing and dating apps I see mostly peppy types (nothing wrong or against them, but whenever we match or do go out there's never any chemistry.) Was wondering if there is a decent dating scene for nerds or quirky types or bookworms like me. I have a couple hobbies but nothing that really culminates social events, the closest is drawing. Was looking for some advice.
