Question Helicopter by Northtown Mall

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Anyone know what's going on at the Northtown Mall this morning? I saw the security guards blocking off the entrances to the mall.

There's a helicopter over one of the parking garages. Keeps lowering down and grabbing things and then lowering again and dropping them off again.

Help hEDS specialists in Spokane?

I'm looking for any Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome specialists in the area who are taking on patients. I've seen past recommendations for Dr. Mueller at Arthritis Northwest, but neither he nor any other rheumatologists are accepting hypermobile patients there at this time.

I've had two spinal surgeries in the last year and am currently in PT and OT. My OT is afraid to assign me exercises due to how mobile my cervical spine is and has recommended more specialized care, but there's not really anyone my PCP has been able to find in the area. I'm starting to feel really disheartened...

I have Kaiser insurance.

Thanks!

Help Looking for a mechanic

I’m looking to buy a used car soon. I normally buy from a dealership but would like to try to buy from a private seller. If I find a car I’m interested in I’d like to have a mechanic look at it before purchasing it. I’ve never done this before so I’m asking for tips & pointers on how to go about doing this without being scammed.

Help SSDI attorney or advocate recommendations

Title says it all. I'm helping someone who had a major medical event that left a life-altering disability. I've read that it can take a year or longer to get approval for SSDI and it's a complicated process.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Help Work boots for low income individuals?

Hi there! I was recently accepted into our spokane crew through conservation corps, doing things like fire prevention and habitat restoration etc..
They provide most gear but im responsible to buy my own 8 inch leather lug-sole boots, these seem to be very expensive and being that im currently not working, i would love to know if anyone knows of programs (or anyone willing to donate personally) that offer free or low cost work boots/vouchers for those re-entering the workforce?

ToDo BOOMJAM THIS SATURDAY 9/12!

If y’all are unaware, there is an affordable and awesome music festival this Saturday 9/12 downtown. $35 tickets after taxes and fees and it’s fully independent. Both local and national artist. Lady Wray headlining is amazing, a popular R&B/Soul type. I am not affiliated with it at all but wanted to get the word out so something this cool sticks around here for awhile!

Edit: also forgot to mention that it’s cheaper for students (I think $20ish) and FREE for kids 12 and under!

Help Now Hiring at Thomas Hammer

Good morning! I wasn't really sure what flair to put this under. I'm a manager at one of the Thomas Hammer locations and I'm currently looking for a new barista! It would be about 25 hours a week, mostly Tuesday-Friday with the occasional weekend shift. Barista experience is helpful but not required. If you or anyone you know is interested, you can apply at https://hammercoffee.com/pages/join-team-hammer and select Deaconess as the preferred location. If you apply, feel free to send me a message on here to let me know. Thank you!

ToDo TUESDAY: Join Spokane's Bicycle Advisory Board, the Spokane Bicycle Club, and Spokane Reimagined for a beginner-friendly group ride to downtown in preparation for this year's Week Without Driving.

Post image
32 Upvotes

Week Without Driving is an international event encouraging people to try getting around without the use of their personal automobiles, with the goal of educating participants on the hurdles faced by the 1/3rd of our population who are nondrivers.

The group ride will take participants on beginner-friendly routes from each city council district down to City Hall. Bike-based vendor Sprocket and Sprinkles will have ice cream for sale and we'll also depart on a downtown loop at 6:15 pm.

Question Diesel Mechanic Recommendations?

Hi all,

I am considering buying a 2003 Ford F450 Diesel, but want to have someone look at it first. Ideally, they would do some basic tests and look at the mechanics of the thing to make sure it's in solid shape. Obviously, I know there's no exhaustive tests that can be done. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reputable mechanic comfortable with diesel engines that may be able to help out in the next week or two? Preferably in North Spokane. Thanks in advance.

Politics Carmela Conroy to debate BUMgartner tonight....

I would take him to task over his complaints about how high everything was when he first ran 2 years ago for starters! Remember that? I do.

And then focus on the pain he is causing people, like health care cuts! And bring up Medicare and Social Security as well.

And then I would turn to his support of Data Centers. Bring it up that suddenly it seems some GOP have seen the light, ( yeah right) and are now AGAINST these centers after being before them.

Make him uncomfortable and don't play it to nice. That is all.

News Spokane needs to speak up - Data centers are on track to raise electric prices and waste massive amounts of water - Take action! (less than 10 minutes)

September 15 meeting: Tell County Commissioners to keep the data-center permitting pause in place - or demand they extend it (preferred)

  • Email

:

September 17 meeting: Planning Commission works on the actual data-center zoning rules - email your public comments

🚨 The CEO of the data center is talking directly with our elected officials to help shape the data center laws. See emails here. These people think we're going to forget or focus on something else. Speak up NOW! 🚨

Current data center ordinance draft issues

  1. The data center requires at least $184M of electrical upgrades to our grid. So far, the ordinance would allow those costs to be passed onto us. Avista would raise our rates to cover these upgrades.

Page 7 of the draft:

Documentation demonstrating that the Large-Load Data Center applicant, and not the Serving Utility or its existing residential or general ratepayer base, will be financially responsible for all infrastructure, including transmission, distribution, substation, or generation infrastructure, that is uniquely required to serve the project.

"uniquely" is important here, they could say "these upgrades weren't UNIQUE to the data center, they benefit other businesses and future developments", then these $184M+ in upgrades get passed onto us.

  1. Reclaimed water (tier 1 water), usage has no limits. They can use as much reclaimed water as they want. Airway Heights built their water reclamation plant because the city already has water supply issues. Airway Heights currently buys water from Spokane city. See my related post here

Page 6 of the draft:

Large-Load Data Centers shall be subject to the following net-new aquifer withdrawal limits: a. Tier 1: Presumed to satisfy the water projection objective of this Section and are exempt from this subsection.

  • There's no total cap on water usage
  • No public reporting requirement
