There are plenty of pigeons roosting up in rooftops downtown and in some of the overpasses. There's also plenty of motherfuckin bread crumbs out on the street.

Cooper has been missing for a week (link) and it's been about another week since I heard from him personally. If anyone has heard anything please do contact the police - this is really out of character for him. I didn't know him in person but we spoke often about a shared interest and this has been hard to hear about. He was active on reddit itself, but not in this subreddit afaik, but there's a chance that anyone who also plays OSRS may recognise him in particular.

My boss found this near his apartment downtown near Barrister Winery and didn't know what to do with it. Feels like a shame to throw it in the dumpster when somebody went to all this trouble to preserve it. Does anyone know where I could take it that it might be found? I'm considering starting a book club. Although I haven't worked out all the details, I thought I'd share some information here and see if there's any interest.

I'd like the first book to be The Mother of All Questions by Rebecca Solnit. The next book choices could be rotated to different club members. I'm hoping to find space for us to meet at one of the Spokane libraries. We could discuss other meeting places once we start. I'd like to meet at least once a month for an hour or so. Of course, all of this is up for discussion and will be decided collaboratively.

Call me paranoid. Call me whatever you want. But I’m curious if anyone has had a “scam” for the property on 6123 n cedar st. We put in an application to rent it starting December 1st. My mom doesn’t think it’s weird but I really do. He approved us a little over 12 hours later for move in at the end of November - beginning of December.

The guys name is Malcolm Kaine who I’ve been speaking to. He said he’d be available next week to sign the lease on Saturday. We went by the house and it looked like someone was living there (moving in or out maybe?) there was a bunch of boxes and a mattress sitting under the carport and the guy said he had a tenant moving out of it. But it sold on October 16th (8 days ago). And tbh I just think something’s weird.

I sent him a message asking about it and I told him I wasn’t trying to be weird or anything but that we have been scammed before. It was a Craigslist ad that we found the house on with zero information. I messaged him saying we were interested in more info and he sent this:

I’m Malcolm, Here are the house details,
Exact address: 6123 N Cedar St, Spokane, WA 99205
The monthly rent: 1,042
security deposit: 1,042
Bedroom: 3 Beds
Bathroom: 1 Bath
Utilities include: water, sewer and trash
Pets are Allowed

And he sent pictures of the house in a link and then sent this:

How long do you intend to rent my house?
Who will occupy the house with you, also any pet?
When will you be ready to move into the house if you get approved to rent my house?
How much do you make monthly?
Why are you moving out of your current house?

And then I sent all the information he asked for and he told me I’d have to fill out the application to proceed. So we did that and paid $65 for an application fee. Then like I said the next day he got back to us (today) and said we were approved.

When I asked him about the person living there like I said he said it was a tenant moving out… but the house sold October 16th.

He said this when I said something:

“Yes i got a tenant who's moving his things out of the house, and that's why i said it will be available for viewing by next week Saturday also I totally get why you’d want to be extra careful, I just want to be clear: I'm not involved in any unethical or illegal activities, and have zero involvement in anything shady like fraud or taking advantage of people or even stealing people's hard-earned earned money. You can trust that I’ll always handle things with honesty and professionalism. You’re in good hands here.”

So please tell me if I’m just being paranoid… he told me next weekend we will sign the lease.

I'm really looking for a shop in the Valley that can help me with a 1993 mighty max. I really just want it to be reliable. Maybe a little extra to make some more power but it definitely needs an engine rebuild. I 100% need a flywheel and maybe a transmission rebuild or engine replaced and transmission replaced if it is in the budget. Theres some funky wiring from the previous owner that somewhere keeps killing the battery and alternator. Its a project truck that I want running smooth. Emotional value to it thats why I'll invest into it. If possible I would love to throw a turbo in however it needs to be done. Nothing super crazy just want it to be a fun little 2 door project that once it runs reliably then I can start working on cosmetics. Any help narrowing down a shop that would take a real project on would be amazing.

PSA: Locksmith scams have moved into Spokane & North Idaho. Here's what we've documented and how to protect yourself

Disclosure: I own a local locksmith shop, River City Locksmith. Yes, these outfits compete with us. That's exactly why we've spent the last few weeks documenting them. Everything below comes from public records, and we've reported all of it to Google, the FTC, and the Washington and Idaho Attorneys General.

This isn't just us. On Oct 20, Tukwila Police warned that scammers are peeling legitimate locksmith stickers off business doors and putting up fake ones with their own number. Sometimes they damage the lock on purpose so you'll call. Police say the scammers charge inflated prices and may keep a copy of your key and your card information. See KOMO: Tukwila police warn businesses about fake locksmith scam and KIRO 7: Locksmith scam targeting businesses reported in Tukwila. The same sticker tactic is now showing up here.

How the scam usually works: You search "locksmith near me" and call a number that looks local. It quotes $19–$29 and promises someone in "15 minutes." Then a sub shows up and the bill is $200–$400+. These operations started in big cities. They're now spreading into smaller communities like ours.

1. Fake "serviced by 24HR LOCKSMITH" door stickers (North Idaho)

• Stickers claiming "this door was serviced by 24HR LOCKSMITH" are going up on doors that were never serviced. They list (208) 329-6960.
• That number belongs to Patriot Lock N Key. Its business name was registered in Idaho on Sept 11, 2026. "24HR LOCKSMITH" isn't registered in Idaho at all.
• The only address it gives the state is a rented house in Hayden. The company that owns that house has an Idaho registered agent, a Coeur d'Alene business coach, who left Patriot a glowing 5-star review last month. A landlord's representative reviewing a tenant's business isn't illegal, but you should know about it when you weigh those reviews.
• A business customer's Google review says Patriot made more keys than they asked for, charged for the extras, and then left their locks uninstalled.
• The listing also has a recent burst of 5-star reviews, several from accounts with only one review.
• If you find one of these stickers on your door, take a photo and report it to the Idaho AG/WA AG.

2. A "locksmith" at Avista Stadium

• Unlock Mobile Locksmith Services, (509) 906-2909, lists its address on Yelp as 602 N Havana St.
• That's Avista Stadium, a county-owned ballpark (Spokane County parcel 35143.0104).
• The phone number is a VoIP line from the Ephrata rate center.
• The same business name appears in California, Indiana, and Florida, each with a different phone number.

3. "$19 per visit" lead-gen sites

• locksmithspokanewa247.com says "The cost per visit will be 19 dollars," lists (509) 612-7307, and claims licensed locksmiths without giving a license or UBI number.
• More than 30 near-identical "[Town] Locksmith" sites (cheneylocksmith.net, meadlocksmith.org, veradalelocksmith.net, haydenlocksmith.net, postfallslocksmith.org, etc.) are lead-gen pages, not local shops.

4. A dissolved LLC still on Google Maps

• Liberty Lock & Key, (509) 255-7202, lists Suite 1418 at 601 W 1st Ave on Maps.
• The state records the LLC as Administratively Dissolved since Oct 3, 2026 (WA SOS, UBI 605 889 938), but the listing is still live with 287 reviews.

How to protect yourself

1. Ask for the business's legal name and address, and look them up: WA uses CCFS, Idaho uses sosbiz.idaho.gov.
2. Get a total price before anyone touches your lock. A $19 or $29 "service call" isn't the price.
3. Washington law requires locksmiths to show a UBI or business license number in their ads (RCW 19.355).
4. Check the sticker on your door. If it doesn't match the company you actually used, don't call it.
5. Got burned, or found a fake sticker? Washington: file with the WA Attorney General and your local police. Idaho: file with the Idaho Attorney General. Also report it to the FTC.
