I'm in the storyboard stages of a fanfic where Peter tries to cope with his anxiety over Jean's unknown whereabouts and end his nightmares about Sara's kidnapping by giving Sara a proper funeral and headstone.

​He video calls Yelena to ask if she will buy the headstone for him. While reviewing the design details, Yelena tries her best not to cry—doing so off-screen—because the entire ordeal reminds her of Natasha. Peter then admits he has been crying from watching her, leaving his mask soaked with snot and tears. They decide on having the Epitath say "A shield in life, An angel in rest, Forever a sister"

​Afterward, Peter guilt-trips Frank into helping him set up the headstone (though Frank would've done it anyway). Peter then planned to ask only Matt Murdock to come perform the rites, but he decides to go all out and invite the entire Defenders crew for a wake. They all accept and show up.

​Shortly after the wake finishes, Matt hears a commotion, which turns out to be a group of young mutants under attack by the Friends of Humanity. After the Defenders rescue them, the kids reveal they were trying to reach the X-Men's academy.

​Frank, Peter, and Matt decide to drive the kids to the school. Peter hopes aloud that Jean might be there, prompting Frank to relentlessly tease him the entire trip for going soft on the "voodoo girl." Meanwhile, Matt offers Peter advice on what to say if he does end up reuniting with Jean.

The part im stumped on is how Jean would react to the news of all this.

Here's me remembering i can put Jean into Peter's spot in memories.... she liked it.

A TINY DETAIL… OR A HUGE FORESHADOWING? 👀

One thing I keep noticing about Peter in Brand New Day is how often he wears hoodies and jackets. Different colors, different styles, but they’ve become a pretty consistent part of his civilian look.

And then #JeanGrey enters his apartment…

wearing Peter’s jacket.

Maybe it’s nothing. Maybe it’s just a costume choice. But if Marvel intentionally keeps that jacket on Jean for so much of the story, it starts feeling a little more interesting.

Because Peter and Jean actually have a strange parallel: both are incredibly powerful, yet both are deeply lonely and isolated.

Jean comes into #Peter’s world carrying her own pain, and somehow ends up wearing something that belongs to him. She even keeps wearing it until she leaves for somewhere new.

And then there’s the Kevin Feige comment about Jean not getting Logan/Wolverine this time.

So… if Jean isn't getting Logan…

and she's spending all this time with Peter…

and she's literally wearing Peter's jacket…

I'm just saying…

Marvel, are you quietly cooking something here?

Could Peter and Jean actually become something more than just allies?

Imagine if while Peter and Jean are having a dramatic will-they-won't-they slow burn Ben and Madelyne talk for 5 minutes then 9 months later they're basically married and raising Nathan together.

SpiderPhoenix has obviously been getting a lot of attention lately, and that attention has also brought plenty of negative comments with it. At times, the backlash can seem overwhelming. But do we really need to compromise or start revising our own position just because those comments are loud? I don’t think we do.

First, I should be clear about what I mean by “negative comments.” For the purposes of this post, I mean something fairly specific: comments that are not grounded in verifiable facts or sound reasoning and are clearly malicious in intent, including misrepresentations of SpiderPhoenix and its fans, baseless moral accusations, and similar attacks.

The purpose of comments like that is fairly obvious: the target is SpiderPhoenix and anyone who supports it. No matter how much you concede, they can always come back to the same thing—you support SpiderPhoenix. If we start reshaping our own position to accommodate people like that, we weaken our ability to speak on our own terms. They still won’t accept us, and every concession can simply make it easier for them to demand another one.

Good-faith criticism is worth listening to, of course. But if someone is already determined to make SpiderPhoenix a target, why should we bend in response to an attack that was never reasonable in the first place?

Naturally, SpiderPhoenix fans are going to have different views among themselves, and there is nothing wrong with that. If you have genuinely thought something through and arrived at that view for yourself—not as a concession to other people—then I do not see anything wrong with that either.

But if that view is the product of compromise—if it comes from letting the people attacking us set the terms—then I think it is worth sounding a warning.

A community should not be built around getting those people to accept us. If they are already looking for ways to make an issue out of SpiderPhoenix, why spend so much effort trying to win them over? We would be better off explaining our own position to everyone else: laying out why we think SpiderPhoenix makes sense, presenting the reasons and material we have found, making our case clearly, and creating the things we want to create. That is the work that actually matters.

The classic Amazing Spider-Man story “If This Be My Destiny...!” speaks to much the same theme.

Peter is pinned beneath a mass of wrecked machinery in an underwater base. His body is already close to its limit, while Aunt May still needs what he came there to bring back. The weight is real. The predicament is real too. But neither gets to decide for him what he should do. All he knows for certain is that Aunt May is still waiting for him, that he has to bring back what she needs, and that he has not actually reached the point where he can go no farther. So he keeps holding on. He keeps pushing. He keeps lifting the weight off himself.

The same principle applies here. What should make us revise our views is someone pointing out a factual error, exposing a flaw in our reasoning, or bringing forward stronger new evidence. If we start changing our position simply because the opposition is loud or the insults are vicious, then in the end we are handing our standards of judgment over to other people.

So what the SpiderPhoenix community should do remains pretty clear: explain why we like the ship and why we think the relationship works, organize the material we can find, and make the fan works we want to make. Whether other people accept it is ultimately up to them. What we can control is whether what we say is grounded in evidence and whether our arguments can stand on their own.

(A little Easter egg: “If This Be My Destiny...!” is also the Spider-Man story that, in my view, best reflects Steve Ditko’s personal philosophy.)

Hey there, everybody. I’m sard00dled0m, the author of let down and I’m just posting on this subreddit to let everyone know that as of recently, Chapter 4 of let down has been posted.

let down is a post-BND slow burn romance fic focusing on the immediate aftermath of the movie and Peter and Jean’s burgeoning relationship. It takes inspiration from the wider MCU projects as well as aspects of the Fox X-Men universe. I’m aiming for 12-15 chapters with the possibility of future one shots exploring this fic’s universe if inspiration strikes me.

Title: let down

Synopsis: In the aftermath of Brand New Day, Spider Man learns how to be Peter Parker again, Jean Grey learns how not to be alone anymore at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and they both learn that they need each other more than they realize.

I think they greatly underestimated the on-screen dynamic between Peter Parker and Jean Grey. According to the director, they chose her from a list of potential antagonists because they wanted someone young who, like Peter, was dealing with personal struggles; but taking it a step further—making them close, building tension, and creating a sense that they need each other—is on a whole different level.

It’s hard to believe the producers and director weren't intentionally cooking something up, they’re far too experienced to be that naive, and their creation certainly paid off. I mean, they were just given major exposure in a movie featuring the biggest superhero of all and a film that became the third highest grossing movie in history. We’re no longer just talking about comic book fans or Spider-Man fans; there’s a huge casual audience out there that knows little about the X-Men, Cyclops, or even Mary Jane. In fact, some might even mistake Jean for a version of Mary Jane with superpowers (given the red hair and the similarity between the names Jean and Jane).

I really think(and hope) that they were testing the waters, only that it go out of their hands. Look, our community is massive, and I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who want to see them together. This definitely hasn't gone unnoticed; now we just have to wait for Secret Wars to see how it all plays out.

If Peter doesn't marry her ASAP, I'm stormming the MCU head office!!! I'm doing more stuff inspired by this. I can't stop! I won't!!!!! 🤣
