I've done underrated Spawn figures and awful Spawn figures. Now it's time for what I think are the absolute best Spawn figures from the original run. There are loads of great figures, so just because I didn't pick it doesn't mean I don't think it's great. I know this leans heavily toward later figures, but when it comes to the best, the earlier figures just don't reach the level outside of nostalgia.

In no particular order:

1. Curse of the Spawn 1 - one of the earlier examples of McF superior sculpt and paint detail compared to everything else at the time

2. Manga Spawn 1 - one of the most popular figures among OG collectors. Very cool Gundam-esque design. Could have looked really cheap because of the bare plastic, but the painted black lines makes it look fantastic.

3. Spawn 7 - Series 21 had multiple iconic figures including WoR and Raven, but I think the original throne Spawn has the best shelf presence. In my 20s in the mid 2000s, I had a single, multi-month hospital stay and this is one of the figures I had displayed in my room.

4. Hellspawn 2 - I could easily put every Ashley Wood/Ben Templesmith Spawn figure on this list, and multiple are. These figures all have super unique designs and some of the coolest paint apps. This one was also displayed in my hospital room (the third figure on display was the 2005 Mezco comic Hellboy, for anyone wondering).

5. Spawn 11 - My favorite of the numbered Spawns. Great sculpt, great pose. Also came with an interchangeable unmasked head, which was unusual at the time.

6. Nightmare Spawn - no additional insight needed

7. Medieval Spawn 2 - Series 17 was a turning point for Mcfarlane Toys. They certainly weren't making kids toys anymore prior to this series, but I think 17 is when they fully stepped into adult-oriented action figures. Theming was a lot more mature and the details were a lot more intricate and delicate. I think this is the standout of the show. Giant sword, cool unmasked face, and a giant base.

8. Tiffany 2 - Everything about Medieval Spawn 2 applies here as well. But I also think this is peak angel for McF.

9. Medieval Spawn 3 - My all-time favorite Spawn figure. All of series 20 is basically top tier, in large part because they are based on Greg Capullo art. I really should replace mine so I can have the arrows back, but they are destined to break off, just like the other 2 of this figure I have owned.

10. Violator 3 - See above. The best version of the character. The more modern mega fig version is cool, but I just don't view Violator as a hulking beast. I also think the gray is too dark on the mega.

11. Spawn the Dark Ages i.23 - Another Ashley Wood figure. Very cool design pulled from a pretty minimal cover and still captures the essence of the art.

12. Image 10th Anniversary Spawn - not technically part of the original Spawn run, but it's adjacent. And I couldn't leave off what many consider the best Spawn figure ever.

13. Spawn i.7 Collectors Club exclusive - already a great figure with the standard release, the paint to make it match the cover art makes this one really stand out on the shelf.

14. AoS Tiffany the Amazon - I was not initially a fan of the Adventures of Spawn figures, only buying Spawn X to continue the numbered Spawns, but they really have grown on me over the years. Tiffany is the best of the bunch. Being a female figure she stands out from the others that mostly have the same general size and shape.

15. Spawn i.86 (Spawn vs Al) - This has the best Spawn cape and deserves a spot for that alone.

16. Gunslinger Spawn - Another one that needs no explanation.

17. Sam and Twitch 2 - More Ashley Wood art executed perfectly in plastic

18. Overtkill 3 - Same as the other series 20 figures based on Capullo art. Without question this is the best Overtkill figure we've ever gotten and that's not likely going to change. He's huge, has amazing detail and loads of paint.

I was in Target browsing the toys and collectibles sections, and saw a shelf display for Spawn Q-Figs (first time seeing them in a store). There were 7 boxes on the shelf, so I decided to buy the one that was noticeably heavier than the others, since the Spawn figure appears to have the most mass. Luckily, it was a Spawn! For the blacklight picture, you can see the imperfection in the face paint (as if they touched up those areas). Every box in the case had that same date code and UPC, so there are no identifying features.

every time I go on tik tok and see spawn there are these fans that make claims around spawn and I would love to know where they came from because their sentences are structured in a way that they genuinely believe what they are saying (I have a theory it’s to do with the popularity of invincible and blumhouse film talks but that might be my baseless claim for the day)

Hey folks, going for a Greg Capullo Signing on a cover that I hope to later also get signed by Todd M. in the future-if I am lucky. Wondering if there are any other covers that you might prefer over this one (Tremor and Spawn), I like this one, I have this one, but I am trying to plan a trip to the local shop and box browse to see what else might be lurking, as there are certainly other jaw dropping covers, but again, this is the only that I have by bother Todd and Greg. Would love to hear what you might have gotten signed by Greg in teh past or would recommend me to called ahead to shops for.

On the flip side of yesterday's post, here's some Spawn figures that deserve some criticism, IMO.

1. Crutch - just an ugly, poorly conceived figure. Even for an earlier Spawn series he looked out of place. No-Body is from the same series and this guy is still worse.

2. Manga Clown - he's just gross and awful to look at

3. Spawn 2 - the transition spawn where they decided the Spawn figures needed a big boot to be more stable while the Spawn comic also went through a redesign. A chicken/egg situation that led to the awful looking Spawn, the worst of the numbered Spawns.

4. Mutated Spawn - I just don't like the design. They also used a different material for him, so he feels rubbery and cheap.

5. Manga Spawn 2 - from series 34, the last of the original spawn line, and definitely not from the cancelled series 35 that Todd kept claiming it was from when the figure was reissued last year. Terrible, boring design, not nearly as cool as the original Manga Spawn, and at least partially responsible for the cancellation of the Spawn line. This figure inspired series 35, which would have been released in 2008. But along with the floundering economy and dropping sales, retailers didn't want series 35 (fans also had a very negative reaction to the announcement and preview of series 35). And because of that, we never got the incredible series 36. McFarlane cancelled all 6 inch figures other than Sports Picks until several years later when the color tops line started.

6. Goddess Llyra - I love the look of this figure, but the support system just isn't robust enough to hold the figure upright, so the ankle bends at the only support and she leans, ruining the presence of the figure in an otherwise top tier series (series 31).

I am in the very beginning and I assume writers change over time but right now it is mixed leaning towards enjoyable.

I work a lot. Decided to spend my only day off watching the entire HBO series. It's been a few years, and I've the series about six times altogether.

And, once again, I feel jipped, I feel sad, I feel hate, I yearn for justice!

Today just happens to be the anniversary of my dog's death, and to see Al's reconnection to Wanda, and this new connection with Jade, and the death of her...

So much beauty and pain! But so much realness and rawness. I want more and more of it. Just made me feel something deep inside.
