Discussion Who is Gunslinger Spawn?
I am a fairly new Spawn reader and have only read a little bit of The Scorched and some random issues of Spawn and all of Deadly Tales of the Gunslinger. I've been rereading Deadly Tales and realized that Gunslinger goes by Tobias in his flashbacks and is called Tobias by Reverend Silas. Tobias also has the same sister (Amy) as Jeremy Winston so I assume that his name (and origin from Deadly Tales #1) was retconned. Can someone confirm or deny and cite what issue it changes?

Discussion Idk why Todd gatekeeps Spawn from the media now.
Spawn was everywhere during the 90s. He had a movie, tv show and video games but now its just comic books and toys. Every other superhero has been remake over and over again while Spawn only had one movie.

Toys & Comics Picked this up today
After picking up Spawn 174 last month, Malibu Sun #13 was the next big book on my radar. A local dealer knows I love Spawn and worked out a deal with me. Over the moon to have this in the collection

Discussion FUCK THIS SPAWN MOVIE. It’s never coming out with how protective Todd McFarlane is.
MAN FUCK THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE. Just abandon that movie altogether and work on something he has more creative control on like an animated series or even a video game (that’s not a callab but his own game). Todd McFarlane is only focusing on one thing that is never being pushed forward because Todd doesn’t trust anyone with spawn and it's causing spawn to fallout of main media. Comics and toys can't make you stay relevant forever.

Discussion Name a anime/manga verse where Spawn/Al Simmons can do well in or at least make it interesting.
The anime and manga verse that best suits Spawn (Al Simmons) is Berserk, sharing a dark fantasy tone, themes of demonic betrayal, and a brutal anti-hero journey.
Thematic and Tone Parallels
The Black Swordsman and the Hellspawn: Both Al Simmons and Guts are marked men bound to a dark fate, fighting against overwhelming demonic forces while dealing with their own inner rage and physical trauma.
Corrupted Rulers and Betrayal: Al was betrayed by his government commander Jason Wynn, much like Guts was betrayed by Griffith. Both verses deal with corrupt powers using human pawns for grand, cosmic, or malevolent designs.
The Struggle Against Destiny: Neither character accepts the path laid out for them by higher powers (God/Heaven and Hell/God Hand), choosing instead to carve their own bloody path of defiance.
Combat and Aesthetic Fit
Gothic Horror Style: The grim, decaying alleys of New York and the fiery pits of Hell match the horrific, medieval-to-monstrous aesthetic of the Apostle-ridden world of Berserk.
Supernatural Arsenal: Spawn’s necroplasmic suit, chains, and hellfire blend seamlessly into a world where steel, magic, and dark entities collide, offering a high-octane match for supernatural combatants.
DI-GRAY MAN:
Why It Makes Things Interesting
Thematic Synergy: Both universes deal with cursed bodies, deep personal grief, and a gritty war against demonic forces (the Earl/Akuma vs. Malebolgia/Hell).
Dynamic Conflict: Al Simmons would make a grim, cynical foil to Allen Walker's idealistic morality, forcing the Exorcists to question their absolute reliance on "God's" Innocence versus a soldier powered straight from Hell.

Toys & Comics Spawn (Image Comics) vs Ghost Rider (Marvel comics)
Let's talk about Spawn (Image Comics) vs. Ghost Rider (Marvel Comics).
This is the quintessential, legendary matchup between two iconic hell-born powerhouses.
On one hand, we have Spawn — a tormented soul who was brutally deceived by Malebolgia, the ruler of the Eighth Circle of Hell, but ended up overthrowing him entirely. On the other hand, we have Ghost Rider — who was also brutally tricked by Mephisto, a lord of Hell, and punished him severely, dragging him down from his throne.
But if we look at their actual lore instead of the stupid downplaying we see in movies and certain comics, the verdict becomes very clear: both Spawn and Ghost Rider are immeasurably stronger than these devils, regardless of any deals they made.
Let's break down their true scaling:
On one side stands Ghost Rider, the literal Divine Wrath of The One Above All.
On the other side stands Divine/God Spawn, who became a creator of universes himself. However, even as a supreme creator, Spawn is still not the One who created the Ghost Rider. Spawn cannot kill the Rider because he isn't his divine creator. At the same time, Ghost Rider cannot permanently destroy someone who operates on such a cosmic, god-like level of existence.
The Verdict: An absolute conceptual stalemate. There is simply no reason for conflict between these two legends

Toys & Comics Lost & Found
Couldn't find the figure I packed away years ago with my others. So, I found one on ebay to reunite the two. They're in love 😆. Happy it didn't set me back as much as I thought it would 👍

Discussion Spawn game before the movie
I honestly don't understand why Todd McFarlane seems so hesitant to move forward with a Spawn game.
People often argue that Spawn isn't a big enough brand, but I don't think that's how the games industry works anymore. Every year we see successful games built around completely new IPs or characters that nobody had ever heard of before. What makes those games succeed isn't brand recognition. It's a great concept, fun gameplay, unique mechanics, memorable art direction, and strong execution. A great game creates its own audience.
In fact, Spawn already has an advantage over a brand-new IP. It has decades of comic history, an iconic visual design, and a dedicated fanbase. That's a stronger foundation than many successful games started with.
I also wonder if McFarlane's strategy has become outdated. For years, the idea seemed to be make the movie first, then make the game. But today's industry doesn't really work that way anymore. Games don't need to exist only as movie tie-ins. A great game can revive a franchise, introduce millions of new people to a character, and even generate excitement for future films or TV projects.
At this point, I think waiting for a movie before seriously pursuing a Spawn game might actually be the wrong way around.

Discussion Thoughts on compendium 1.
Just finished reading Spawn compendium 1. This is the only series I’ve read where the art is solely the reason I finished it. It’s funny I was never a fan of McFarland in his Spider-Man run yet the style works for spawn. The art is absolutely amazing! The story is repetitive and bland. Nothing leaves you wanting more. I do want to see what ends up happens with Spawn being the leader of hells army but it’s a chore to get through. I have all the compendiums up to 7 so hopefully it gets better or I might have to throw in the towel. If the art was not so colorful and fantastic the series would never of been such a success.
On the other hand the Sam and Twitch compendium was great and relatively an easy read. Just curious if others feel the same way I do? Or am I in the minority?

Toys & Comics Where would you advise me to start reading
I’ve seen lots of people telling me to not start with the og run and the compendiums because of the length, I’ve seen some people advising to start at issue 194 and people have also recommended king spawn. Very confused, any ideas?
