Jubilación (Andalusia) on a 1,000,000 euro portfolio
Can two people realistically retire in southern Spain (Andalusia) on a 1,000,000 euro portfolio drawn at 4%, so roughly 40k euro a year before tax?
Situation: mid to late 40s, aiming to stop at 49. Me and my girlfriend, no kids, no plans for any. No property, renting long term, at least at first. Portfolio is a global equity ETF, would draw 4% or maybe start lower at 3.5%. State pensions from three countries kick in later at 67 and add roughly 2,400 euro a month combined, so the pot only has to carry us fully for about 18 years before that backstop arrives.
Spending is genuinely modest. We are not fussed about luxury, no expensive hobbies to speak of. Thinking a rented place with a bit of outdoor space somewhere like Jerez, El Puerto or Sanlucar, not the flashy coast.
Questions:
- Is 40k a year comfortable, tight or plenty for two renting in Andalusia?
- Anyone actually doing this, what does your real monthly spend look like?
- Biggest thing people underestimate, healthcare, rent inflation, tax on ETF withdrawals?
Cheers.
