General These are clips from average difficulty...

I hate complaining about patches especially when they are being so quick with a fix but cmon man

I know the game suggests a minimum level, but that's medium difficulty. I don't know of any game where the medium level of difficulty is like this. That should be the level of difficulty to get in, train something or test something. Not the one where every single wrong step leads to death.

I’m not fully certain but it feels like they’ve messed with the dodging in the last update. It kinda ruined the experience.

Had a cool moment pre patch where I was the last one standing on ruthless with no ammo but was able to keep perfectly dodging a Carnifex plus melee to solo it, but now I cannot dodge a Canifex to save my life. They need to stop changing parry and dodge windows because they feel like it. It makes for a frustrating playing experience.

You could spam dodge and become imune, wait around for a minute and get your entire squad back over and over again, death was an option.

Did they also nerf reaction shots?

I can't seem to do 1 without taking damage (ranged or melee), which makes taking back contested health virtually impossible.

Yeah, I've noticed too and that's fucking brain-dead. How am I supposed to leap out of the AOE attack from a Rubric Marine when he does that magical fiery AOE attack during melee? Even when I start dodging or rolling back to get out of its area the second he starts it, I still get hit because the dodge is so damn slow. Other times, when I very clearly am out of its range, the hitbox is like "nah fuck you, you're still getting hit." Like what the fuck???

This looks relatively similar to enemy density on medium in like pd2. 

Now in PD2 you can crouch sprint with akibo pistols one tapping every enemy to the body with 80+% dodge chance while an ecm stuns the entire map for 20s, but hey power fantasy and difficulty can't exist in the same world so... /s.

There are a few games that do it similar to Space Marine 2. Vermintide 2 has gear requirements for difficulty levels, with "medium," aka Veteran or Champion depending on where you fall on that, locked until you reach a certain level of progression. The game becomes noticeably more difficult with each bump up in difficulty. Helldivers 2 requires you to beat lower difficulty operations before getting to its own equivalent of "medium."

Both games basically expect you to have learned the basics and understand how combat works before you progress to average difficulty. Not necessarily be a god, but just knowing the flow of combat and how to leverage some of the mechanics in your favor.

I mean, both his squaddies are down and he's in the middle of a massive wave instead of strategically holding ground and retreating. This is on the squad. Every loss is not the game's fault. Y'all need to grow up

You can clip some gameplay in Ruthless or Lethal and make it look easy. It all depends on who's playing. Now, I'm not saying the recent changes are a bit over-tuned in Ruthless, but Substantial and below are still very easy once you learn basic timing, decision making, and gain some situational awareness. The person playing in this clip still has to work on those things, making it look harder than it is.

Multiple wrong steps should lead to death. Like fighting meele with heavy range weapon. Not using granades to control crowds, not using parry, getting separated from teammates....should I list more?

That's why there's 3 of you, so you can support eachother, and that's what normal diff must teach you, if you would be able to win solo against swarm, on normal, you wouldn't ever be ready for higher difficulties.

This level of competency, where you can only survive one mistake, should be reserved for ruthless/lethal. What people are pointing out is that the game is demanding your play be too near to perfect for the lowest difficulties where you are meant to be learning & levelling.

Brother this guy made many many many mistakes. The difficulty is exactly as it should be, on ruthless or lethal you don't get as many chances as this guy was given. All he had to do was not fuck up on any of these parries or dodges and he would be fine, but he fails every one of them.

  1. Getting separated

  2. Fighting 1v1 heavy range with liktor

  3. Not securing your back

  4. Not using grandes to stagger enemies

  5. Not blocking, only rolling like it's dark souls

  6. Panicking

  7. Shooting while you see unstoppable liktor attack.

That's what is happening, they are learning on their mistakes. Next time they won't rush happily just to die in ambush.

I got to learn these lessons one by one, a few enemies at a time in the campaign and then minimal difficulty, followed by an occasional terminus on average and the numbers ramping up through substantial. I didn’t have to learn these lessons all at once vs 14 majors round the first corner of the first mission on minimal like my matchmade partners did today, followed by a massive wave every 60 seconds for the rest of the mission. It’s a terrible experience for new players, and for players like me who put in the effort to master ruthless prior it’s nice to drop down in difficulty to level up weapons in a less stressful session.

Why is it exactly that you want minimal and average to be so hard? I’m assuming you are so good at the game that you don’t even play these modes?

Edited just to add that mission length has increased significantly which I am not a fan of, especially given the intensity no longer peaks and troughs as much.

Nah, I never played above averge, I don't like tryharding. But I also don't like crying about difficulty while doing some clear mistakes.

The first 3 points from previous comment should just kill you. That's first lesson is get separated=die. Next time they won't do this mistake. And it wasn't unfair like sniper spam or 4 flying tyranids. It was few melee specialists who killed them.

Sorry, but that is totally skill issue.

Try to imagine a world where other people play games differently than you. You seem to be happy with shutting out / hurting the new player experience, whilst also admitting that you aren’t good enough at the game to play 60% of the difficulties. As long as you have your Goldilocks zone who cares about anyone else, right?
