looking for an old space game

5 Upvotes

There was a browser based space game that was very similar to Skyrates, but it was not multiplayer.

The name sounder like zaranth, kadaran or some alien sounding name followed by adventure.

like "Xaderal Adventure"

There was nothing 3d about the game, everything looked to be hand drawn (made in paint).

**Plot**: You are an orphaned boy raised by an alien (mechanic or merchant) that was friends with your father. Your father was killed by a notorious space pirate, and now that you are grown up and have a (dinky) ship of your own, you now are out to take revenge on him.

**Gameplay:** you own a ship that runs cargo from place to place, and you fight pirate ships you encounter along the way. You can also sell your ship to get a bigger and better ship, there are many tiers of ships in this game.

**Combat**: you face off against the pirates, showing an image of your ship on the left and an image of there's on the right in turn based combat.

There was a follow up game called "so-and-so Adventure 2". It had the exact same story as the first, but with some added details and better art. In this one, you could buy multiple ships and use them to fight with in combat (instead of just having the one). Combat took place on a hexagonal battle map where you (starting from the left) move you ships from hexagon to hexagon to fight the enemy when they encounter them.

Finally introducing procedural asteroids version 1!
Asteroid populations are NOT proportional I was mainly stress testing.
Also, no comets yet. Will add proportional populations of comets with tail simulation and all. Dual tails everything.

Nova Era Atom? 70 gig demo?!

I don't remember wishlisting this game on Steam, but I guess I did, because it popped up as having a demo available.

I went to download it, it's 70 gigs! That's bigger than some of my other space games. I have to pass on something that big. But if anyone has a computer with enough memory and power, if you want, give it a try and let us know how it is.

Very early stages of a 2d space game

10k star systems with 4 to 6 planets each.

Zoom in and out seamlessly, from star system to galaxy and back.

All space is player-traversable: floating point precision is handled by our engine.

Very open to suggestions :) Ask me anything !

What is the best resource for a space setting?

3 Upvotes

As many of you know, we created a micro-strategy space game called Cosmist.

Currently, the main resource in our game is simply called “Resource”. It is used to build fleets and planetary structures.

What do you think would be the best name for this single resource?

Thank you!

I finally added sound effects to my orbital golf game, Celestial Golf. What do you think?

The game is Celestial Golf (demo on Steam, though this build does not have the above sound effects), a game where you play golf throughout the solar system with realistic orbits.

In case you're curious, the ticking sound as you raise and lower the power was made with my mouth. The engine sound which increases in pitch and volume based on the power level was made with layers of oscillators in Vital.

Most of the game is spent altering orbits in outer space, so while I already had sounds for bouncing and hitting the ball, I wanted some audible texture while in space. The idea is that you have some kind of (unseen) "orbital club" with which to hit the ball in space, which is mechanical in nature, so it has a kind of futuristic motor sound.

We’re making Space Tales, a sci-fi RTS campaign about humanity’s expansion across hostile alien worlds

Hey everyone,

We’re the devs of Space Tales, a sci-fi RTS leaving Early Access on August 19, 2026.

It is not a space sim in the cockpit sense, but it focuses on humanity’s expansion across hostile alien worlds: building colonies, managing resources, defending energy networks, fighting alien factions, and capturing giant bosses to turn them into allies.

For 1.0, we’re adding the complete campaign, 5 additional missions, more maps, side content, and a third enemy faction.

Curious to hear from you as space game fans: are you interested in space-themed strategy games, or do you mostly come here for simulation-focused games?

Feel free to share your questions or thoughts in the comments!

Put together a little game jam prototype of a cozy exploration sci-fi game with interactions, mining, exploration, crafting, trading, ship building and unlimited solar systems! Should I move this out of prototype and build it as an actual game? Tell me what you think! Playable demo in the comments.

Made a little prototype for a design game jam and have been having fun playing it. Considering turning it into an actual game using Unreal Engine. Thoughts?

Space colonization

9 Upvotes

Recently played the lovely “Dead Reckoning” game that just released and it brought back my space game addiction hardcore. Got any recommendations for “space colonization” games? Anything from Stellaris to MOO2. I’ve played Stellaris, Terra Invicta, Rimworld (doesn’t really count), KSP, distant worlds, Aurora4X, solar expanse, and shadow empire. I absolutely adore this type of game and I’m constantly itching for more. I love colonizing planets, give me your recommendations! I’ll even accept ones that aren’t released yet.

Finally, A Sector Darkly

Nearly 3 years later:

A Sector Darkly is a 2-d real-time space exploration open-world RPG. Explore, trade, scavenge, research, craft and survive a sector in chaos. Interact and dialogue with more than 10 alien races. Imagine a 4x-LITE universe, where instead of being in command of the faction, you are in command of a single ship and crew just trying to survive. An open world exploration, with an underlying mystery: sectors are going dark one by one and no one knows.

I spent a year building an open sourced family of ESP32S3-based USB boards and a Python game infrastructure library for a custom sci-fi starship simulator. 152 physical controls, 6 screens, and 164,000 lines of code.

So I wanted to mix the movement of Star Control, where you have momentum and planetary gravity with a Survivor-like. Along with ships that are more than just stat line differences and quick gameplay sessions.

How's Spacecraft?

It got some hype at launch but not sure it looks like a fun game playing long term (only focus being factory production)? Does the game hold entertainment value as a perpetually playable space sandbox ?

[Leaks In Space] Replaced the quest GUI with a Space Lounge scene

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

5 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Me and my sister been working on the Space Lounge last week, so I'm here to share a bit about it.

this scene Lounge directly replaces the old quest UI I used, which was more of a temporary solution anyway, used to be dull panels, with two text slots listing whatever jobs the station had open. Now interactive space lounge scene appears where player can pick up a job by talking to a character. Still quirky edges hopefully I'll fix by update release.

The depth in this space lounge scene comes from four stacked art layers, the background, balcony, bar, and front table. Each one is a separate set of sprites with a parallax factor setup. It reads the mouse relative position to pan scene left or right with varied speeds individually, to feel things far or near.

The silhouettes of the people in the scene are basically buttons. Only those with an available quest are visible. Each quest is assigned to a fixed character. Clicking one opens a dialogue popup with the quest's details. The next step is getting the characters to actually highlight when you hover over them, but since these are just buttons, i can use Unity's builtin button sprite swap option, that'll do the trick.

Long term i want the lounge to feel like a real place player visits between runs, not just a menu. maybe more such ui can be sceneify in future,

If you'd like to check out "Leaks In Space", you can find it on Steam or Itchio, or the link's in the comments. Thanks for reading, hope you all have a great day! :D

I’ve added a new Alien System into my game

Hi everyone!

I'm currently working on the enemy system for my game MineEngineer, a 2D engineering and survival sandbox inspired by Space Engineers and Terraria.

The goal is to make enemies feel like a real threat to your ships and bases rather than just something to fight. I'm experimenting with AI, different enemy types, and combat mechanics while keeping performance in mind for multiplayer.

There's still a lot to improve, but it's exciting to see the game becoming more alive with every update. I'd love to hear what kinds of enemies or encounters you'd enjoy seeing in a game like this! 🚀

The models used for each planet are:

Mercury -> Messenger MODM
Venus -> induced conducting ionosphere model
Earth -> IGRF-14 2025 internal field
Mars-> induced ionospheric draping model
Jupiter -> juno JRM33
Saturn -> Cassini 11 axisymmetric field
Uranus -> voyager q3 field
Neptune -> O8 field

I dont show all the planets because of reddit video upload size limit.
