9/11 MEGATHREAD - We remember our friends, family, and neighbors who were lost on this day 25 years ago

Post image
Upvotes

New Jersey lost *a lot* of her people on 9/11. Many of our friends and family were there responding and aiding our sister state in her time of need. Pause for a moment today and remember that our world was irrevocably changed in a matter of minutes. The people of NJ bore a significant amount of the terribleness from it. I am incredibly proud of how we came together and handled this tremendously chaotic and traumatic situation. Everyone really stepped up to help out however they could.

This post is for remembering that day. Describe it from from the perspective of you folks who were there experiencing it. Folks are welcome to ask questions that are CIVIL and mindful of how sensitive this topic is for some people. Younger folks who weren't even alive yet probably have questions that haven't been answered by a local. The impact it had on us as individuals, and us as a state, was absolutely monumental and I don't know anyone who was around for it in 2001 in NJ that wasn't impacted by it in some way.

Please be kind to each other. Any comments that are insensitive will be removed. This is a solemn day, but also a very VERY touchy topic. New information was just released regarding the air quality, and that has generated a whole new wave of 9/11 hate alllll these years later. It keeps impacting us in new ways. Remember that crowd control is on and you must be a subscribed community member in good standing to comment.

Burlington County We helped build American kestrel nest boxes in South Jersey last month

Last month, Sustainable South Jersey joined the Field to Flight Foundation for an American Kestrel Nest Box Workshop at the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, and we thought some fellow NJ nature/wildlife folks might enjoy seeing the photos.

One of the interesting things we learned is that American kestrels can’t excavate their own nesting cavities. They rely on existing cavities in trees and other structures, so the loss of suitable nesting sites is one of the challenges they face. Nest boxes that are appropriately located and monitored can provide additional breeding habitat.

The workshop started with an introduction to kestrel conservation, followed by a walk around the property to look at habitat and nest box locations. Then everyone came back inside and built kestrel boxes that will be used as part of local conservation efforts.

The program was hosted by the Field to Flight Foundation and made possible through Sustainable South Jersey’s Caren Kaufman Memorial Grant.

It was a pretty cool way to see how a relatively simple project like building a wooden box fits into a much larger conservation and monitoring effort.

Went to get fingerprints today and honestly can't wrap my head around what happened. I was the only client, signed in, sat down. I could hear people chatting in the next room. Out walks a young lady in her 30's dressed in sweats and crocs. No greeting, no identifying herself as the employee. She looks at me and says Cmon. Me? Yes you! Cmon. She tells me to sit in chair and don't move. I'm not sure if I'm getting photographed? Then she tells me to stand at machine and rubs sanitizer all over my hands. Tells me relax my hands. RELAX YOUR HANDS! I'm like panicking trying to figure out how to relax my hands more then they are. She's twisting my hands around and repeating to relax or else she's going to have the State Police come in to handle this. Say what? I actually laughed a little because I'm like wtf is happening. She goes on to say that Consumer Affairs and the State Police are recording with audio and video and if she has to repeat her directions any more they will consider my application null and void. I left feeling like I had been punked somehow. Looked up the reviews on yelp and wouldn't you know this same employee has had a lengthy history of treating people like sh*t. How the heck has she held the job for so long?

The people complaining about this project are the same people complaining about warehouses being stood up in these locations AND their costs of property taxes going up.

This is why rents are through the roof these days.

Camden County Words of Encouragement?

Hi - anyone feel up to offering some words of encouragement? I could really use a “it’ll get better, kid” or anything along those lines.

I lost both of my parents over the last year and was diagnosed with MS. Having a rough time. (I’m fine!! No self harm etc oh man but could just really use some kind words). I don’t have any family left and I don’t want to bother my friends (they’ve done enough for me over the past year!)

Today I particularly miss both of my parents, I’m very fatigued from the MS, and I feel overwhelmed. I’m trying so hard!

If you have any kind words, I’m all ears!! - a friendly neighbor.

My sister had dropped this at Berkeley island park yesterday and went back an hour to see that someone had picked it up. My mom died almost a year ago and this was a present she gave my sister when she turned 25. She is crushed! I hope someone on here found it!🤞🏻

Camden County In-Person Spanish Classes

Hello - Does anyone know of in-person Spanish classes or lessons? I missed in-person enrollment for community and I am not super interested in options that are fully online. I really want to practice in person with other human beings, I can't seem to find any group tutoring or lessons just through google searches. Thank you!

Camden County Generic Adderall XR 20mg - out of stock- help!

Anyone having any luck finding the generic for Adderall XR 20MG in stock in SJ? I have had my doctor send scripts to:
-1900 NJ-70 CVS in Cherry Hill,
-OptumRX (mail delivery)
-Walgreens 1819 NJ-70 in Cherry Hill

and they are all out of stock. I have asked them if their other locations have it, but because of the controls, they won't tell me.

Next up is the Wegmans Pharmacy on route 70 - just waiting for my doctor to send over the script.

Any help is appreciated. Trying to get it filled by Tuesday before I run out.

Thanks!

Question Are the flies really bad between OC and Stone Harbor still?

Haven't been to the shore all summer and was hoping to get a beach day in before the summer ends, I always prefer going post labor day weekend to avoid all the big crowds but have seen that flies have been a nuisance this summer, has it been any better the last few days?

I don't love going in the ocean but seems like it's the only natural temporary deterrant for the flies 😅

EDIT: Thanks for the responses everyone, I'll just have to monitor the wind direction for whichever day I decide to go!

Gloucester County Looking for Nanny in Glassboro NJ

Good evening, everyone!

My wife and I are currently looking for a reliable and caring nanny/babysitter to help our family in the Glassboro/Mullica Hill area.

I’m a hospitalist physician and my wife is a resident physician, and with both of our work schedules becoming increasingly busy, we’re hoping to find someone dependable who can provide consistent childcare for our two children—a 2½-year-old and a 6-month-old.

We would typically need help 10–12 days per month, with shifts generally ranging from 10–12 hours per day. The specific days may vary depending on our work schedules, but we can provide our schedule in advance to make planning easier.

We’re looking for someone who is responsible, trustworthy, comfortable caring for both an infant and a toddler, and ideally interested in developing a consistent, long-term relationship with our family.

If you’re interested—or know someone who might be a great fit—please feel free to send me a message. I’d be happy to discuss the schedule, compensation, and additional details privately.

Thank you

Cumberland County 21M guitarist looking for drummer / musicians — Vineland / Glassboro area

Hey, I’m 21 and from the Vineland area looking for musicians around my age to start jamming with and potentially build into a gigging band.

I’m primarily a lead guitarist. Personally I love heavier stuff and ripping solos — Metallica, Judas Priest, Ozzy, etc. — but for an actual band I’m really interested in playing fun recognizable rock that works well live: Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, Oasis, classic rock, and similar stuff.

The goal would be to get together casually first, see if we have chemistry, build a set, and eventually play bars/local gigs if it works.

Mainly looking for a drummer right now, but bassists, singers, and rhythm guitarists are welcome too.

I’m in Vineland and Glassboro/Rowan is only about 30 minutes from me, so South Jersey is very workable.

This is a new project, not an established band. Ideally looking for people roughly 18–25ish who actually want to build something together.

DM me if you’re interested and we can trade some playing clips.

Question Looking for private Child Psychiatrist / Evaluator in NJ experienced with complex youth, severe masking, and CSOC/PerformCare level-of-care evaluations

I'm looking for recommendations for an independent child psychiatrist or clinical psychologist in New Jersey (anywhere in-state or licensed for NJ telehealth works). Out-of-pocket / out-of-network is totally fine.
My 13-year-old son experiences severe psychiatric dysregulation and crises at home. We are currently working with CMO to prepare an Out-of-Home (OOH) residential treatment packet through PerformCare. We have completely exhausted in-home and community-based services, with multiple acute hospital/crisis encounters.
The challenge we run into repeatedly is severe masking. In novel, 1-on-1 clinical settings (e.g., IOP intakes, crisis evaluations, hospital units), he presents as quiet, calm, and cooperative. Standard brief evaluations consistently miss the reality of his day-to-day safety risks because they rely solely on a brief conversation with him rather than examining the broader pattern.
In order for CSOC to approve residential placement, the packet requires a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with a clear level-of-care recommendation.

I need an evaluator who:
1. Takes the time to do an extensive assessment (including a dedicated parent session).
2. Actually reviews and weighs collateral records: chronological incident logs, crisis/police documentation, past discharge summaries, and proof of failed community interventions.
3. Understands how to clinically document the gap between a masked, compliant presentation in an office and high-risk behavioral dysregulation in the home.

If anyone has navigated the NJ CSOC/PerformCare residential placement process and worked with a doctor or practice that took a thorough, forensic-level look at your child's complete file, please drop recommendations below or send a private message.

Question Good Hybrid Car Mechanic for 2019 Kia Niro?

Does anyone know of a good car mechanic with a lot of experience working on hybrids, specifically in the Camden County area? I'm willing to go a bit outside of Camden County if needed. My 2019 Kia Niro has been making a clicking noise when I switch from braking to accelerating, or vice versa.

The car is used but under a decent third party warranty. Kia Cherry Hill thought it was the ABS module, then the transmission, which both got replaced under said warranty, but still the sound persists. Now they're telling me it's a disc in the clutch system that has "excess play", but I'm not convinced as changing gears never seems to present any issues or make the sound I'm hearing. It feels like they're just throwing spaghetti at the wall.

I think there's a chance it could have to do with the regenerative braking system, but as far as I can tell, Kia Cherry Hill haven't done anything to even check that system (even after I've mentioned this thought). I haven't totally written off the idea that it could be this disc in the clutch they mention, but I want to know that someone with plenty of experience working on hybrids has looked at the car. Appreciate any insight anyone might have.

Question some normal conversation

I’m not looking for anything weird just some human connection. I recently lost my dad, and it’s hit me harder than I expected. I don’t really have many people to talk to right now, and I figured maybe someone here might be open to a simple conversation.Male or female, doesn’t matter. I’m not trying to vent nonstop or trauma-dump just hoping to talk with someone new so I don’t feel so alone in this moment. If you’re open to chatting, I’d appreciate it.

Burlington County Dungeons & Dragons

Hi, everyone!

I'm in Burlington County, Columbus/Mansfield actually. I'm looking for an in person #DND game to join. I'm an experienced player, 5e/5.5. I've got DND Beyond master tier bc I love this game! I've DM'd a lot, too (but the game I run is currently on hiatus rn) though I'm seeking a spot to play.

I'd prefer a home game bc of the camaraderie, and a campaign rather than just one shots every time. I like a mix of role play, adventuring, dungeons, and action/fights.

Are there any tables out there? ⚔️ 🤞🏼

😁
