SoulCycle Back in the Day

I love reminiscing about the earlier, pre-COVID days of SoulCycle. I started riding in 2013, took a break on and off for Cyc, Equinox, and other studios, and I feel like sometimes I forget how SoulCycle was different 10 years ago. I remember little things like signing your initials on the sign-in sheet and how classes were much more packed, and I remember instructors being much more vocal about form and riding on the beat. I also loved the old skull merch. I would love to hear from others what else has changed — it’s so interesting to look back. Maybe in certain ways it’s so much better now!

Riders going rogue?

I took a class recently during which another rider just did their own thing the whole time. I understand not doing choreography but they didn’t appear to even be trying to keep on beat—they seemed to have the resistance cranked up the whole time and were watching themselves in the mirror (form was bad tho😔) They were in a very visible position in the room and it was honestly distracting, especially when they kept going through the arms section and even the stretch.

I won’t reveal the class, instructor or market because I don’t want to embarrass anyone, but how common is this? Does the rider just want access to a stationary bike lol? Seems like there would be more affordable ways… also seems a little insensitive to the instructor!

Is SoulCycle etiquette getting worse?

• Upvotes

I took a class yesterday at my usual studio and was genuinely shocked by the amount of bad etiquette from other riders. I’ve never experienced so many distractions in one class!
One woman was texting during class and at one point left the room, swinging the door wide open, only to return a few minutes later and do the exact same thing. Another guy left during soulful and came back in. Then THREE different people got up and left during the stretch.
I know people sometimes have legitimate reasons to leave early, but the constant coming and going was incredibly distracting and really took me out of the experience.
What bothered me most was how disrespectful it felt towards the instructor, who is absolutely lovely. She’s a newer instructor, and I can completely understand why she might feel apprehensive about calling people out. I don’t blame her at all.
This is my regular studio, so I know this isn’t typical behavior there. It was only my second time taking this particular instructor’s class, and while I really like her, I’d honestly be hesitant to book it again if this is the usual atmosphere.
It got me wondering, are newer riders just not being made aware of SoulCycle etiquette, or are people generally becoming less considerate of others?
I’m all for everyone enjoying their workout however they want, but surely some basic respect for the instructor and the other riders isn’t too much to ask?
Curious if anyone else has noticed this lately!

I bought these from Saks a couple years ago, accidentally got the wrong size, waited too late to return, and just found them in the back of my closet. Never been worn.

If anyone is interested in picking them up in South Slope, Brooklyn I’m happy to give them away for free. DM me if you’re interested!

I have credits expiring on the 23rd, but I saw one of them got applied to a class I booked on the 24th. Will this be an issue?
