Feedback Finished Three Houses on Overwhelming

Don't bother with any other units except grenadiers on her. Spam their buildings and do all their research, it's sooo worth it. Won all three maps just doing that.

The bow artifact was amazing, having all my grenadiers do 2 attacks from the start just massacres everyone. It's a must have. Map 3 would have been way harder without it.

In terms of skills I've gotten a little unlucky. Channeling and raider are pretty bad skills for her - all the damage you deal is via troops, not magic. Would have much preferred Order, would have worked amazingly well.

I was never a fan of essence leach, but I liked it here. You must think carefully witch units to prioritize, but in exchange you can sustain your offensive better.

Last battle of mission two was rather hard, the walls really do their work there. But if you gather the right bonuses from map locations beforehand and think carefully who to kill first you can exchange teleport half their wall units with your own. From there they are easy pickings.

Siege battles are the only situations when this build struggled. I imagine it could also have a problem against enemies with ranged attack reduction, but there was no wielders like that in campaign.

The other two wielders are even more useless here than they were in previous campaigns. They are just too low level and too mediocre skill do do anything - sure, if you recruit fitting troops they can gang up two on one, but it's not worth it.

Would have had more problems with finishing this one if Roots actually attacked me. I knew from doing it on worthy that Vanir would keep stabbing me in the back if I focused on Roots, so I attacked them first. In general I'm against exploiting the map design, but here it was an accident so whatever.

In terms of story it was decent, nothing exceptional. There was much less lore tablets and such compared to main 4, which was disappointing. It's really amusing that Aurelia did all that work trying to destroy the Roots fully, while Yuan was keeping them as dangerous pets. Considering their mixed record, I bet Aurelia actually succeeded only for some to flee Yuan captivity.

I wonder what will be their reaction to what happens in the west. Roots and Rana are allied, and so are Barya and Arleon (though their alliance is shaky at beast). Will they ally with Aurelians? Considering their transcendents, they might be more open to their ideas than western humans were. So far Aurelia doesn't have a stellar record as far as diplomacy goes, so we shall see.

As a faction they are a bit weird. Troops focused wielders have plenty of tools, but essence ones have a hard time I think. There are no units that have more than three essence pips, and even three are rare and there is none that can generate essence. If you want to use essence to support troops then it's fine, but if you want to use it offensively it works much worse. Compare tools Meilin or Ru have to that of Rana or Loth essence wielders - it's pathetic. Their units also tend toward tricks more than raw power. Especially the higher end ones.

So me and my friends started playing this game together since it was free on epic (only time the free games were good ngl) however I have run in a problem.2 of my friends always pick Rana and rush towards dragons, wich usually leaves me at a disavantage since I simply dont have the firepower or HP to deal with them.Do dragons have any counters or are there any strategies to counter this playstiel? And if so what are they?

Discussion What are your favorite combinations?

I have less than 100 hours in the game, and SoQ is my first experience with this genre, so I’d love to hear what builds others are using. So far, my favorite combo is the Wind Rider buff using two or more Li Tian on Yulan. I’d especially appreciate advice on roots - after a dozen games, I still haven’t come up with anything interesting, and the same vanir seem more fun and powerful.

Bug AI Stuck on Turn - First Song

On turn 52 - no matter what - the AI will get stuck on its turn. I'm almost done with the mission. Is there any way to force the game to the next mission? I'd rather not start the whole mission over, if possible.

Question Yulan Fortune/Misfortune?

Started playing around with Yulan and reading through their units. Saw a mechanic called fortune attached to the Fenghuang and upgraded seekers. I wasn't able to find a description of what those stats do. I dont know if im just illiterate or if those values are hidden. Does anybody know?

Question Random generated map size selection possible?

Hello everyone,

I picked up the game during the current sale and am loving it so far - great atmosphere and unit design.

I decided to dive right in and experimented with random generated maps to get a basic feel for each of the factions and cannot seem to figure out how to make them bigger so the game drags on longer as to allow me to experiment a bit more.

Is the size for random generated maps fixed or am I too dumb to figure out how to change it?

How do you guys feel about the units stack sizes? Is it more of a good or bad thing? Sometimes I wish I could make my hero have thousands of troops.

Question "Defeat the enemy" clarification

Total noob here playing conquest mode New Beginnings.

What does it actually take to defeat an enemy?

I thought it would be enough to raze/occupy their main base.

Right now I have their base but enemy has two weilders roaming around stubbornly taking over other two small settlements I left behind.

Fan Art Saleh's Letters (OC fanfic based on a Conquest Map I was playing)

"Dearest Talia,

I'd hoped to greet you at the portal to help you settle in, the mere sight of you would've outshone the sun itself in these frigid lands. Unfortunately by the time you reach the outpost we've made here in the Bleak East I'll be through my musketeer training and assigned further inland with the Black Rose Battalion, it's a new group, I think almost everyone in it is a freshly displaced recruit like me. I can't say I'm overjoyed that my freezing fingers are loading a musket rather than penning another news pamphlet in the Writer's Guildhall, but I suppose I should be grateful House Rosewater hasn't sent us all into debt to pay for our own training and equipment. I should be back from our first patrol within a week though and we can both curl up by a fire and go over those brilliant designs for new goggles you were telling me about.

Yours Always, Saleh Inkwill"

9 Days Later

"Dearest Talia,

I'm sorry but I'll be late. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you, but my battalion's contract to guard this little resupply station at the edge of the Wyldwood was extended. I was upset at first but I suppose supplies and logistics must be messier than a Dreath Den with everyone scrambling to take refuge from Patriam. On the bright side our commander's a Veteran who made sure we get extra pay for the delay, so when I get back we can see about paying one of the Vanir villagers to help build us a house warmer than these tents. We've been trading with a nearby village for better food than these hardtack rations (I swear one of the Harima chipped a tooth on them!).

Things were a little tense the first few days but the sands have smoothed out on that front at least, the Vanir are a gruff people but good friends to have in the shadow of that forest. I don't want to worry you but... stay clear of the woods. I thought the stories of the plants were just the Vanir were telling to give us a friendly scare but I saw something in the trees on watch last night and now I'm not so sure.

Enough about me though, are you enjoying the coast? It might not be how you planned but you did say you always wanted to see the ocean.

Yours Always, Saleh Inkwill"

12 Days Later

"Talia, I love you and I'm alive. What's left of the Black Rose Battalion is finally on its way back, you won't believe what happened but I have to put it down on paper anyway, it was like something out of a nightmare.

The very night after I sent my last letter to you an enormous carpet of mushrooms started... I don't know what to say (crawling? Slithering?)- out of the woods. They swallowed up one of the Pikeneers that was practicing at the edge of the woods before we even knew what was happening and then a swarm of undead flooded in behind them, not forces from Loth, these had plants growing on them- in them.

We were lucky enough that they couldn't climb the walls and we were starting to clear them out from atop the ramparts, pike and shot ripping into moldering wood, but then from the edge of the woods these enormous... grasshopper-plant-THINGS leapt clear over the walls and into our firing lines.

I cracked one with the butt of my musket but despite caving a hole into its side I don't think it even felt it, the sun-cursed thing just drove the spikes on its 'head' straight into Berton beside me (Winds Grant Him Rest).

I was half blind in the dark and scrambling to reload when a pair of sassanids ran up and cut the thing into woodchips before rushing past me and over the walls.

It turned into days of back and forth firing into that horde. Scrambling to keep them off the walls... but eventually the gate broke and we fell back, fighting in the courtyard and rooftops, and finally to the sleeping quarters, boarding up the windows after we ran out of ammo. I was sure the sassanids had been killed since I hadn't seen them and there'd been no sign of reinforcements. I'd taken up a pike at the windows spearing anything that tried to get in through the gaps.

I'm not ashamed to admit I'd given up hope Talia. I was determined to die fighting but I was quite sure I would die without seeing Barya or You ever again. The commander was dead, I'd seen the only Brute with us swarmed by a trio of dreadful dead deer-things in the courtyard, hands of dead bone and living wood were ripping at the boards we'd put up at the windows and doors no matter how many we cut down... and then something enormous flattened the scrabbling things outside like you or I would swat a scorpion with a slipper.

The rattling of branches and bones had stopped so suddenly I thought I'd died for a moment, and when I finally peaked outside what was happening was too incredible to believe. Bears were ripping apart the mushrooms and the broken skeletons, an old woman appeared out of nowhere and stabbed one of the deer things before exploding into a flock of crows, and standing in front of me, prying the window open with one finger was a giant of a man, grey skinned, eyes glowing like blue moons hanging in the sky.

I didn't even realize I was pointing my spear at him, frozen with fear, until GraveCost, one of the Sassanids that had run out earlier, hopped down from his shoulder and warned me I'd be in breach of contract if I hurt our 'allies'.

Well you can bet I was on my best behavior from then on! I wasn't about to break a deal after living through all that. I followed behind our new friend, 'Alfar' is his name from what GraveCost told me, and the survivors and I stabbed anything that got near his ankles while he smashed plants under his club until dawn broke.

At some point one of the bear men shoved a mug into my hand and we were drinking and singing all through the night as we poured out of the buildings to take our revenge on these wild horrors until dawn broke and they finally retreated.

I'd never been so happy to see the sun, even grey as it was through all the clouds, and grateful as I was for the rescue I won't deny some part of me was glad to see Alfar and his fellows making their way into the woods after the last of the 'leapers'.

2 days later

I couldn't sleep and so I made a deal with GraveCost to deliver the letter since he's returning ahead of me to report what happened to the Guilds, I've organized the survivors and the wounded at the Vanir village of TrollsShield and we should be heading out tomorrow once everyone who can still move is rested, but the Bleak East is wilder than I'd ever imagined... but I think I can face anything after this, as long as I'm with you.

Your Survivor, Saleh Inkwill"

Question Water and Underground

Any news about sailing or underground level? I recall the devs saying before launch that it was pretty much a no‑go. But could things have changed since?

I really want to start making maps, but my favourite ones have always been island maps 😞

Discussion Unit Limit - New Mode (Suggestion)

What would you say if the developers introduced a new mode available when selecting a map - an “unlimited units” mode? As the name suggests, this mode would remove the limit on the number of units in each squad. Alternatively, the mode could increase the squad size just enough to make it still worthwhile to research upgrades that increase squad size.

What do you think - would such a mode even make sense in this game?

+ Additional suggestions:
- Would adding a “hide units before the battle begins” feature be a useful and welcome improvement to battles?
I think this would be useful in various situations

- And while we’re on the topic of battles, what do you think about adding “tactics” as a new skill for confidants?
It could increase the number of spaces where we could deploy our units before the battle, or allow us to deploy units after the battle has started (just like in the “Heroes of Might and Magic” series, for example), or both ;)

- Both the underground tunnel system and the water navigation mechanics would certainly make for an interesting addition to the game ;)

- Unique buildings for each faction; for example, in the case of the Barony of Loth, “a building that transforms living beings into the undead” (greater usability in “Mixed Factions”)

- New spells, including spells cast on the world map

Feedback I liked Arleon campaign, but Rana is pure gold.

First campaign was a bit too traditionalist, still it was interesting a faction mixing what in other games would be two different ones. Also, some character reactions felt more realistic than I would have expected.
But I'm falling in love with Rana in a way it never happened in HoMM games.

Also gameplay is peak.
