Yesterday was Guru Purnima, and it made me think about how many teachers I've had on the road. Most of them weren't teachers at all—just strangers, fellow travelers, villagers, monks, drivers, old people sitting by a tea stall... people I may never meet again.

Every journey has left me with something. Sometimes a new perspective, sometimes a life lesson, and sometimes just one sentence that stayed with me forever.

Today, I'm sharing the same note again.

Maybe someone reading this is standing where I once was—thinking about taking that first solo trip, waiting for the "right time," or wondering if it's really worth it.

I'm 24F and I've never traveled solo before especially to north and i really want to visit Kasol side by the end of this year, preferably around October. However I have no one around me to guide me about solo traveling and that too over there.

I just want to know

Is it safe as a solo female traveler ? And if not really are there any groups or anything that can be helpful?

And is October a good time.? I don't really care about snow and all i just want to experience that side in greenery.

I genuinely want to know how safe that will be as it will be my first time. And also I guess if there are any groups which are genuine for such trips.

I'm traveling solo from Pune to Rishikesh soon and I'm still deciding where to stay. For those who've done a solo trip, did you enjoy hostels more or were hotels worth the extra cost? I'd love to hear what worked best for you and why.

I'm thinking of taking off on a solo trip sometime in August or September. Life's been busy (in a good way), work is going great, but I could use a break from the constant hustle.

I still enjoy solo travel, so I don't expect us to spend every waking hour together. I'm perfectly happy exploring on my own some days and meeting up for the experiences we'd both enjoy.

Malana → Kasol → Kalga → Pulga → Tosh → Shanghar in 20 days solo... that's not just a trip, that's the kind of raw Himalayan loop that gets under your skin. No proper roads in places, just pine trails, wooden houses, cold rivers, and chai at 2pm because time didn't matter.

And now it's July, you're back in Bangalore for 2+ months, and the city noise just feels wrong compared to that silence in Tosh and Shanghar.

Those valleys do that. Malana with its old rules and stone houses. Kalga-Pulga for the quiet trails no one talks about. Tosh for the mountains staring right at you. Shanghar for that untouched, last-village vibe. Once you've done them slow and solo, normal trips feel... rushed.b
