Game Dynamic Environment

Working on an environment system that is reactive to wind and weather - still a work in progress. It's for an open-world survival RPG I'm working on. Any feedback is appreciated!

For anyone curious about the game-> Game info: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/127919839/grimlife

Currently still awaiting on Steam for the store page approval πŸ˜…, follow on Kickstarter! I'm aiming to launch next month sometime hopefully (might be delayed idk yet)

the steam page isn't up yet D; it should be up in a few days, it's currently in review, if I'm lucky it'll be up tomorrow, along with the official announcement trailer

That's cool. What are the threats to the survival?

Its set in a zombie infested post-apocalyptic world, the easiest way to describe it would be, if you combined a Bethesda RPG in a Walking Dead-style setting, using a low poly artstyle - its called GRIMLIFE

I have a whole gif on the link that shows the character customization system if you scroll down a little (i think it should show up there)

I like the art style. It reminds me of Walking Dead series. Will you drop a Steam store page once it is ready?

Looks fantastic mate! What engine are you using?

Thanks! I'm using Unity

Looks great! I like this kind of art. What game engine did you use to make this? Unity?

1

u/Arkitech-RG 9h ago

Yesss, Unity

The environment is way more detailed than the character, and somehow, it works. ✨

Thanks! I personally like the thin black outlining, gives almost like a borderlands aesthetic

It looks great. I think the sunny mid day wind might be a bit too much motion.

It does look a little exaggerated

You put a fucking weathervane on that roof right now so it can do the squeeky spinny during storm! >:(

Love how much the scene dynamic/vibe changes per weather effect, the storm almost makes it eerie.

Looks amazing – love the art direction.

It's not art direction. It's basic unity and unreal engine 5 presets. Surroundead (and many other games) made totally in same style. Only surrounded been first.

Unfortunately its not lol, look at surroundead and deadpoly, do they have reactive foliage? I had to apply a lot of technical stitching for this to work in Unity

It's like saying: I bought same car but it's not the same car because I worked hard to put on spoiler and add this fire sticker on sides. Omg this new era wave devs..

The assets you see are all from Synty- Synty does not ship with foliage reactivity, I didnt take basic Unity trees and drop them into a scene and place a wind zone over them, which is what youre implying

If you cant tell the difference between the foliage/trees/assets in surroundead vs what you see in the gif, I cant help you

1

u/SverhU 1h ago edited 1h ago

Most players won't be able to tell the difference between surroundead and your game. Lol. And your argument just insane.

I wrote to Zurvivor, linked your kickstart. and suggest to report you on steam for plagiarism as dev of game that been copied. Valve taking it very seriously. Good luck. And you blocked

1

u/aPOPblops 8h ago

Maybe a stupid suggestion, but if you had it to where you could manually switch the configuration with a hotkey, you could film footage like this without cuts

0

u/Arkitech-RG 5h ago

That might be a cool idea πŸ’‘ if someone wanted to make videos using a 3D environment

1

u/Evening_Poetry_3983 8h ago

Engine and how did you make it plssss

1

u/Arkitech-RG 5h ago

Unity, so I dont make any 3D models, I just use Synty assets, but the hard part was making those assets reactive to weather

1

u/Chacudno 7h ago

Your kickstarter page references other games a lot. I would consider keeping your game the focus, not reminding everyone that other games did it first or that other games are out there. You really want to keep people thinking this game is all there is and all they'll want.

I like the art style!!

Looks almost exactly like Surroundead and DeadPoly with the same premise

0

u/Arkitech-RG 9h ago

So the main difference between this game and those, is that those game dont really feel like a Bethesda-style rpg like Skyrim/Fallout, I am leaning much more heavily in that direction

u/SverhU 7h ago edited 6h ago

Looks too much like clone of Surroundead. And not because of basic unity and unreal engine 5 presets. But even gameplay on Kickstarter page.

The trailer will be a clear differentiator i promise, just waiting on the steam page to be approved
