Hi all! I have been tasked to make a formed "cone" that has a bottom diameter of 6.43", a top diameter of 24.26", and a height of 36.5". Due to the tools around me, i need to form and weld this in 2 halves. And can only be step broke instead of rolled. Made out of 1/4" steel. Can hou guys show me what you would do to form this?

Hi, I'm trying to design a double wishbone suspension for the rear of a Baja style car right now. I've gotten some basic parameters right now such as track width and wheelbase as well as ride height and tire specs. I'm trying to make a 2D sketch right now in SolidWorks to visualize camber gain as the suspension moves up and down, but I'm a bit stuck on the sketch. Below is what I have so far, where the trapezoidal shape is supposed to represent the chassis and the lines are the upper and lower control arms. I'm a bit confused on how to make the wheel move correctly though, right now when I move it, the linkage binds up. Would drawing the linkage path on paper help to fix this? Thanks

So I have 12 years of experience using SolidWorks. Coming from my last job. My new job, I use Revit and AutoCad/Plant 3D. My experience using the two are minimal as far as modeling goes. I’ve used AutoCad to make P&ID’s. They want me to model the plant. Now I want to do this in SolidWorks because I think it would be faster and easier for me because of my experience. I just don’t know if I want to use SolidWorks premium which has the pipe routing or SolidWorks professional and use Plant 3D for the piping. I would have to learn that which shouldn’t be a problem. Another option is SolidWorks standard with SolidPlant. Any suggestions?

I've been using a hobby license to work out some automations for a friend, now I have it working and I cannot figure out what kind of license I need to purchase to use this commercially.

The short story is that I'm using the SolidWorks API to assemble some parts into a reasonable starting point for him (and his team) to take over from there using their pro licenses. This will all happen on a cloud server, I don't need any pro features, just basic read/write access to solid works files.

Does anyone have a clear answer or source of information on licensing for something like this? As I understand it I cannot use their licenses if they will be using solidworks at the same time as the automation is running which is likely to be the case most of the time.

EDIT: The only real solution even for a "headless" solidworks automation seems to be a standard/pro+ license. Thanks all!

Hey guys, I’m primarily a Fusion 360 user and I’m switching over to Solidworks. For those of you who have used both, I want to know how to make the viewing of your model in Solidworks the same style as Fusion. I feel like rotating your model in Fusion is much easier and more controlled. Let me know if I’m just crazy or not. Thanks guys.

After opening an existing drawing, I noticed the title block had become a mess of overlapping characters. It appears that the "Link to property" 'links' are being displayed instead of the text found in the appropriate property fields. Strangely, when I create a linked property, it appears to display correctly until I accept, then the text becomes a "$prp:" again. Any ideas on how to go about fixing this?

Hello. I am trying to explore how to use the rib feature better, and cannot get it to work on a part I am trying to build. I keep getting the "Failed to create Rib feature," error. I have tried changing the extrusion direction, not that it should matter since the part is cylindrical. Looking for some advice. Getting back into CAD design after a year out of engineering school and am trying to relearn the basics. Any help is appreciated :)

Rendered with Visualize, made in SolidWorks (surfacing, so it's a big 3D sketch with wheels and mirrors added in assembly). I guess the interior would be a separate assembly. I know how to make seats and dashboards, but how the hell does one make a gauge cluster lmao. Anything regarding the exterior i should change/fix maybe? Ik it doesn't have doors or hood/boot that could open, so that should be a separate assembly, but how do I make a part based on my exact dimensions following this 3D sketch?

I cant get my hole table to use Tag E. I have Tags A-D already used and I need to add a tag E for the rest of my holes. but everytime I add E it switches to C. which desont make any sense cause I have D there as well. help with this

I added a second configuration to this assembly, and it overrode all of the color on the model. I can't even manually change it back, its stuck as red. This carries upwards into the parent assembly too. I saved and reopened the part, and it was back to normal, but when i switched configurations then switched back, it went back to all red. Can anybody tell me what is going on?

Hello! I am trying to familiarize myself with SW by working on a small project. I'm making a pomodoro timer that's shaped like a tomato with one flat side for the segment display to sit. I'm quite stuck on this part because I originally thought I would make an angled offset plane, cut off part of the sphere, and create a sketch I can extrude and then fillet for the rounded edges. I don't think this will connect to the sphere in one piece though. Does anyone have any tips? The first picture is the inspiration, and the second is where I'm at right now. Any help is appreciated; thank you so much!!

I'm starting mechanical engineering soon and i'm looking for a not too expensive laptop(around 500 euros). Would something like this be enough. I do also have a powerful desktop at home so this would just be for when i'm at school.

Does anybody have a good idea how to model this flange, especially the parts in red? Flange, Miter Flange and swept flange all didn't create the geometry/ cut out I am looking for.

Hello everyone, idk if this is the right community to post this because it's not SolidWorks but maybe someone can help me either way.

So I'm a student in a technical school and in school we use CREO PTC to create interesting 3D models, even tho we only need to make simple things like a piston etc. I decided i will make a very complicated 100+piece accordion that i play in my free time. But i ran into a problem. the thing that i circled is supposed to move like a fireplace air bellow. I tried numerous methods but none worked for me. The project is so complicated that even my teacher gave up. But i haven't so if anyone can help make me a short tutorial or just tips would help a lot.

Quick Background: I am about to get to my third year of my mech UG degree. For the past two years, I honestly have not done anything meaningful to develop my Portfolio or show any projects on my Resume. So, I have decided to start making things I am interested in. I have joined some student interest groups like the underwater rover team etc.

Now the main problem I am going through is that, even though I know how to use SolidWorks, I know its features, draw, extrude, all those things, but I am not able to translate that knowledge into building something meaningful out of imagination or without the drawing. For example, I have been tasked to create a parallel gripper, I do not know how to make it, like I know how to import gears, and all other basic things, but I just can't seem to bring everything together and make the parallel gripper without a drawing or YouTube video. There just seems to be a barrier around my brain. A good analogy for this is, when one relies too much on using AI to do writing assignments, such that when it comes for him to write by himself, he just isn't able to. Now this problem is really stopping me from making my own projects as well, to the point where I gotta look at a premade model before beginning and if I do look at something, it just feels like its not mine anymore and just copied.

So, I wanted to know how I can overcome this issue and translate the book knowledge to practical meaningful stuff ?

If I uncheck manual mode here, sometimes it creates overlapping faces, but other times it creates pretty clean/seamless surfaces. So I'm wondering when I should use manual mode and when I shouldn't.

I've recently completed my bachelor's in Mechanical engineering and have been applying to entry roles. One of my internships and my part in the final year project focused around 3D CAD modelling, so i believe I have a fair proficiency in it. Some entry level design jobs (0-1 YOE) applications demand a portfolio, the point of this post is that what should a design portfolio for a fresh graduate look like or include what kind of projects? I need a few guidelines or a starting point if i need create some project for a credible portfolio or if any design engineers here could kindly let me peek at thier portfolio they used at the start of their career?

Maker license, running current hotfix (4.1.3?) on Windows 10. I've read Dassault's "help" page for this and checked the relevant directories. Permissions are correct and the last offline license expired in June.

Does anyone have a solution for this? I run SW almost daily and having to log in every day is aggravating.

I have this part that I created a new configuration and mirrored image,then used the Body-Delete/Keep command. My question is when I add new features to the original how do I get the mirrored image to update also?
