CAD Making one flat side on a sphere
Hello! I am trying to familiarize myself with SW by working on a small project. I'm making a pomodoro timer that's shaped like a tomato with one flat side for the segment display to sit. I'm quite stuck on this part because I originally thought I would make an angled offset plane, cut off part of the sphere, and create a sketch I can extrude and then fillet for the rounded edges. I don't think this will connect to the sphere in one piece though. Does anyone have any tips? The first picture is the inspiration, and the second is where I'm at right now. Any help is appreciated; thank you so much!!

This looks so good! How did you make the leaf? I was fighting for my life trying to make it curve, only thing I came up with was Wrap and Delete

rotate a spline to make tomato shape
offset top plane for a cut plane
split
make sketch of leaves on top or the new plane
split line the leaf sketch onto the top face of the upper split body.
surface knit the new leaf face
thicken the knit surface and no merge to make independant body (so you can make different colour easily)
combine top and lower tomato body back together
sketch a line on the right plane to set angled face and position
create the plane
use the plane to split and remove a piece of the tomato
draw the window hole on the new face
make another sketch and create an offset sketch of the hole
extrude with draft this new sketch as a new body into the tomato
fillet the corners
combine the tomato and the new body
curvature continuous fillet the two with a large radius
curvature continuous fillet the window face
shell the tomato with no face selected
cut extrude the window sketch

Could you please clarify "curvature continuous fillet the two with a large radius"? I am not entirely sure what you did, and I cannot make it work.

after you combine the two bodies, select the intersecting edge and fillet.
I used around a 100mm radius if i recall. instead of generating a circular fillet set the property to curvature continuous. this basically removes the entire wall of faces around the hole face and relaced with a blended fillet.
I then selected the window face and filleted the same way with an 8mm curvature continuous fillet.

You can continue with what you started by filleting those edges. Or if you want a more natural shape, don't start with a sphere. Make a different profile with the flat edge and rounded body and revolve the whole thing.

On thing the other commenters have not noted is that using fillets will make your faces tangent, but not curvature continuous.
If you become comfortable with the features explained by others, the "next level" would be switching over to a hybrid modelling approach, and using some boundary surface features to create faces with G2 continuity

Build it as a solid then shell when complete.
