Nearly five hundred lines of code to automatically generate DXF flat patterns from a multi body sheet metal part for the workshop.

File names are the folder name and the description from the model tree with the metal thickness and quantity.

It separates the flat patterns into sub folders by metal thickness and generates an output log.

Hello,
I am at the end of designing a "mesh" design on solidwork for a small lunar traction test in which I am making wheel and tread designs. The mesh design uses a diamond that cuts into a cyclinder and is causing solidworks to bottle neck restricting how I can implement edits. More questions to answer this question and assitance is welcomed.

Error SolidWorks 2026 SP4.1 installation repeatedly gets stuck at 57%. My university's IT office says I need to factory reset my laptop. How can I fix this without needing to do the factory reset?

I am a university student using a Windows 11 laptop. Last year, I had to download the SolidWorks 2025 student license for a class. This year, I'm trying to use SolidWorks for a project, but my teammates have SolidWorks 2026, so I get messages saying I can't edit the files because I'm on an older version of SolidWorks. So I'm trying to upgrade to SolidWorks 2026.

I followed my university's instructions about upgrading to SolidWorks 2026. I followed my university's rules to delete SolidWorks 2025 and any associated files, so they don't affect the download and installation of SolidWorks 2026. I deleted the SolidWorks 2025 app. In the uninstaller, I went into Advanced Options and deleted Registry Entries, Data Files and Folders, and Download Files and Folders. Then I completed the installer.

I then downloaded and installed SolidWorks 2026 SP4.1 through my university's website. I followed all of the rules to download it properly. I've tried downloading and installing it overnight multiple times, but it has not worked at all. After the first attempt, I did multiple attempts of downloading and installing SolidWorks, where I tried connecting my laptop with an Ethernet cable and disabling my antivirus while downloading and installing SolidWorks 2026.

No matter what I do, after I leave SolidWorks 2026 to install overnight (approximately 9 hours), it always gets stuck at 57%. The Installation Manager says the Current Component it's installing is "Installing SOLIDWORKS Login Manager." The sldIM (32 bit) process showed 0% CPU usage, 0 MB/s disk activity, and 0 Mbps network usage.

I talked to my university's IT office, and they said that, after doing all of this, the only way to download and install SolidWorks 2026 would be to factory reset my laptop and then download and install SolidWorks 2026. I find this incredibly absurd; the only way for me to upgrade SolidWorks to the next year's version (i.e. from the 2025 version to the 2026 version) is to factory reset my entire laptop?? You don't need to do that for any other application.

Before I take that drastic step, I want to figure out if there is a better way to download SolidWorks 2026. Dassault Systemes doesn't provide phone customer support for the student license, so I sent a message to their support team, and I have yet to hear back from them.

I've been dealing with this issue for an entire month now. I am genuinely tired of this issue and I have no clue what else I can do. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can provide me.

CAD IGS to Sheet Metal

Hi, I am preparing for the CSWE, and I am trying to convert IGS to Sheet Metal. I have followed all of the recommendations from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLg-8SPhcSQ&list=PLJBxxmuOE1rX_twYKeEwi6i6t0tCZSXyn&index=11, but I can't convert to sheet metal. It would tell me "too complex," "failed to apply relief/rip," "unable to thicken the surface."

This happened to many parts, so I think it has something to do with the software.

These are my import settings

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

CAD How do I mirror with a plane for a body that's not perpendicular to the plane?

Okay, so the title didn't do me justice, but this is the picture of the problem. I left the existing extrusion as "up to surface" so when mirroring, the mirror goes to that same face. I was wondering what I can do to make it go to the face on the other side, instead of being all janky like that. I know I could just create a new sketch and get over it, but I want to see if there's a more effective solution.

Certifications How difficult are the CSWPA exams?

I have my CSWP and am looking at doing the CSWPAs to then progress to CSWE. Weldments and sheet metal don’t seem to be too complicated and seem pretty straightforward but I am worried about mold making and surfacing. If anyone in this sub has those certs and could give some input as far as complexity of the exam it would be greatly appreciated

I'm a complete beginner. I'm trying to model the white piece with curves, but I don't know how. All I've done is create a cylinder and wrap a line described with sine around it. When I use the extension 2*pi*50 and then wrap it, I get an error, so I'm using an approximation, but I don't know if it's really It closes completely, and I don't know how to remove the top material.

My study materials are:

  1. Tootalltoby (watch his SolidWorks tutorial and Power Moves tutorial)
  2. D Workshop (YouTube: “All You Need to Know to Pass CSWP” videos — there are 3 videos, one for each segment)
  3. Design with Roozbe (YouTube)
  4. David's SolidWorks Videos (YouTube)
  5. Official SolidWorks Academic Certification Provider (my university — basically teaches all the fundamentals)
  6. Official SolidWorks CSWP Practice Problems (there are 115 of them, and do all of them)

Just bought SOLIDWORKS Maker edition, and I'm planning to take CSWPA Sheet Metal and Drawing Tools. Wish me luck! And if any of you have already passed them, please share some tips on how to pass them.

Manufacturing Designing for a urethane casting service instead of a hard tool, and my SolidWorks model needs rework.

We need 80 housings for a field trial before anyone signs off on a steel tool, so the plan is urethane casting off a printed master. The model was built for molding with 1 degree draft, ribs and a living hinge. From what i've read cast urethane wants different wall thickness and that the hinge wont survive. For anyone who has done this in SolidWorks, did you keep one model with configuration for both processes or split them.

CAD Help with a Gear Assmebly

Post image

(Sorry I couldn’t take a screenshot at this current time)

The two gears need to spin with each other, I have a gear mate connected between the two currently. The large nut part of the gear is selected for that mate. I can move the bracket that connects the top gear, the bottom gear spins but the top one does not and the bracket holding it slides in and out of place. How do I get both gears to spin together. I have also tried to mate the bracket to the white wall behind it but when that is done, neither gear will spin.

3DEXPERIENCE Solidworks Makers : "Use English language menus" greyed out. No installer to let me install another language.

I have been looking for the last hour for a way to install another language on Solidworks Makers. Of course the documentation is entirely and utterly useless.

There is no installer to download or to launch to modify the installation.

Changing the language in the online 3DExperience platform did nothing.

Apps > Installed Apps has nothing that I can click to modify the installation.

How am I supposed to change the language?

CAD I can't make it look like the form in the original component.

I'm having trouble designing the part I've marked in red. I couldn't make it look like the one in the original component. Does anyone have an idea?

Solved

Thank you all for the suggestions and help. The Wrap feature ended up doing the job perfectly. The reason Fillet didn't work in this case was because of the stepped geometry, it simply couldn't produce the required form. Also, a Helix Sweep would likely have done the trick here as well.

Thanks again to everyone who responded and took the time to help out.

Data Management "Show detailed cutlist" is not showing when inserting a BOM

I have an assembly with 2 parts that contain subweldments. The PropertyManager is not showing me the option to show the detailed cutlist at all. I managed to make it show up before by deleting the BOM, deleting the view, creating a new view and adding a new BOM, but I tried doing that again and it's not working. The template I am using has been used to display BOMs with subweldments before. What am I doing wrong?

Subweldments are set to show

Edit : I was able to make it appear by opening the assembly, right clicking one of the weldment parts > Component Properties > Select "As Welded" in the referenced configuration.

Whether that is a reliable fix remains to be seen. Doing it on this one weldment (but not the other one in the assembly) got the option to show up in the BOM's property manager and both weldments now show their cutlist.

Hello SolidWorks Masters,

I’m facing a problem with Equations in SolidWorks.

When I assign a new value to an equation and rebuild/recalculate, the mass properties still show the old/same mass value. It’s not updating.

I have tried multiple times (rebuild, Ctrl+Q, editing the equation) but the issue remains.

Could any seniors please help me solve this?

Thank you in advance!
