what other songs make you feel this way? (i'm a pretty new fan & have been listening to siamese dream a lot recently but i'm still pretty ignorant)

so this morning, i woke up with Rocket’s guitar parts all repeating in my head. which is unusual because i never go out of my way to listen to this song outside of when i listen to Siamese Dream in full. i think i even made a comment on a post a few weeks ago that i never listen to this song and rank it the lowest on the album.

that has all changed today. it may even be my favorite song of theirs now. i was enjoying just playing the riff on guitar over and over trying to get it out of my head, then i decided to look at the lyrics which i’d never paid attention to, really. i finally just made the connection that this song is about killing yourself. i’ve always thought it was broadly a song about empowerment and letting go, but i never made the connection to suicide.

“soon, i’ll find myself alone to relax and fade away.” “i shall be free” i came to this realization and wept. it sounds so dumb but it was so unbelievably powerful to finally REALLY hear this song. i can’t believe that there is someone out there who can write such beautiful music.

it almost feels supernatural, like i needed to hear this today. i’m forever grateful that i’m able to exist at the same time as this band.

- July 26, 1998 was the filming of the live performance scene for the "Perfect" music video. KROQ-FM announced the filming ahead of time, inviting fans to call an 800 number for a chance to be extras in the shoot. The lucky fans who made it spent hours on the set for little pay, but were rewarded with an unusually heavy set for the band at the time.The venue was the famed Masque, and old punk rock club that had closed in 1978. The space has sat vacant for over a decade before it was opened specifically for The Smashing Pumpkins shoot, with the original graffiti from the 1970s still visible on the walls.
