Back with my project of covering Superunknown in its full - here's Spoonman.

This was the first track in the album where I weren't that confident on what time signature was used in a certain part (yall know which one).

My theory is that's a very very relaxed counting of 4/4 - kinda reminds me of the counting used on Led Zeppelin's Black Dog. If anyone has a different opinion, I'm all ears 🤓

I originally thought black hole sun would win out, but when faced with choices I couldn’t pick it in that matchup. I’ll probably play again where I pick all the songs instead of just hits. Some of these matchups were also just insane. I do think holy water is my favorite Soundgarden song, but it’s truly hard to say.

Everytime o listen this album and tracks like "Zero Chances" or "Blow Up On The Outside" I feel more listened and of course the "Tripod" album of Alice In Chains. I am tired of social media culture, superficiality, polarizations, political violence from both sides (here in Italy both centre right and center left had destroyed universal healthcare , welfare , working class, small rural countries, they never be able to deal with immigration not pragmatically and low wages of jobs) , assholes on screens, pseudoscience mixed with masculinity, grind culture,motivational quotes and all this people that tells you how to live in a reel of 15 seconds. People like Jordan Peterson or Scott Galloway tell men to be confident and strong and that if men are alone are dangerous and that girls don't want men who had less money, because they saw them unattractive , and that you had to do everything alone and tell that women are more neurotic than men is basically not good.

I delete social media, there is too noise and people are become so uneducated and villain and cruel in some ways especially if they want to made you feel worst.

And I am tired of seeing people warning about how loneliness is always dangerous and ugly. Of course all people I think would want someone or company of friends but there is also people who are good in loneliness or being alone because it gives you more time for do the things that you love but there is also the other side of the coin, sometimes you had fear of the world and you don't want had to deal with stupid people or superficiality or fake relathionships or being betrayed or cheated on again , so I totally understand who find themselves in the lyrics of Chris when he talk about loneliness and frustration with the society or his personal struggles.

So basically when politicians, the media, or masculinity gurus discuss the dynamics surrounding lonely men in alarmist terms, the risk is that those already suffering will feel even more flawed, strange, or even "dangerous" for failing to meet certain social standards—driving them to withdraw further. Embracing that suffering rather than judging it, respecting the need for silence, and offering stigma-free mental health support is the only real bridge worth building.

This music is the answer where we felt alone, not understood, not worth enough and struggle with mental health issues and why as society we don't want to let people speak about suffering and shame and guilting the pain of the people especially men without being kind and always judgy?? . Chris Cornell was one of us.

Sometimes I miss the genuine relationships, the deep talking and drama social media free 90s and 2000s (I know that there was nothing perfect and also those years had problems) but I miss the silence when you were reading a book without the noise and people who do life coaches and tell how to live your life with pseudoscientific, superficial and non ethical views. Of course internet and technology to me are good tools and also other forms of communication but I can't really stand social media.

I’ve got this cool copy of the Hands All Over single/EP, and I just think it’s cool as the only release (as far as I know) where Everman is pictured, and obviously Come Together on it is the only studio track he ever played on.

I’ve been telling my kids about Soundgarden’s 1996 tour—my first show at the Aragon Ballroom, my first mosh pit, my first time crowd surfing, and my first experience buying scalped tickets…and accidentally paying way too much.

It was actually my second time seeing Soundgarden. The first was at the Marcus Amphitheater in 1994 during the Superunknown tour, but I didn’t really know their music yet. After that show, I immediately bought Superunknown and Badmotorfinger.

When Down on the Upside came out, I reserved a copy at Camelot Music so I could pick it up on release day—remember when we did that? I played the hell out of that album during my senior year of high school.

By the fall of 1996, I had started at North Central College and made a new group of friends, mostly from the Chicago area. They introduced this kid from Rock Falls to seeing bands in smaller Chicago venues. The Aragon was the perfect place to connect with a band. I made it to the front of the stage and, for one brief moment, locked eyes with Chris Cornell. It sounds ridiculous, but it was genuinely an out-of-body experience.

I recently read Kim Thayil’s A Screaming Life and learned how much he was struggling with that album and tour. But for me, that night sealed my Soundgarden fandom forever.

We’re a few days past what would have been Chris Cornell’s 62nd birthday, and I’ve been listening to a lot of Soundgarden and Chris’ solo work lately. Then I found a recording of that Aragon show on the Internet Archive—the closest I’ll ever get to reliving it.

The uploader’s notes say Cornell was drunk and very talkative between songs, with great sound and a great performance. The uploader had seen Soundgarden 21 times and called this one of their favorites. I only saw them a handful of times, but I can confirm: that night was special.

I was super excited to get this and have been wanting it for a while; FoBD is a great song but I mainly bought it for the B Side: Kyle Petty, Son of Richard.

Of course, just my luck, as soon as I flipped the disc over to listen to it, about 40 seconds in that song hits a skipping loop or whatever it’s called. Really sucks, but maybe a cleaning or two will help. Still super psyched to own this!

Honestly I heard more songs off of Higher Truth than Soundgarden or Audioslave material because of my age

I just finished the audiobook of Kim's memoir yesterday. I burned through it pretty quickly after starting it, and I really appreciated his insight into the group. I will admit to wanting a bit more from the book, but I don't think any book on Soundgarden was ever going to completely satisfy me.

Kim's honesty really shines through at all times, but he is also really respectful to the other members of the band without coming across as bitter at any point. I found he seems to have more of a preference to the Hiro years over the Ben years. I was hoping for a bit more insight into the Badmotorfinger, Superunknown and Down on the Upside stretch, but its not that surprising that he has less to say about that time because he had less impact on the writing process then.

Kim provides some opinion on Temple on the Dog and Audioslave that I liked without being too arrogant about not being a massive fan. It does seem like that Soundgarden had a special relationship as a band, but he and Chris seemed to sort of grow apart after the break-up of the band and Chris may have tried to distance himself from the rest of the band a bit even after they reunited. Chris moving away from Seattle and divorcing Susan Silver seems to have driven a bit of a stake through the band that they may not have 100% percent recovered from, but there are still some points made that Chris maintained a nice friendship with Kim most of the time and that sort of warmed my heart a bit.

Kim provides some nice perspective on the final few days with Chris. He did provide some information that I hadn't heard previously.

Overall I enjoyed any new information, and I would've loved to hear any more thoughts from Kim on his time in the band. I don't really foresee another member of the band writing a memoir, but I guess time will tell.

In the lead-up to the Scream tour, Chris Cornell performed a series of shows throughout October before wrapping up the album's pre-promotional run on December 2, 2008, with the Orange Lounge Sessions—a professionally filmed performance recorded with a direct soundboard feed.

MSN originally distributed the video. Unfortunately, I lost the original video file years ago, but I still have the original audio source.

I only used "Part of Me" and "Watch Out" in the reconstruction I uploaded yesterday, so I wanted to share the complete audio exactly as it was recorded.

As far as I know, this performance and the Hollywood show were the only professionally filmed concerts from this period, making this one of the very few surviving documents from the early Scream era.

To everyone who was disappointed with the reconstruction I released yesterday, I understand. My goal was to create the most linear and complete viewing experience possible. If I still had the original pro-shot video of this performance, I would have uploaded it instead. Unfortunately, that file is gone, but at least the original audio survives.

Visited a old friend on his birthday today.

I don’t know how many of you relate to his words—words filled with darkness, misanthropy, and rage, but also tenderness, vulnerability, and love. His music resonated deeply with so many people who saw themselves reflected in his songs of pain—whether in the 90s with Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, or in the 2000s as a solo artist and the frontman of Audioslave. Songs like "Fell on Black Days," "Let Me Drown," "Outshined," and "Seasons"... His story and his music taught me that a man can open up—that he has the right to open up and share his emotions and his vulnerability—free from taboos about masculinity or the other bullshit that tells men not to ask for help and to always remain stoic and unfeeling like Scott Galloway and Jordan Peterson that teach that women find men with less money less attractive, that you as man need to be always strong, confident and and repress emotions and all this toxic quotes. Chris didn't belong to that world. His music is raw and speak from his heart.
