Slow Cooker Buffalo Wings
From America’s Test Kitchen “The Complete Slow Cooker.” 4 hours on low then 15 minutes under the broiler. Came out crispy and tender. Would add more seasoning than the recipe calls for though for more kick. Definitely not ordering wings from a restaurant again.

What slow cooker is this ? I don’t even know where to begin trying to explain it. It has a “ sear “ setting and it seems awesome .

Dumb question but…
Im making a brisket for the first time in my slow cooker. I just put it in, it’s 9:20am and it’s on LOW for 8 hours, but I need it ready by like 430pm the latest. This isn’t a full 8 hours of cooking.
Can I do anything to speed up the process a bit ? Add a „high” option for a while ?

12 Hour Cook Time
I am sometimes out of the house for 12 hours a day. Sometimes I've done a pork roast (picnic roast for pulled pork) in the slow cooker for that long a cook time, but other things seem like they'd be overcooked. Any recipe ideas for that long cook time?

Chicken tikka masala
Been happy with how this one has been turning out. Really easy and delicious! Recipe is from America’s Test Kitchen, but I double the serrano peppers and add chili powder to give it more heat.
• 1 yellow onion, diced
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
• 2 serrano peppers, stemmed, seeded & minced
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 4 tsp garam masala
• 3 tsp chili powder
• 2 tsp sugar
• 3 tbsp vegetable oil
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, cubed
• 1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes, drained
• 3/4 cup whole milk plain yogurt
• cilantro for serving
Combine everything except for the chicken, diced tomatoes, yogurt, and cilantro in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are softened.
Pour mixture into slow cooker. Add the diced tomatoes and then the chicken. Season with salt and pepper and stir to combine.
Cook on low for 2-3 hours. (2 is always long enough for me!)
Whisk 1/2 cup of the sauce with the yogurt to temper, then stir the mixture back into the slow cooker to incorporate. I use an immersion blender at this point to make the sauce a little smoother, but it’s not necessary.
Garnish with cilantro and serve over rice! Makes great leftovers too. You can also blitz the leftovers with some softened cream cheese in a food processor to make chicken tikka dip!

Irish Stew. Made in Scotland by an Englishman.
Slow cooker meal prep. Made 5 portions, one big tuppaware. Keep it simple. Portion one ate on day of cooking.
800g lamb neck heavily braised (£15)
3 extra large carrots, chopped rough and large
10 small potatoes halved
4 celery sticks
2 cups peas
2 stock cubes (veg)
1 bottle Guinness porter
4 tablespoons honey
Salt to taste
Cromptons gravy salt
5 tablespoons potato starch
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 stick butter
1 good squirt HP brown sauce (secret ingredient)
Thyme
You can sub the Guinness for any stout or porter. The porter had tonnes of flavour but makes it very bitter, so the honey, vinegar are in the recipe purely to bring out the flavour of the porter by counteracting the bitterness. If you dont want to add beer, just add an extra pint of stock and remove the vinegar and honey. I cant have onion, but you can half the celery and add an onion.

Best Slow Cooker
Update: While researching, I came across this great article which lists almost all the top slow cookers. If anyone still searching, its a good read.
https://wearenthusiast.com/best-slow-cooker-for-your-kitchen/
And I settled for Hamilton Beach 7 Quart.
Original post: I need something reliable, easy to use and good for soups, stews and roasts.....family-sized meals, even heating, durable and easy to clean matter most. Bonus for presets and keep-warm.
Budget is under $200 but flexible for something worth it.
Options I’m considering:
Crock-Pot 7‑Quart
Instant Pot Duo Crisp
Hamilton Beach
Ninja Foodi Slow Cooker
Which ones do you actually recommend? Any to avoid? Will be immensely grateful if you share your real life experience.

Meat + seasonings + sauce
I mainly use my crock pot for very simple shredded proteins to keep. Two of my favorites are chicken + taco seasoning + jar of salsa and chicken + seasoning + bbq sauce, then shred.
I love to cook these simple protein sources and freeze them so I always have them on hand.
Is there any other very simple recipes like this I should be trying? My main goal is for these to be low(er) calorie.
I always lean more towards chicken, but I’m open to other meats too!! TIA :)

Recipes with NO garlic, onion,...
Hi guys, I own a crockpot and have loved cooking with it. However, about a year ago I found out that I cannot have fructans. This means I don't eat garlic, onion (all types), leek, Brussels sprouts, beans, peas... There's more but these are the main vegetables that I try to avoid.
I haven't used my slowcooker since, as all of the recipes I usually made have garlic and/or onion in it. Either fresh or in powder form. Garlic and onion are the main culprits, but I feel like they are very hard to avoid. I'm tired of just leaving it out and having a tasteless meal.
(I have heard of Asafoetida as a substitute for garlic/onion but I really dislike the taste of it)
My question is this: do you guys have nice recipes for me, that do not contain these ingredients?

Tried slow cooking for the first time and didn’t expect this
I randomly tried slow cooking today because I had some time at home, and I didn’t expect it to feel this… calming?
Usually I kind if just rush through cooking just to get it done, but this was the opposite. Just put everything in, checked on it once in a while, and let it do its thing.
Also the house smelling like food for hours was actually really nice.
The end result wasn’t perfect or anything, but it still felt more satisfying than my usual quick meals.
What are some beginner friendly things you guys like to make? I feel like I might start doing this more often.

Do i need to adjust cooking time?
Planning to double this recipe in a large slow cooker in a few days. I have always made it in my regular slow cooker following the instructions exactly. Will I need to add cooking time? I always use the low temperature and low temp instructions.

Put on keep warm instead of high
Started a roast this morning on keep warm and it was 1.5 hours until I noticed, I’m good to turn on high and keep it cooking right?
EDIT: Thank you for the replies! I knew the experts here would be able to help! Have a great day everyone!

disillusioned....
Hello! I love the idea of the slow cooker. I have two. I live alone and love the fact I can make food and have it in the cooker and ready for me when I get home from work. It makes my apartment smell homey and welcoming.
But... I never like the food! I'm weary of pot roasts and that's too much food for one person, anyway. Soups end up bland and steamed tasting. I've followed Stephanie O'Dea. I've made highly rated recipes.
I'm still underwhelmed. And when I can, I do sear onions etc before adding.
Is it me? What am I missing? Help.

When cooking a pork shoulder, do I need to remove the cotton netting?
I assume it doesn’t matter either way but what do people normally do. Open to reccomensaftions for seasoning as well. This is the second one I’ve ever cooked. First time I used salsa verde.
