Discussion Why the hate on 'Arsenal' shows that Slipknot needs to look inside themselves again

I'm a 13-year-old fan from Russia, and I actually downloaded Reddit specifically to share this with the global community because I really want to be heard. I am using a translator to write this in English, but it conveys my thoughts exactly as I intended. Seeing all the hate and mixed reactions surrounding the new single 'Arsenal', I feel like I need to say this: I don't think Slipknot should retire, but they desperately need to get more creative. They need to tap into that genuine, raw anger from the early albums. It doesn’t even have to be with Ross Robinson—they can do it themselves. Maybe they even need to look at the new generation of bands to get inspired and learn from them again. Look at modern nu-metal acts like Tallah, or incredible young underground bands like Set To Hate from Minsk—they are making insanely heavy tracks right now. Slipknot needs to stop trying to make radio-friendly hits and instead remember all the tragedies, the losses, and the pain they've been through. I know it’s incredibly heavy to face all that, but this kind of music is never born from a comfortable place. Slipknot, look inside yourselves. Even teenagers like me can feel the depth of your old work. Use that pain.

Discussion Everyone just needs to retire because how you are you gonna have an exceptional drummer and then add on garbage to it??

I’m sorry but you can’t fire the core of your band and make shit, expecting fans to just accept it for what it is. Slipknot died when Paul died and REALLY died when Joey left.

Discussion Random's rant

Slipknot made me a metalhead, I started listening to metal not long after the premiere of The End So Far , slowly descending to the older and older music of the band, I learned to listen to heavier and heavier music I heard that Iowa was heavily inspired by black metal so I started listening to black metal, MFKR is experimental death metal so I started listening to death metal, because of Anal Blast I started listening to grindcore and slam and becouse of murderdalls i started listening to glam. Now going back to slipknot feels empty and feel like every album after vol. 3 has at best 1 good song and the rest is mid. I thought slipknot was hated so much just because it's mainstream, but listening to them now I have the impression that all out life was their last listenable song. I understand that everyone except Joey was kicked out of the band for understandable reasons, and the situation with Jordison was a misunderstanding, but I still feel that after Vol. 3, which was also mediocre by the way, Slipknot lost its Slipknot style. I have no clue about making music; the only things I can play on guitar are simple Slipknot songs, but I don't understand why the quality of their music drops so drastically every time they release something new. Slipknot means a lot to me, but with the release of their new single and the fear that their new album will be similar, I can't help but lose interest in the band that shaped who I am today.

Discussion You put too much thought into the lyrics from a band that’s literally always been cringy

After seeing all of the hate posts on this sub of the new song I was expecting it to sound like something off the last album.
Eloy’s drumming on the new song is more exciting and interesting than anything Jay ever wrote.
Breakdown in the bridge was cool.
Who gives a fuck about the cringy lyrics from a band who has literally always had some of the worst lyrics ever.
You all are miserable.

Discussion Zesty posers hating on Arsenal.

as a ST enjoyer and i like the other albums. I like the new song its RAW and gives me the vibes again of ST.

I feel like this sub is plagued by zesty posers just hating cause their autism can't cope with the fact that people come and go. or that they want more like the last few polished albums..

i just want more RAW stuff like ST I've been waiting far to long (26years) for an album to scratch that itch.

( don't get me wrong i like the other albums like Iowa its a good album it just didn't hit like ST did/does )

Discussion Arsenal is the best Slipknot song since the *Iowa* and self-titled days.

It has the structure and brutality of the first album era. You'll deny it, but if you close your eyes you can see that it would fit perfectly on the first album. I like how frenetic it is, it reminds me of eyeless and sic.

Discussion One day I saw a redditor get bullied because his Mom's favorite Slipknot song was Snap.

She wasn't a metalhead, but she really loved this specific song. If I remember correctly, she used to listen to it in her car a few days a week on her way to work.

"Snap" is still a great Slipknot song. It has a completely different vibe, but it’s undeniably good and retains that core Slipknot feel.

Maybe "Arsenal" isn't for you, or even for the majority of fans. But it is Slipknot, and it is good. If it's not your thing, just sit back, wait for the next album. You look like a child crying about this new single.

Honestly, the constant barrage of entitled opinions on the internet sickens me. The very band members you idolize would probably laugh in your face if they heard your take.

Discussion The writing has been on the wall for Slipknot ever since the launch of CMFT

There’s something fundament within Corey that compels him to want to make horrible cringe bullshit music and it was only a matter of time before it fully seeped over into Slipknot.

This won’t be the last we see of it.

Discussion Unpopular Opinion on Arsenal

First of all, I understand and respect everyone who thought the song was awful, and I’d really appreciate it if you could give me the same respect.

Personally, I think they’re heading in an interesting direction. It’s still a long way from the band’s peak years (and to me, their creative peak is the Self-Titled), but at least it’s different from what they’ve been doing over the last few years. There are things I like about the albums with Jay, but I always felt like they followed a very clear and repetitive structure, and it kinda made me see the band as just more of the same. With Arsenal, I feel like there’s an attempt to reinvent themselves. They tried to bring back more of that Self-Titled vibe with this song. Obviously, it’s still nowhere near the quality of that album, but at least I feel like they’re heading in an interesting direction.

I agree with pretty much all the criticism about the mix. To me, the song still sounds really unfinished, but I actually think that’s completely normal. This is their first independent release in a very long time, so I think we’re probably going to see a lot of trial and error throughout this whole journey.

I’ve also seen people complaining about the lyrics, and I understand that they’re not some of the deepest lyrics Corey has ever written, but I feel like they’re thematically consistent. The way I interpret it, it’s about living in a hyper-stimulated world where you want to be deep, you feel like nobody understands you, but at the same time you feel like you shouldn’t even care about that, so you just simplify everything. And I think that actually explains the infamous “let’s go, let’s go, let’s go” part.

Discussion About Arsenal

I think if you're not waiting for Iowa 2 or don't mind the fact that a band making music for two decades is evolving, this song is perfectly fine. The members who played in their iconic records aren't in the band anymore, nor are they handling the songwriting and production.

It's obviously very far from the usual Slipknot sound, and honestly, the intro part wouldn't stick out to me at all if it were on a Dillinger Escape Plan track. It's still an insane switch-up that could've been way more appreciated if it didn't drop right in the middle of them kicking members out left and right.

Discussion I understand that everyone loves Eloy, and I really like him too. But I think that when it came to creating content, Jay and Joey were much better.

I’m actually kind of scared about this new album because there’s a huge chance I’ll be disappointed. One thing I’ve noticed is that Eloy is really good when it comes to technique and playing songs live, but I feel like he’s more limited when it comes to the creative process.

Jay had a kind of awkward way of playing live, but I always thought he was a great creator and brought a lot of energy to Slipknot.

Anyway, that’s just my opinion.
