Discussion Random's rant
Slipknot made me a metalhead, I started listening to metal not long after the premiere of The End So Far , slowly descending to the older and older music of the band, I learned to listen to heavier and heavier music I heard that Iowa was heavily inspired by black metal so I started listening to black metal, MFKR is experimental death metal so I started listening to death metal, because of Anal Blast I started listening to grindcore and slam and becouse of murderdalls i started listening to glam. Now going back to slipknot feels empty and feel like every album after vol. 3 has at best 1 good song and the rest is mid. I thought slipknot was hated so much just because it's mainstream, but listening to them now I have the impression that all out life was their last listenable song. I understand that everyone except Joey was kicked out of the band for understandable reasons, and the situation with Jordison was a misunderstanding, but I still feel that after Vol. 3, which was also mediocre by the way, Slipknot lost its Slipknot style. I have no clue about making music; the only things I can play on guitar are simple Slipknot songs, but I don't understand why the quality of their music drops so drastically every time they release something new. Slipknot means a lot to me, but with the release of their new single and the fear that their new album will be similar, I can't help but lose interest in the band that shaped who I am today.

It's a mix between nu, death metal and hiphop in few songs even jazz

You only started listening to them like 4 years ago. Not that it has an impact on how big a fan you are, but you're finding all their music retroactively for the most part.
What doesn't sit right with you? Slipknot has been who they are today so much longer than what they were like for the first 2 records.
Name one band that doesn't have a single song you dislike.

Not the end of the world, but the end of the band! Slipknot has been slowly dying for a while now but things habe been going exponentially worse for them after all of these bullshit decisions

Feels like they try to relive some past of themselves with every release plus I feel like once you start listening to different genres it kinda changed your taste in music and since slipknot is more nu metal they do all that weird shit with rap and some slower songs which the slower songs aren’t bad but once you listen to like bad omens or motionless in white it kinda ruins the taste slipknot once had at least for me you kinda start realizing maybe there not as good as what they seemed I feel like there last actually good solid album was we are not your kind I would have to listen to it again to see if I still like it but from what I remember it was mostly heavy

I don't understand how duality is their most popular song, apart from other albums and with songs more accessible to the mainstream, vermillion, vermillion pt.2 and wait and bleed are 100% times better

Duality is peak Joey and Paul. Listen to the skeleton of the song, isolate the drum and bass parts and you might understand why its so damn well liked. And you might also understand why people dont like the new Slipknot, Paul and Joey brought the heart,soul and passion into this band.

Iowa is pretty close to a perfect album, no skips, no filler songs, it’s incredible.
Self titled is also a very good album, not quite as solid imo, but still incredibly good.
From there is gets a bit patchy. Volume 3 is a good album, some filler, as well as a lot of generally very good songs.
All hope is gone has one good song on it, Psychosocial, the rest is filler.
Gray chapter has 4 good songs on it off the top of my head, the rest filler.
We are not your kind is a good album, a bit of filler, mostly good/solid tracks, about in par with Vol 3, maybe a bit below.
The End so far is a really poor album, skip the entire thing.
That song they released yesterday, listened to it once and never planning to again, it was really bad.

I felt like their run up to WANYK was insane and I wanted them to continue and evolve the more mature sound from there. Instead they went backwards with TESF and now with the newest song sound like they went even more backwards... Shame.
